Our 2002 is still keeping up strong, so today's has to be a dream machine. It has also stayed at the top compared to competition since I can remember. I am a teen and can't wait to have kids so I can own one myself!
My mom's 2005 Odyssey just turned over 430,000 miles. She puts no less than 150 miles on the Honda every day. Even with all of the abuse that van endures on a regular basis, it just keeps going and going. Although I'm a devoted Volkswagen driver, I can't trash Honda because I know they make some of the most reliable vehicles on the road.
Steve - Good idea to include your Wife and Daughter as well to give the "real user" experience. You brought your already above-par reviews to a new level. Your daughter speaks really well and her input was super valuable. What a fun and informative review! Thanks.
Steve, that dual-screen infotainment that Honda has in this Odyssey and Accord as well as the Acura MDX seem to drive auto reviewers nuts. I test drove an Accord EX and I didn't have that problem. Maybe I didn't spend enough time with it...
TestDriveNow.com featuring Drive Time with Steve Hammes Once, you think about it, it does. You don't hear about complaints about Hyundai/Kia's infotainment systems. However, but it seems like the auto reviwers prefer Chrysler's uConnect and GM's versions aka Chevy's MyLink and Buick & GMC's Intellilink as the better infotainment system. The maddening systems that auto critics pan include Honda's (like seen here), MyFordTouch, and Cadillac's CUE. (Then again, Consumer Reports pan BMW's iDrive).
No Blue Ray DVD player in the Honda Odyssey-- Chrysler has it for the Town & Country. (A little tidbit for you minivan shoppers). Despite that, still, the Odyssey is class leading and by far and away, the best minivan on the market.
There two things that a oddessey doesn't have manual shifting mode and some of there plastics look cheap. I'll take the sienna over this. It has more hours power and awd drive and nicer looking over the oddessey. Honda if your reading this get your asses right you need a better honda, i know you can! The 3rd generation was my oddessey:-(
Steve, I read an awful disappointment and frustration among odyssey owners due to VCM,transmission issues - there's even lawsuit settlement but it's not really a remedy. Every single auto journalist praises Odyssey but it's because they spend a short amount of time only - wait until you own one that consumer a quart of oil every 3-5k miles!, you will be pissed like my friends.
That's the tough part of my job. I get a car for a week. I can relay JD Powers survey results but other than that how do I comment on items like dependability? Unless something happens to the car I'm driving...and it sometimes does and I report it...it's nearly impossible to report on issues like this.
