my 2010 mkt uses 5.5 quarts damn oil only comes in 5 gal jugs and the extra quart is over 5.00! Screw it, I put 1/2 quart of 10w30 oil I had to fill it. Shoot with 22 for a jug, 6 for the filter and 6 for the extra quart thats frickin THIRTY FOUR BUCKS to change your own oil! Screw that, I'll go to Lincoln next time they are only 37 bucks usually not worth it at 70 years of age
I have this same car, and really appreciate your videos of working on it! I like your thoroughness and cleanliness. ( ie: wiping down engine parts during and after job) Please post more whenever you do other kinds of work on this car, so we can watch and learn. Thanks
Greg. I'm considering buying a 2014 but after watching video's of the super expensive water pump change I'm having second thoughts. Have you had to deal with that yet?
No, I've not had any problems with the water pump. To be honest, people got me paranoid for a while and so weekly I would go out and check the oil dipstick to see if there was any early sign of water in the oil. (This would be an early warning sign that the water pumps being the leak) (though too, I understand that it was designed to leak outside the engine as a telltale warning ahead of that) either way I've had no problems. I have read of one or two but I'm guessing maybe they were neglected engines by the owners) so keep up with the oil changes -which I do myself- and I don't think you'll have any problems. Mechanics say that Ford designed the engine this way because the water pumps were super dependable and would last the life of the engine.. I now don't worry about the issue at all. I'm also still amazed at my freeway gas mileage which is 29 MPG. This is what I averaged on my Christmas trips all around the state of California this year. Good luck!
10:30 i dont fully understand this... Oil cap says 5w-20 as you show in the video. BUT if you check owners manual it says 5w-30... What should I use???
Hi Massey, great car. I am looking at a nice used MKS just like yours since they are a great value for a low mileage used car. Do you know anything about the internal timing chain driven water pump on these engines? Consumer reports rates the engine and cooling as excellent, but you will see multiple pump failures on the web which could kill the engine by letting coolant mix with oil. Mactfordedge did a few videos on this issue. I have a 2014 Edge Sport with the 3.7 and plan to change the orange coolant once a year (just radiator drain and fill not full flush) and keep Mobile 1 changes at 5k. I also pop the hood and view the coolant level often and always watch for any drips on the ground. If you have any knowledge about this, please share
Jim Svo the pump itself isn’t expensive, just takes a lot of time to change, the front cover has to come off and pretty much all the timing components, I’ll be making a video soon about how I’m keeping an eye on the pump. Basically just monitor your coolant levels, oil levels and color of the oil. I’ve started sending oil samples to Blackstone labs for oil analysis for the risk of the pump letting loose
