I got this recently and I think the one I have is the with 2GB dedicated graphics, not that I do video rendering but I run VMs and I must confess, they run smoothly compared to my more recent dell XPS 13 with similar configuration. my only problem is the weight. It's not mobile aha!

The ones with dedicated graphics cards are the true value for money machines.. weight wise these machines are not for the faint, carrying the laptop around can easily be taken as gym work out 😁

I don’t think those are FireWire ports they are mini display port / thunderbolt 2 which are pretty useful still because you can get Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapters and plug in modern stuff. As far as fire wire goes, it was abandoned not long after it was released because of better consumer connectivity options like Thunderbolt and usb c that can carry more data and power. It was good at the time but didn’t last long. You rarely see them anymore at all Edit: I’d also like to add that if you can find this MacBook Pro with 16 gigs of ram and an ssd and a decent processor for around 150 - 200 it is very much worth it. You can also update these to the latest os using legacy core patcher and continue the longevity

Honestly I haven't tried canalbox internet. But if they don't have any throttling or limits to your bandwidth then they should be good. Remember for online gaming in order to get the best experience you need to have atleast 20mbps and above

@@techselectug I did some research and alot of people were saying that there interent is so bad they bought premeuim for 50mbps and it cant even reach 20mbps and for most of the time there data doesnt even work so I think ill get Xstream wifi

Yes it is. Just make sure that all the software that you need to aid you has a Mac version or equivalent.. even if it doesn't there is the option of dual booting Mac and Windows on that machine.

Absolutely. Im studying CS and I have MBP 15 2014. Its rock solid for development. Im currently doing C# Console Apps, Python and some MySQL learning. I also have Windows 10 dual booted because of Windows Form Apps which I cant do on Mac OS. No problems so far

They don't make them like this any more. My wife has a new M2 Air and it's already showing defects due to the endless pursuit of "thin & light". I love this laptop but I have the i5/16GB/256GB version and it's starting to lag badly on complex web sites. I'll have to replace it before too long.

Funny thing is the lag is intentional. Apple makes the older machines slow so that you are forced to upgrade. But again of you are comparing it's speed to that of the M2 then yup the 2015 will feel like a dinosaur. But a well built dinosaur.

i just bought a 2014 mbp i7 we will see how it does, my husband has an 2012 mbp i had to update memory, ssd, and monitor, the monitor started having lines in it, so i decided to replace it. and now he loves it again, saved us over 1000 dollars for another one he wanted. I told him lets update your old one and see how you like it. so i did and now he is happy again. lol

I have one of these (on it right now) as part of my Macbook "collection". I use OCLP to run Sonoma 14.5 and I couldn't be happier. My M1 Macbook Air blows it away, performance-wise, but it's STILL a great computer in 2024. Nuff said.

Are there any issues with Apple going after people's accounts for using OCLP? I don't mind being on the old OSX as long as there are no security issues, but how does Sonoma run on it? I still have my 2014 15" i7/16gb ram/512gb ssd/Nvidia gpu + Iris Pro, and it does ok for what I need, though I mostly use my phone/ipad or desktop for personal and have a work issued laptop. The battery still gives me a few hours of web browsing, but will die within a day or so even just in standby mode. I have an opportunity to get a 2019 16" i9 for

Yes it can still be used to edit.. 1080p video will work well. 4k will just be punishing the poor machine. Just don't expect short export times though. The exporting times are quite long.
