Loving the redesign ! Can't wait to get mine in :) the new driving assist package is perfect for the people like me who have a bit of difficulty parking larger cars such as this, even with the cameras in the previous model. Overall I love the new redesign inside and out!
major differences is the engine 10-some13s used a m272 engine while newer ones use m276 engine....reliability wise 272 has been in the market since 2004ish so all the bugs have been fixed but it is a 90 degree engine so its not as balanced as the newer 276s those are 60 degree engines but carbon build up will be an issue with the 276s because of the injection older 272s used mixed injection. if you start experiencing rough idle at start up and normal idle on a 276 get it carbon cleaned before you start getting misfires and cel. 272 has its issues as well pre 2010 the balancer isssue but has been fixed on 10-13 models so you dont have to worry and the intake flaps do degrade and there is an updated metal version you can buy. so you decide loll almost 10 years improved engine 272 or a new barely tested 3 years engine 276.
I prefer the 2013 by a wide margin. Not that it really matters, since I can afford neither. The '13 is elegant, and the '14 looks like a tuner car. I think M-B should consider offering the sport suspension/AMG wheels/sport steering wheel separately from the sport styling package. At least lose the atrocious sport grille with giant star.
This was more like a "transition model" to the new one than just a regular facelift. The difference is so dramatic, especially from the front. I can't tell the new one and the 2014-2016 models apart from the front.
In my opinion 2013 body shape is far better, looks nicer, more classic, balanced and better shaped , but 2014 will be more tech improved, but i will always go for 2013 any time any day
I totally agree with you! Also, I hate when he says the "old E-Class" and the "outgoing model". Its not an outgoing model, its just a mid-model face lift!
That new bumper is very very sleek, I DO like it. I also like how they took out the "oldman's" grill on the sedan and replaced it with the grill from the coupe with the large MB logo in the center. As an owner of a 2013 E550 coupe, I have to say I like the older one more.
The older one is more classy more elegant, while the new one is sportier. Shifting stick and gauges are better in the 2013 as well, all in all, I'll take the 2013!
Looking at both 2013 and 2014, I prefer the 2013. The front end on the 2014 look awkward in comparison, and my 2004 looks more appealing to me than the 2014. I guess this is something that will grown on me as time goes on, but my preference will be the out going model, maybe in a few years they will clean up the design of the 2014 a bit, we shall see if it will look a little less awkward then.
Definitely the 2013 series. It has way more sovereignty ! Hate the new MB Design. If I buy a Mercedes-Benz for around 60k EUR I don't want an enlarged C-Class
i like the 2013 so much more the 2014 which looks older already. i like the front grille on the new one everything else is better on 2013. older car looks sportier, agile.
In Europe you can order the -14 with the classic grill with the hood ornament, it is called "Elegance", the racy sportsedan grille available in the US is called "Avantgarde" in Europe. I think the -14 singel headlights instead of four on the -13, make the -14 front look narrower, the -13 is more elegant and typical Mercedes, the racy Avantgarde grille is for attracting younger buyers I think.
I agree with everything you have said above, however, you can still get the three pointed star on the bonnet on the Elegance/luxury models, its only the Avantgarde/sporty models that have this grill set up. I do agree with what you say though, the older model is much maturer.
When I saw the new one in person it really changed my mind. It looks really good to me, but it doesn't seem to fit the E Class name right. Like it seems like a awesome style for another mercedes but not for the E class. Personally I love the styling of the 2013 since thats what my parents both own.
I agree with all of you :) However, the 2014 offers the traditional grill & head ornament for those that love it and I do but the new sport front is spot on attractive for that blend of luxury and sport that I am looking for.
Front end of 2013 is better, but I'd think they should keep the traditional 'luxury' grille on the standard cars and the 'sport' grille on the E63 AMG (or by option). However, the side profile of the 2014 feels cleaner than the 2013 (the flared rear arch on 2013 makes it look fatter than it really is). Rear looks roughly the same. I like the 'ring' like LED designs on 2014 though.
Ngl I prefer the front of the 2013 model. 2014 too aggressive and sporty, resembling C-class. I used to adore the Mercedes Benz emblem sticking out of the bonnet
Frankly, I would rather have MB keeping the old tail light arrangement of having the reverse light in the middle, surrounded by the red taillight. I like the new design, just not the new arrangement. It makes them look like the XV40 Toyota Camrys with the Asian-spec tailights (and a plethora of other Japanese cars). It makes them undistinguished, sadly. Apart from that, it's a great-looking car! MB's new design language has grown up a bit and taken a more organic shape now, very nice.
Man I miss the days of the W124's. Those were the days when Mercedes built some high quality cars. Even comparing the interiors from that era to now, there really is no comparison. Don't get me wrong the E350 is a nice car.
You're better off with the older model. There have been big problems reported by owners with excess carbon build up on the intake valves of the new V6 DI motors. Not to mention the DI motor clatters quite a bit due to noisy injectors and longevity is unknown. The M272 motor is far more proven and reliable even though it might be a bit more thirsty.
Thats what I thought of the older model of the mercedes e class (Only the rear reminded me of the honda accord) but the new 2014 mercedes doesn't really look like a honda accord anymore since the LED lightings.
It is amazing. I had to get past the changes, but this car is great. I think people are just resistant to budge on change. I was feeling the same. I thought, how could they get rid of the double headlamps??? lol
If I got a luxury E-Class, I'd need a stalk emblem star. However, the in-grille one suits sport models. I hate driving my Merc when the star got broken, it's good to have it back.
Me too! I think my 2008 has a better roomier stand and nicely boxy, definitely more distinguishing than these models. The rounder look looks so common to other.
for me 2010-2013 e350 looks much better than 2014-2016 e350. if you guys go to dealer and see it yourself youll be amzed how beautiful 2010-13 e350 is. the only thing i did not like is the back of it. 2014 is nice too and they added 45 more hp on it. but i rather pick the 2010-13 style and add more power on it and it would be an awesome sporty sedan.
The new 350's sound like 4 cylinders in these 2014's. We had an '08 E350 and everything was super smooth. The transmission in our 2014 E350 seems super clunky, It revs super high in first followed a rough shift into second, in eco mode at least. haven't used sport yet.
Mercedes seems to be going from handsome to pretty with their newer models. I love the sharp look of the 2013 headlights and grille. The 2014 is too "pretty"
I prefer the front of the 2013. Looks more mature and understated. The 2014 front looks juvenile. I prefer the hood ornament. Other than the front I prefer the rear and interior of the 2014.
(Currently drive a honda accord EX-L)..I was also looking into buying this car, but i noticed the leg space in the back and front isn't a lot.. that is a biggie for me. Guess I gotta keep this as a 2nd option for now.. btw, i love the 2013 look.. more luxury look to it. even the E350 doesn't come close to the 2013 model.
Thanks for commenting, Djordjeblrs, and for the video suggestion. We've got quite a few videos in the pipeline but we'll definitely try to make one comparing the Elegance version of the 2014 vs. 2013.
