( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is small AWD crossover that competes with new cars like the Mazda CX-5. With just 8.5 inches of ground clearance the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport isn't engineered to go steep and deep into the snowy Colorado wilderness. In another accurate, fun and informative TFLcar video we get stuck yet again in the Colorado Rocky Mountains testing the newest crossover from Mitsubishi.

I have a BASE MODEL 2013 outlander sport, with the all wheel drive option. I got stuck in the middle of a blizzard on Loveland Pass IN FREKIN COLORADO, AT ELEVATION (~11,000 FEET), in the middle of the night, in the middle of winter. Guess who made it out WITHOUT A SINGLE ISSUE. This guy and his OUTLANDER SPORT--ALL STOCK WITH NON SNOW TIRES. Put her in All Wheel Lock, and let the car do the rest. That night made me a believer in this affordable but rugged CUV. Also, paid 23,000 including taxes and fee's.

lol trying a car in the snow with all season tires... those guys just hate Mitsubishi and this review is biased, they should be ashamed of doing such subjective reviews.

It’s not biased at all...I’ve had 2 AWD outlander sports since 2013 and they’re terrible in rain and snow. They’re too light and slide all over the place, I’ve shelled out over $900 for the “best” tires that still didn’t make much of a difference. I love this car because it’s awesome on gas mileage and I drive a far distance for work, but it SUCKS in any weather condition other than dry/normal that I’ve experienced in northeast Ohio.

@@bethaneyalbright6805 I recently bought a 2015 GT with 60k miles and recently rained in town with massive downpours over three days with floodind everywhere and this Sport drove through heavy rain and handled as if the roads were dry. Of course, you have to have it set to 4wd auto.

@@bethaneyalbright6805 Can't be that bad, you had 2. Mine is a bulldozer in the snow with all weather tires, not winter. Perhaps your 'best' tires ain't so best.

I have an Outlander Sport and it is a great vehicle! It cost me over $3000 less than comparable vehicles. It has outstanding features - heated seats, heated mirrors, smart key start, kick-ass paddle shifters, 18" alloy rims and plenty of power. Drove all the way across Illinois last January - when interstate was covered with 2 - 3 inches of ice and the four wheel drive system and traction control worked great. Drove it in 10 inches of snow last winter and yes it got stuck twice - but got out after clearing some snow away from tires - but then I only have "All Weather" tires on it. I highly recommend this vehicle - this is the best vehicle I ever owned! Really fun to drive!

+Jerry Tremmel Stuck in 10 inches of snow? I want a vehicle that can handle 15+ inches of snow. I think A Subaru would be better in deep snow and on ice but the Mitsubishi is a great value. The Hyundai of japan.

Mitsubishi 4wd is legit. We just had a sh*t ton of snow in the North East and my 2014 Outlander handled it like a champ. Too much fun watching rwd and 2wd cars in front of me struggle to climb up a slight incline while my Outlander playfully drives up and down unplowed roads no problem.

Below is a link to a snow/mud test of a group of SUVs. From the tested cars the Kia Sportage, VW Touareg, Honda CRV, Mitsubishi Outlander (with the same system as shown here), Volvo XC 60 are also available in the US. totalcar.hu/tesztek/2013/02/14/nagy_suv_terepteszt/ You may translate the written test to English and watch the video afterwards. There are two attempts with each car. The first one with full auto mode and the second with all available tweaks (locking the differential, traction control off, elevated suspension etc). All cars equipped with the manufacturer suggested winter tires. Hope you find it informative.

TMuuga Hahaha. I have studied haldex awd systems and alternatives. I have also seen demonstrations such as real world and roller tests right before my eyes. Symmetrical AWD isn't the best because Subaru claims it is. I have a friend who has a 2013 Forester and his SUV couldn't do a twist ditch situation. Meanwhile our old 2010 Outlander GT could and 2014 Tiguan could.

This isn't an Outlander. There are only a few countries where it's called the Outlander Sport. Most places it's just known as an RVR or ASX. Not sure why Mitsubishi felt the need to associate it with the Outlander here in America.

Spec out a Honda or Toyota and see what they cost? Mitsubishi is a high value vehicle. Hard plastics and aged style dashboards for sure. Mine lasted 10 years and was still fine when I sold it. Subaru's blow head gasket like $200 hookers. Nathan gets what these vehicles are all about. Roman likes high end rides and that's OK. Really enjoy TFL for being different.

I like the way this thing looks inside and out, but it really needs a better engine. Both the Rav4 and CRV have close to 40hp more than this for around the same price. Even a base Escape makes more power than this. Then again, the Crosstrek is on par with the Mitsu and it seems to sell fine so what do I know.
@AWCAWD
@AWCAWD 10 лет назад
CRV, CX-5 (2.0L), XV Crosstrek were all tested (by TFLCAR 0-60 tests). None of them (with AT) was faster than the Outlander Sport. Watch those reviews here in this channel. The HP/weight ratio counts and not the HP itself. Also, the CRV will only provide the 185HP at 7000 rpm. I doubt that the average driver ever goes up that high. In Canada with comparable packages those cost $5K more than the OS.

@AWCAWD
@AWCAWD 10 лет назад
I still own a 2012 model (made in Japan) and I do not know where you live, I am from Montreal, Canada. The average annual snowfall here is 82.5 inch (210 cm, nearly as much as Shaquille O'Neil's height) and after the second winter with the car I can state that it is more than adequate in the snow (of coarse with a proper snow tires). I drive up to Mt. Royal here (that is not a snow bank for sure) often before the snow plower passes by and I only have wheel spin if I really want it. BTW my driveway is also inclined but never had a problem using it in the winter. Is this car the best in its class? No, by any means but its value (safety rating, purchase price, warranty, comfort, running costs etc.) against your dollars may very well be on the top in the same group of cars. The following part of my comment is general and not part of my reply. I paid attention in college physics classes and try to maintain static friction in the snow. The moment the wheels spin (like in this video) the traction drops drastically, this is fact and not a subject of any debate. I have to disagree with Roman and Nathan about bringing the cars to deep snow or even to cold climate without proper winter tires is a real world testing situation. The testers should rather educate people not to do this. If you live in or visit cold climate you need winter tires regardless of snow, period. Many places, like in the High Sierras often even chains are mandatory and the decision is (rightfully) not given to the driver. This is a safety issue. BTW Roman, to your comment @7:17, you got stuck in the snow with Subaru Forester XT as well. I am not defending Mitsubishi here, many criticism against them are most likely legit, especially in the US market. However, I am also tired of seeing the excessive bullying towards this automaker. On the other hand I am happy that many people badmouth Mitsubishi. This will bring me even better deals when I am up for my next car purchase few years from now provided the VIN starts with a J (to back up what was said @2:10). Taking the production out of Japan or Germany haunts not only Mitsubishi but also Nissan, VW etc. (just read owner forums of Rouge or Golf concerning build quality). Thanks for reading.

I used to have a 2009 SX4, in White, with the AWD and it was amazing in the winter. I remember driving home during an ice storm(one of the worst in years) and most cars were at a stop and some were in the ditch. I stopped to help one dude in a Mazda 3 that was helplessly stuck on the shoulder, sideways. Many people were trying to go and their cars slid sideways. The SX4?..lol...no problem! Push the gas pedal gently and it simply went without issue..I was slowly weaving and working my way through a horde of stuck cars on the freeway and got home safely. I had to sell it for personal reasons....presently, I am stuck with a '16 Elantra GT, which is an alright car.... but real bad in the winter. I'm more than likely going trade for an Outlander before winter hits. It is the most similar car I can find to that awesome little SX4. It is affordable, has a good reliability reputation...and as evidenced in this review, it is quite capable in snow.

I am unsubscribing...this review is very very biased, tires are not winter tires, I have an ASX or RVR and it is a kicker and very reliable in all conditions. Also outlander sport ranked second after Subaru in overlap crashes according to the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jj5kFqksC8s.html)... yet I can see those guys commenting on bonnet clearance which I never had in snow conditions in mine anyway (mine is made in JAPAN).....for more safety features go search for Mitsubishi Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE)...

What kind of drivers are you? I will drive with front or rear wheel drive on that snow easely like 99% of better average drivers . It's no problem in a car but driver. You have not absolutely knowledge of driving. But people like bull..it

Couldn't you tell they like to have fun while they make the reviews.. dry sense of humor everywhere as well as winter experts who have never had any wheel spin of any kind in snow and ice. Ha

For that price I would get a Dodge Journey 4X4.. much nicer interior with 8.4" touchscreen/nav, and double the power @ 283hp. TFL you have yet to test it

A Subaru XV CrossTrek will beat the Mitsubishi Outlandish Sport, and it definitely competes with it as well.

I would never buy a Mitsubishi it's just too random, not many dealers and parts would be a pain in the ass to get.
