I bought from a Ritchie Brothers auction a 2015 579, mid roof, 500hp mx13,18 sp. Disc brakes, got it for $2,100, emissions disabled, slowly fixing things, replaced egr cooler so far, cleaned dpf, drove it home last week.
Paccar engines are not that bad to deal with. As far as emissions systems go, the Dpf, Doc, and Scr, there are 3 things that can be done, 1. Is clean the fuel doser if start to see and increase in the amount of regens being done, this is also true for a Cummins. 2. The next time you change the oil, pull the inlet Nox sensor and remove and clean it's port (12mm Allen if I remember correctly) the ports fill with soot and can cause an issue. 3. In your DEF pump you can replace the internal filter, just need a 27mm 12 point socket. This can also be done with most of the major truck brands. When I work for Paclease these were some of the things that we did as part of our fleet maintenance.
The Paccar engine uses the Cummins after market for emissions, and Turbo is the same one Cummins uses also. It’s a Cummins motor from the turbo back basically.
That's a true fairy tale. The MX-13 is an engine from DAF Trucks the Netherlands, developed at Brainport Eindhoven. DAF Trucks is one of the three truck brands of PACCAR. The rules for emission in Europe were before the emission rules in the US. So it might be, I'm not sure, that it's the other way around.
@@5.43v This engine is a DAF engine and is called after her mother PACCAR. This engine is completely developed by DAF Trucks at Brainport Eindhoven the Netherlands. That’s why the engine is metric till the last bold.
It is nothing of a cummins other then it does share a few emissions sensor. Paccar is a 13L and cummins is a15L. It is a DAF european engine hence why everything is driven off the rear of the engine rather than the front like most american engines
There is a recall/campaign going on . The oil filter cap has 3small tabs in it that break off and destroy the bearings. We gave had 3 engines destroyed so far and were replaced with factory longblocks under warranty.
My paccar has over a million miles on it. One thing I noticed once I hit 700k miles is the wiring. Make sure u have a good mechanic that can repin your harnesses. Done the rods and mains turbo clutch drive train air compressor etc. put about $80,000 in the 3 years owning it. I do a pm 10-12k mile oil change intervals.
2013 2nd Gen pac kW 660 . Ran this truck for 4 years. I will never NEVER!...purchase a paccar again. Soon as I maxrd out the extended warranty at about 60k I sold the truck. The cummins I own now is trustworthy and it makes me money.
50000 mile oil changes line haul duty, I almost never idle this truck 2016 1,004688 miles on it Water pump clutch fan manifold and starter that's it gas been done. And still run s strong.
What that means is if your caught your truck will be refused registration, top tip on how to get bankrupt really fast. Bio fuels don’t have same lubricity , use fuel additives to save fuel pump, disperse water, and keep injectors clean !
From what I've watched and read, the Paccar EGR and EGR cooler are junk.I have 2013 Cascadia with DD15 and still never have touched either EGR or the cooler, but I don't idle! That's the biggest #1 destroyer of these emissions engines 😁
Good video I just bought a 2014 Pete 579 with a MX 13 in it had the check engine light on changed the fuel filters in it and and bingo check engine light went out like you said. That being said the only real problem I am having so far is when the turbo winds down it sounds like it has a backfire problem of all things. I was told at a dealer almost all of them do it something to do with the egr valve I think. Its set to 485HP and does a decent job pulling at gross weight in the hills this is the first Paccar engine I ever drove its stronger than I thought it was going to be. Put 10.000 miles on it so far no leaks or using of oil idle is a little rough going to put in some Lucas injector cleaner and see if it helps any also in a couple of months going to get a overhead done Im sure it needs it by now.
When you hear that backfire that's the back pressure valve on the back of the turbo, it does that while the truck is self regen. I had to replace mine before but for the most part that's normal. The valve adjustment will definitely help and quite the motor down. I also was impressed with how well the motor did pulling hills, but alot of that has to do with the gearing setup of the truck.
Lucas can't hurt, but also keep an ear open on the idle, these like to regen alot at idle especially everytime you start the truck up but you will hear it smooth out when it's done doing that if you idle it long enough
you all probably dont care at all but does someone know a way to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the account password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Jude Jad thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and Im trying it out now. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
this my company truck if i go solo i'm get this truck after driving freightliners and internationals . I love the comfort and power my only got 260k rn drives like new supposedely had big regen prob before me
The emission system for Paccar made by Cummins probably that's why ppl have so many issues. Bro If you do maintenance as often and spend tons of extra bucks what is the point to be an O/O?
Got a Peterbilt 579 2015 paccar with 1,0041,000 miles on it the only problem is temperature gauge goes to 230 I change the oil an filters at 6500 to 8000 miles if you can help out
I have a 2013 kw t800 mx13 I change oil every 13k to 15k miles I use full synthetic 15w40 Rotella buy it at Walmart and also do fuel ones with it I have no issues with the truck I got it when 364xxx miles now is 430xxx. Miles how ever it leaks oil by the starter somehow shows there but so far truck is good
I'm flatbed, so with 48k on the deck I'm about 79k gross and get about 7.1 to 7.5 depending on where im running. That's also not babying it and running normally 65 to 67mph
Off the top of my head I can't recall what it cost plus I had to replace my EGR valve with it. But if you not building any boost you're either in torque derate or there is some other sort of problem
I got my paccar 4 years ago,and do every 62.000 ml oil change, run on T6 Air filter ones a year Never had Any problem with my paccar. My tip: DON'T IDLE Paccar engine is a bullet proof engine Engine is coming from the DAF Netherlands,it runs for decades with no problem. Get informed better
Engine is solid everything else is not. Congrats tho on being the 1% that had good luck. Done more research then the average human on those engines to figure out the issues I had. Idle time at most was 10% on fridged nights. So appreciate the comment but that has literally done nothing to help others. I was just putting out my common issues and the fixes iv done for them
Bro y these truck because I have the same one as u I did oil change and water separator and air filters but my check engine light came on 800 miles after saying connect engine service tool
@@g.l.murphy sorry about the late response thank you I’ll try it out.. I had been using hotshot secret but that I think that stuff so good and concentrated it causes check engine lights but no power loss or derates
@@peppaboy9 thank you. I also Googled paccar engine rpm also and saw 1100-1300. And 1300-1400 for high exhaust temp or check engine lites. I wish I could do a volunteer park regen fling my 10hr break. 🤔🤔🤔
@@g.l.murphy The freightliner have an adjustment screw with a locking nut. Fairly simple on those. But i this 2014 Pete 579 Paccar MX13 is like rocket science, LMAO. I'm I searching google but nothing useful. Truckers report. Com has nothing either. I'm just sitting at a pilot in Vegas, TX ....trying to save a few bucks as an O/O....
I hear that gotta save it where we can. Honestly I really don't know I never had a truck that got enough play in it to figure that out lol but ya anything paccar is rocket science for some damn reason
Something you can do to save a lot of headache that comes with the paccar engine is next time you are in the shop have them pull it out and put a Cummins in it!
And that's why DAF Trucks are sold in many countries all over the world. I lived in Brazil and I've only see Ford trucks there and that brand is dying over there after 100 years of being there. And that's why Volvo and MB bought the whole truck industry in the US except PACCAR.
@@g.l.murphy yes I’ve heard that and that is true but I think that emissions account for literally 99% of any engine related problem that could go wrong. I currently drive a tired s60 12.7 and want to upgrade to a mx13 in a 567 pete.. I’m getting 5 mpg on level ground babying it at 65 mph and 75k gross. Any idea of the mpg on the mx13?
Clover Trucking in my paccar the book says to use 10w 30 synthetic blend I’m not sure if I should Keep in using that or switch oils I asked the dealer and they think I should stick with what the book recommends
My book as well says that but also says you can use 15w40. It's personal preference and depending on why type of hauling you are doing, I have just always used rotella 15w40 and never had an issue with it which is why I continue to use it
I never researched that much because I haven't found too many good stories on getting paccars deleted properly. But I know it has been done unsure of the price tho. I would say around 7k
Having your EGR valve and cooler pressure cleaned, along with your crossover pipe for a full clean. It removes all the built up that restricts the flow.
Clover Trucking like diesel force cleaning. thanks I’m getting my into a 2014 386 with an MX13. Trying to get honest experience with maintenance procedures what to look out for.
Well the additive I have no experience with. I go to dealership to have it professionally cleaned. But I constantly try new things to prolong the life of these engines and find ways to keep the cost down as much as possible. So any new information I obtain worth sharing I will make a video of
You got screwed over paying $1000 for a engine light diagnostic. It literally takes an hour to connect it to a laptop and run a system diagnostic test.
