This is my daily driver, and I'm reviewing it in a snowstorm because that's what the car is made for. I'm still just beginning at making these reviews so let me know if there's something you want to see in future reviews, be it information about something or personal experiences or camera views of certain things or presenting style or production quality. Feel free to comment below.

My friend has a 2014 crosstrek and she really likes it, no issues, automatic. I have an 07 outback wagon manual transmission. It’s my first Subaru, bought it early 2022 and I love the car. Fun to drive, I love the clean timeless design and comfort. Handles well and will cruise at 90 no problem if you want. Works well with all seasons, and I have snow tires too. Mine is well equipped. very capable in snow, hauling things. Decent gas mileage, especially considering it’s AWD. I’ve had questionable reliability. It will always start and drive, but it does burn quite a bit of oil even with only 76k mi on it. , after some -24°F weather my steering rack started leaking, and I need to have rack and pinion done. Because of this and the cost to fix it I took it off insurance and only drive my other daily, a ‘97 VW Passat TDI 5 speed. The Subaru shutters over 45, so I currently use it from getting from one side of our farm to the other and I’ll get it fixed hopefully soon. Comparing the clutch of the Subaru to my VW, the VW is definitely smoother and less jerky I’d say. I don’t mind, but just different. I have had great dealership service from VW, but have not had a good experience on multiple occasions with my local Subaru dealership, not to mention is considerably less nice environment compared to VW

Im in the UK, I have this car, a 2015 model. Only big difference is it has a 1.6 engine as the only choice here. I know the 2 litre would be more suited but in all honesty, on our roads, its fine. You have to work it a bit to get the best out of it but boxer engines like to be worked, no point being afraid of getting the revs up, its a strong engine. I have had faster cars but I have no interest in 0-60 times, they are simply not relevant on public roads. My car will do the speed limit no problem at all and if I need to overtake, I simply drop down a gear and then you hear the magical boxer sound as you fly past whatever slow vehicle it happens to be. I think a lot of younger people fail to understand a lot about engines, the perception is everything should have a turbo. NA cars like this seem to baffle them, but I can tell you that I have embarrassed much more powerful cars in this humble 1.6 hatchback. People either understand what Subaru is all about or they dont. I love em!

@@tinocabral4201 nah it feels quick but I’m comin from an old Ford ranger so most thing would feel fast lol. It’s a little underpowered on hills sometimes but it’s pretty zippy, live in the mountains now and it’s perfect

How do you enjoy the standard? I’ve got an 09 and hate the fact it’s an automatic and only 4 gears especially on the highway

Great review. I bought a used 2014 base model about two months ago and everything you said rings true about the car. It's my first manual so it's nice to know that my poor clutch control when I was learning wasn't just me and I've heard a few other reviews mention the quick clutch uptake. Even after two months I'm finding I'm really just starting to figure out how to take off quickly from a stop without upsetting the car too much. I also find shifting from first to second can be tricky to do smoothly. Also agree with it being a little under powered - I really wish it had just a little bit more, maybe another 10HP, and it would be nice if it didn't sound like I was street racing just getting the car up to a moderate speed in first. Still waiting on some good snowfall this year to really see this thing shine.

I know exactly what you mean about that sound haha. It makes so much noise and you look down and see so little speed. The trick with the 1-2 shift is just let out the clutch slowly but with no gas (a bit if you're going uphill). The clutch is definitely not super forgiving for a first manual. I've taught some friends of mine stick on this car and I preface it with, "If you can drive this, you can drive any newer car."

Just bought this car, I actually love the feel of it. It's your first manual so you would not know, but this transmission feels classic. It's so responsive, so tactile. Go try other clutches and then come back to this and you will enjoy that rumble in the stick.
@fraserwilson249
@fraserwilson249 Год назад
@@theskyizblue2day431 Yeah, really wish I had the opportunity to try more manuals. My two friends who've always had sticks both just bought automatics (couldn't find what they were looking for in a manual) and with the way manuals are going my chances to drive others are probably going to be few and far between. I did, however, recently get to drive a manual trans golf cart which had a hilariously bad clutch but that could have been due to all the golfers who'd previously driven it who had no idea what they were doing and buggered the whole thing up.

@@fraserwilson249 this is a great car. I have the same one, base 2014. Mine is green! you will get used to the rev hang faster if you compensate for it in the pedal movement. So actually let go of the gas first, AND THEN push the pedal in. It will feel more natural for the car. The rev hang is something I had to learn as well. I have not found a smoother way to shift. You have to think ahead with this car, and always be in the right gear. For the job. Do not lug it's engine I e acceleration in too high of a gear for your current speed. This car is VERY smooth when you get it right. the transmission combined with the AWD combined with the rumble of the boxer engine combined with the low center of gravity truly makes this car feel amazing in ways I have not felt in a car probably ever. It feels premium, it really does. Turn off the radio, and really focus on your car. Get those smoother transitions down asap because that is how you will make your car last forever. My car burns a quart every 2000 miles. I have fun when I drive because these cars can take it. You will burn more oil engine braking and going past 4k rpm. Subaru gave us an amazing fun commuter car that WHIPS in low gears. Have fun, bro!

Question I just bought an 2021 Impreza sport could you tell me at what RPM you shift at? I generally have been up shifting at about 3,000 or 3,500 at the most. I also try to down shift when I drop below 2,000rpm.

Nice review. Native buffalonian here...Looking at a 2014 Impreza Sport Ltd. Had similar questions regarding maintenance, head gaskets, any issues you've had. Would you buy this as a used car with higher mileage approaching 100k? Thanks in advance!!
@CurtisStuart27
@CurtisStuart27 2 года назад
Yeah, I would. It currently has 90,000 miles and is still going strong with no issues. All I've done is changed the oil every 7,500 miles and spark plugs at 60k miles, still on the original brake pads and rotors. Head gaskets aren't really an issue anymore on the FA engines, but some were affected with a valve spring recall so make sure that's done (I think it was only 2012-13 models though, but not positive)

I have a question I was thinking about buying a 2014 Subaru Impreza but I was wondering have you had any kind of issues with your motor like a head gasket or anything like that thank you and also awesome review
@CurtisStuart27
@CurtisStuart27 3 года назад
I haven't had any issues with this car, although at 76,000 miles it has started burning a little oil (classic Subaru). No head gasket worries though. I know the FA20 engines are far better in that regard than the old EJ25

It's the JVC KW-V830BT. I don't think they make it anymore, but there are plenty of options out there. If you have an Android phone, I found an adapter online that makes it wireless Android Auto and it's fantastic. Saves you from the premium on the head units with wireless AA
