Has Toyota fixed the tundra rust frame issue? So what year tundra is best to avoid this issue??? The newest one? Thx
@kevinp5325
@kevinp5325 5 лет назад
I wonder how many of these online commenters talking about frame rust actually own Tundra's. I haven't seen any premature frame rust on the newer Tundra's and Tacoma's. People who claim otherwise need to get their eyes checked. All frames rust to some degree. The issue with the older Tundra's and Tacoma's was that they were literally falling apart due to rust...that's no longer an issue on the newer Toyota trucks.
@connerbutler1077
@connerbutler1077 4 года назад
Complete false Toyota openly said the 2011-2017 Tacoma’s frame will rust out and be sprayed/replaced when needed even the 2007-2010 tundras are in on it.

Also Dodge trucks (1500 and 2500 ) have closed box frame but they ride better than Toyota's due to coil spring suspension in the rear. Open C just makes the truck feel wiggly but it's better for corrosion since it can't trap moisture.

The 2022 tundra now uses rear coils and multilink. And a fully boxed frame.

Mike, fully box that frame for 2018 so I can buy a tundra my chevy is getting up there in miles but I won't buy a tundra until you strengthen the frame. "If for comfort" tell that to my buddy who has dents in the cab from the bed contacting it while off-roading. It's the back bone of the truck. If you want to improve the ride upgrade the suspension.

Jimmy Garcia The 4Runner, Land cruiser, and Sequoia all have fully boxed frames. Why can't the Tacoma and Tundra have it? Obviously the other brands with fully boxed frames have found a way to increase ride comfort by using the suspension not the frame. You know?
@jimmy4x4socal44

Kyler Able absolutely. And I'd really like a crewmax with a 6.5ft bed. For me the 5.5 is too short.

When it comes to this design debate, the biggest misconception among the general public, is our natural preconceived notion that RIGIDITY = STRENGTH, and FLEXIBILITY = WEAKNESS. Erase that mindset before you judge anything. Amongst the three biggest automakers on Earth (GM, Toyota, VW), Toyota is the only one with an overwhelming positive reputation for quality, durability, reliability, and value. Lastly, considering that Toyota spends $30 million dollars a day on research and development, it's safe to say that they know more than us.

Flimsy frame for ride comfort is a horrible excuse. Ford, Chevy, and Ram all have fully boxed frames and superior ride and handling to the Tundra. They’re just too embarrassed to say that it’s there just to cut costs. Suspension is made to flex, not the frame.
@andrewcless1250

C - channel is never better than boxed except lower cost, at least the Sequoia chassis is fully boxed

Any imbalance with the openC= wheel hop, shake, and don’t forget a horrible ride. I really hope they rethink the frames on the next gen tundra and Tacoma.

Says it's for off-road flex but then in another video his excuse for not putting a rear locker was the exact opposite that the taco and 4runner are for off-road enthusiasts not the tundra. Either way the bed bounce on the freeway is really uncomfortable sometimes, even after I added a sway bar to stiffen it up. And a locker or at least a posi would be nice in the rear end rather than a annoying computer that just wants to wear out my brakes.

A person with who goes limp is less likely to sustain broken bones in an accident than someone who goes stiff. Same idea with these frames. It’s less likely that the Tundra would have frame damage as it can recover from flexing. This all means less stress on the body mounts, suspension mounts, etc.(longer service life for parts) but at the cost of cosmetic issues(bed contacting cab). Granted a fully boxed frame is stronger, but if something does end up flexing it’s guaranteed to bend. Take your chances. Either way we have no clue as to how much stress both frames can handle before they break.

So, the big three use fully boxed frames for ride comfort, as it allows you to tune the suspension to soak up bumps, but Toyota says open C is for ride comfort. hmmm

I am a Toyota fan but why Tundra failed miserably at Ford's Silver Creek Proving Grounds....Tundra was in the bottom and you can see how the box was moving as if the frame had broken??? here are the links #1 2013 Ford F-150 vs. The Competition at Silver Creek #2 Independent review MrTruck visits Ford Michigan Proving Grounds to compare F150 Durability to GM, Ram & Toyota ???

The frame was not broken ...You have 2 "living quaters" the same size. One is a brick house the other one is an army tent.You can open the tent with a box cutter , not the brick house.But witch one of those 2 living quarters would you prefer to be in if there's a huge earthquake?... If your goal is that your box move with the cabin don't buy a tundra .My goal is to keep on going like the energizer bunny.

ok great, but Mr. Sweer why do Toyota truck frames rust? why do you guys have to offer recalls or buy backs for your trucks? why you guys cant build a proper frame. i have owned toyota trucks as old as 1979 to new as 2007. whats common on all? frame rust. i just bought chassis saver for my Tundra so i can save the frame from rusting. i love your engines and transmissions but Toyota build some worst frames ever!
