Thanks for giving me reason to highlight common mistakes on THIS job! I'm recording this AND the parking brake SHOE replacement, today. (I haven't seen these yet...) These ARE NOT self adjusting! I go through ALL of the steps that SHOULD be taken. Thank you for taking the time to show people what they're getting themselves into... Fairly easy DIY!

You are correct. Not self adjusting, leaned the hard way. Absolutely rocked new pads and rotors, probably caliper too.

Great information in this video, man. I also highly recommend removing the bolts you were touching at 1:13 to remove the calipers from the bracket. It really makes for easier handling, cleaning and replacement in my opinion.

I've watched several videos on replacing rotors on Subarus and they say don't use the screw holes on the rotors to get them off. They're wrong. I used 3"-8mm-125 pitch bolts and the rotors broke lose with very little effort with a 13mm wrench. So, much easier than any other method.
@jpwiggins3725
@jpwiggins3725 4 года назад
IMHO it's easier to remove the pins and then take the pads and caliper off. You really should lube those pins anyway and it makes for easier re-assembly

If you take the bolt out of the bracket that holds the brake line in place you A- get the right size bolt to thread into the rotor to push it off the hub and B - get more slack to stow your caliper somewhere

If you need a bolt to remove rotors or drums, use the radiator support bolt. Every vehicle I’ve worked on this bolt fits.

Actually you can just take the piston bolts and use those in the two threaded holes.
@Misadventures_Of_A_Yank
@Misadventures_Of_A_Yank 5 месяцев назад
Instead of using your C-clamp on the one side of the piston, potentially scoring the bore and ruining the caliper, just leave the inside brake pad on and put the C-clamp on there. You'll have a more uniform press on the piston and won't damage anything

If the emergency brake is released, you shouldn’t “have” to adjust the emergency brakes. If the rotor spins, those pads aren’t touching the rotor. No?

should I do all 4 and THEN pump the brakes? or do the front first, pump then repeat on the rear? and is there any particular order if you do rears first then front?
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 8 месяцев назад
I do all 4 and then pump. Now if you mean bleeding the brakes, then you start at the rear that is the furthest angle away from the abs block and work your way up to the closest one if you are bleeding the brakes...

So when u turn the little dial to loosen up ur rear e brake pad from rotor, how do you know you have set it back to regular to evenly match the other side? What's the tip?
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 2 года назад
Pretty sure I mentioned it in the video- For re-install, twist it back just until it won't let you move the rotor back and forth (it's grabbing), then back it off a small amount like an 8th of a turn and that's it. Now do the same on the other side...
@Joey_Bananas

Awesome vid man. Couple questions. Is it necessary to resurface/replace the rotors when new pads are put in? Also is lube needed if just replacing the pads of so, where? Those metal clips that hold the pads in look interesting but I guess if they're replaced it's not too bad to figure out how to pop them back in. Thanks a bunch in advance, appreciate it :)
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 3 года назад
It's not necessary if they are in good enough shape. I remember my parents having rotors resurfaced when I was a kid for $10 each; not worth it in my opinion- I would rather pay more and have new rotors. And me personally, I always replace the rotors with the pads, but that's because I want everything to be new and perform as best as possible because I am very hard on brakes, though it's not required if your rotors are still decent. But if you use your brakes hard at over 100mph like me, you should definately replace both in my opinion. And are you talking about the slide pin lube? Technically anytime you service the brakes you should lube those, but I almost never do lol.
@Joey_Bananas
@Joey_Bananas 3 года назад
@@BuckeyeBallistics I think they're in pretty decent shape. Some rust on the edges of the rotors. No major marking. 2018 wrx with about 30k miles so I think it's good for just pads but I hear ya. My buddy said not worth it to resurface rotors when new ones are only like twice the cost of the resurface plus after resurfacing less metal on the rotor therefore it gets hotter quicker.. makes sense to me.
@Joey_Bananas
@Joey_Bananas 3 года назад
@@BuckeyeBallistics yes, I was talking About the slide pin lube I think the 'ears' of the pad I heard the gentleman say. Doesn't seem imperative but can't hurt to do it.
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 3 года назад
Never heard of anyone lubing the ears, but that's not a bad idea considering how many I have experienced sticking and not wanting to slide. I just wouldn't gob so much on that it hit's the rotors, because then you won't be able to stop lol.
@Joey_Bananas
@Joey_Bananas 3 года назад
@@BuckeyeBallistics yeah stopping is pretty important with replacing the pads/servicing the brakes😂 lmao. Definitely not looking to Fred Flintstone my car. I think the rotors are good to slap some pads on without resurfacing/replacing. I'll double check but I'm quite conservative with braking I'm not one that's coming to an abrupt stop at every light and/or slamming on my brakes so it should be good 🤞🙌 How's the slotted/drilled rotors? Def worth it over oem? For the pads I just picked up the oem pads for now. They should be more than fine for me but I've heard Scotty Kilmer (yt channel if you don't watch) mention akebono? Pads as a good oem like alternative that are quite good and another brand EBC I hear are great blend of street and performance

Did upgrading the rotors give you better performance or was it about the same?
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 2 года назад
That depends on what is on the car that you will be replacing. If there is just generic auto parts store stuff on there, then yeah you'll notice improved performance. I used to smoke the brakes above 100mph on just about all my cars and couldn't stop- I've never had that issue with these with the ceramic pads you can get them with. Even better pads would enhance the performance even further...

Hey buddy just found this video! Quick question what was the rotor size as my car online says it's a 2014 V1 premium GK but it looks like a GJ? The part numbers I found for rear was DBA2662E for solids and DBA2662S for slotted. Issue I have is other webpages state all other types of rotor but mine on specs according to DBA say: Diameter (mm)300 Height (mm)46.4 Thickness (mm)17 Minimum Thickness (mm)15 Centre Hole (mm)58 Stud Holes5 weight: 6.5 kgs Is this correct? Cheers
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 3 года назад
I don't know the sizes, but I do recall you need to make sure you order the correct rotors. One is for the cars with the "eyesight" package which was an option, a system that watches you drive and automatically brakes if you're about to hit something and stuff like that. 90% of them don't have the eyesight package.
