2015 Ascensori Ticino MRL traction elevator @ Contrada di Sassello 1, Lugano, Switzerland 

I don´t know when I saw such a door for the first time (it´s less than five years ago), but they become more and more popular in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

@@SamSitar Well, I guess it is because there´s not enough space for a door with equal sized parts on both sides, or an even bigger part on one side. Up to now I´ve seen these doors always on elevators that have been modernized or that replace an older elevator, like this one. That means, the company that has done the modernization had to deal with the size of the shaft and create a door that exactly fits in, because the shaft cannot be changed in width without building a completely new one.
