1972 I believe was a DOT requirement for flow thru air flow of fresh cab air. Don’t forget cabin air filter behind glove box. There are standard filters or upgrade to an activated carbon filter as it blocks smells like a cattle feed lot. Nice work Betty! Harbor Freight sells nylon body tools / pry bar stuff in a kit. We never have all the tools we would like. ASE Master tech since 78.
In the dealer, we frequently took the new guy, put him in the trunk with a flashlight and like Betty, hosed it slowly from bottom up, left to right while communicating with the guy inside. Just clean the trunk, carpet, everything out. Using a knee pad makes it easier. Note: Check for TSB’s online be year, make and model. Not to be confused with recall as it is done at dealers at no charger. ASE Master since 78. Retired.
I put up the fix for this over a year ago on RU-vid. I just have a correction and a suggestion. First the the correction you do not have to take off the bumper, you can remove the check valve vent from inside the the trunk, as I show in my video. Second is the suggestion. To do the water test properly, pour the water down the gutter channel like it would happen naturally in rainfall. The water goes down alongside the taillight and covers the vent. Second suggestion , i wouldn't use a screwdriver, if you were to take the route of removing the bumper cover. There is a plastic pry bar meant for that. That way you're a lot less likely to scratch the paint. But besides that you had a great presentation. Video looks a lot more professional than mine. And PS these are a common issue for these cars including the Impalas. Impala seem to happen more around the tail light gasket. Sometimes you can just tighten the taillight a little bit to fix it
Hello @alexsosa1214. We didn't replace ours, but suggest you start with your local Chevy dealer. You might compare with an online search as well as your local auto parts house. Hope you get it fixed soon! Thanks for the question.
