I believe the fluid capacity is 9 to 9.5 quarts and you won't be able to drain all of it in one shot. So what I did when I changed mine was drain it (I got about 4.5 quarts out) Put the plug back in, refill what I drained out and drove it for about 15 minutes. It circulates the fluid from the torque converter into the pan. I put it back up and drained another 4 quarts. I refilled and topped it off so the dipstick read that it was full. Otherwise you're just adding fluid to old fluid. I think most people don't want to spend $60+ on new fluid, but it definitely helps. My traverse was slipping at high rev on the highway, and that seemed to go away after I changed the fluid. Theses transmissions are very temperamental, and if you ignore the fluid you will pay the price. Old, dirty fluid breakdown means it loses its capability of dissipating heat and it can cause a wave plate failure which will destroy the trans. This was a good, simple video. Thanks!!
Another YT video suggest do total 12 quarts: three total drain/fills in 4 quart increments. And have a 13th single quart to top off at third final fill
Wouldn't that fluid just mix together while circulating?? And did u replace the filter inside the transmission too? Im Confused on how the fluid would stay separate. I've never taken a trans out or looked inside one
You don't have to put it on ramps. I was able to drain and fill it with tires on the ground. I used Valvoline Dexron VI. Shifts like new. Vibration is gone.
