you definetely helped me when choosing my first car. i bought a 2015 ford focus se hatchback manual and im very satisfied by its fuel efficiency and its build quality. i wont hide you that i love the ford brand in general.
+Mathieu Lacasse Thanks! Im glad I could help, after all this is why I create these videos to help people make their decision when buying their next vehicle :)
+Camerons Car Reviews your welcome. you do great videos and you show every details so we can get a clear idea. I can say that the heating steering wheel, seats (winter package) will be very useful in Canadian winters where I live!
I'm picking up my new Focus Se Sedan in the morning and this video has helped me under the instrument cluster and operations of my car. Thank you Cameron.
You left out the best part; DRIVING THE CAR ! My 2014 SE with sport package and manual trans has a taut but not rough ride, and the handling is amazing considering this is not supposed to be a sports car. Highly recommend the manual which is fun, light and slick, and saves you $1000 over the automatic. Nice they have paddle shifters now for the automatic. Too bad they dumbed down the center stack though cos it looks generic compared to the futuristic set up on the earlier models. The cruise controls on my 2014 are also way better than the 2015. Oh yeah, the sport seats on the 2014 look like sport seats; the 2015 ones look plain. I'm currently installing a K&N cold air intake kit. Also the engine is much quieter when the break-in oil is changed out to full synthetic. -Forget the nit-picking; Ford's Focus is a fun car to drive and feels up-scale. Mine has no complaints or issues after 3 months of horrid winter driving. We are spoiled these days; I remember when a car was good if it actually started in cold weather.
I'm thinking about getting a 2012-2014 5 speed manual Ford Focus SE hatch with the 201a package. I know the dual clutch transmission is troublesome but are there any other problems or considerations?
David Lyday It's been well over a year and 20,000 kms and I have not had a single issue or complaint during this time (we have lots of bad weather and rough roads here in eastern Canada, also installed the electronic rust proofing and undercoating). Highly recommend the K&N Typhoon intake system; really cool sound and a little more snap especially near redline. I'm really impressed with the clutch and manual transmission which are a joy to use. I also use premium fuel because of the additional cleaning additives, a consideration for GDI engines which have the injectors in the combustion chambers. Check that the manual gearbox is full; I added a third of a liter until the oil flowed out the fill hole (with car level).
@@gwwayner I agree, if your going to get a 2013 to 2015 Focus get the Manual. Too many problems with the Auto. The Manual gearbox makes this car just as reliable as a Toyota. I have 73,000 km and not a single problem. Gas milage in the city when taking it easy is 34 MPG and on the highway traveling 90 km/h (a little slow) I get 42 MPG! Excellent build quality and spunky little care. Handling is phenomenal also!
Very astute to park the '15 next to the '14 for an easy comparison. Thought that the previous gen looked OK until seen side by side with its replacement. The new styling appears more cohesive.
What makes the difference in the ones that get 27-40 mpg and the ones that get 26-38? The ones that get 40 have the 2.0L I-4 GDI engine and 6 speed automatic transmission. Glad you pointed out the tail light difference- I like the bigger 2014's better.
Nice Alloy wheels, but the European version has some better features. Better engines, led daytime running lights, rear head rests retract to give better visibility, nicer seats with more side support. And what was that ignition key! It looked like something from a 1980's Renault!
US Focus buyers are unfortunate to have this ancient drive-train 2.0L natural aspired with 5-speed gearbox.....very sad..... In Europe we are lucky to have a 1.5 L 4-Cylinder Ecoboost with 180 hp/ 240 Nm torque and 6-speed gearbox. Average fuel-consumption: 38 Miles/Gallon.
Might as well just spend an extra couple of grand and get a base Mustang V6 Fastback. The only Focus worth a damn is the RT but they are way to pricey.
How much bigger is the focus hat back than the fiesta? I'm looking at a 2015 Ford Focus hatchback and a 2016 for fiesta, I like small cars and the fiesta length is just about right but I love the focus and it has a better interior but is longer....... Is it noticing you longer or what?
+Omarinho10 The focus has a bigger boot, a bit more room for passengers (not much), I'd say it's about half a meter longer (1 and a half foot) and that's about it. It also has more options available than the fiesta.
My Brother in law has a Focus and here in Australia and as well in the US the Auto gearbox has major faults since 2012 and ford have no fix for this. When you take it back they just re flash the computer and send you on your way with the auto still shuddering.Shame as it looks good buying one you are just buying BIG trouble with the auto

Shitty transmission. None lasts more than 20K miles. Dealers refuse to replace transmission. They just say that's by design. Customers are left with a piece of junk. Ford says hahaha good luck screw you.
