Once again, the "experts" are criticizing a luxury car for not being sporty. The "experts" dare not drive a Rolls Royce, because it contains ZERO sportiness.

Obviously your definition of 'luxury' does not mesh with the luxury of not having to have the car towed into the dealership every 3 months and the waste of time in order to maintain "luxury". Rolls Royce makes complete shit nowadays.
@georgecostanza2695
@georgecostanza2695 5 лет назад
TheLAKERSareGodsTeam that's not entirely accurate. RR's warranty accrual per unit on their unlimited mileage policy has maintained a consistent downward trend for the last couple decades. I'd say that's pretty good, considering the current model range is the most extensive in the company's history and more miles are being put on Rolls Royces than ever before.

Ya but a roles Royce has crazy amounts of torque and 0 to 60 in 5 seconds, It's fast. It's the new age where luxury sedans have to have it all it's kinda ridiculous but good adaptive suspension can help with that. That's pretty much all that needs to be done but it's costly. so usually only really expensive flagships have them.

That is what a true Luxury car is supposed to do, isolate you from the outside environment and create it's own. If you want to feel the road, get a go cart, or better yet open the door stick your hand out and touch the road.

Nathan and Roman - I think you asked the wrong question at the end of the video. "If you had $90k, which car would you buy?" Well of course if you had $90k you'd get the Lexus, because it's a better car. But that's not really the proper question. The real question should be "If you had $65k, would you buy the K900, a nicely equipped E350, A6 w/ prestige package, or a relatively base 535?' You see, I think that changes things a bit. When you look at all the features you get in the K900 compared to the cars I just listed, I think the K900 really has a shot here. It's a much larger, "luxo-cruiser" type car than the midsize sedans from the Germans I mentioned above, and that may appeal to someone in that price range. The same goes for the Hyundai Genesis only on the smaller scale for the Germans (C300, A4, 335i). You can be sure I'd rather pay $50k for a loaded Genesis than a well equipped 3 series with zero back seat leg room and giant repair bills once the warranty is up.

While I am a huge Lexus fan, I think that the LS is behind all of the competitors, because cars like the S-Class are a lot more desirable and have more features.
@RizwanJaved26
@RizwanJaved26 10 лет назад
That's because a base a S class costs like 15,000 more than a base LS. Compare a 100k S class with a 100k LS and there won't much of a difference in terms of features.

@RizwanJaved26
@RizwanJaved26 9 лет назад
OneOfOne Yes, but if you have that type of money then reliability doesn't matter because you'll probably get a new one in 3 years and just about any car has warranty that lasts longer than that so no worries. I have a LS460, I bought it used with 53,000 miles. I chose LS460 over S class and all that because the CPO warranty will expire soon and I have the confidence that I won't be spending too much on repairs. I can't say the same for S class and 750i. My point is, if you're getting new. Go for S class or 750i. You get better performance and a little more prestegiousness. But if you're buying used, go for LS460 unless you want to spend thousands on repairs all the time.

I think they need to come up with a new model these days. The LS 430 was built from about 2000 till 2006, the LS 460 since 2006. It's time for something new, something big!
@RizwanJaved26
@RizwanJaved26 9 лет назад
Marcel Henning Yeah, they better. If I were to buy a new full size luxury I wouldn't even consider LS460 because it is so underpowered compared to most of the other cars in its class. I have the previous gen LS460 and at that time my car was more powerful than 750i and 3 or 6 hp short of S550 and my car was still faster. But the thing is that the LS460 engine, even for todays standards, is very refined when it comes to luxury.

Great review as usual. It's nice how you've summed up the intangibles as making a huge difference between two otherwise similar cars. Some people have told me that a Kia has 2x as many features and may have more horsepower than my car (x1 35i) but when it comes to on road refinement and actual 0-60 times there's no comparison.

Personally I think you guys were waaay too hard on the Kia and gave the Lexus more appraisal then it's worth. Don't get me wrong the Lexus IS a beautiful car but that Kia is a damn good car as well and to say the Lexus is better is unorthodox. Kia has come a long ways and they are only getting better. Your paying for the badge. As far as the window farting maybe get that checked out cause my buddy's optimas windows don't sound like that and that car costs way less. Personally I think that hour glass figure grill on the Lexus looks abit ugly. I think the Kia looks nicer minus the fake air vents. This is my opinion and I know I'm gonna get hates and comments for it but so be it. You guys do good reviews tho so don't think I'm bashing you guys I watch all your reviews, but it's not fair to bash the Kia either and even you guys admit to being hard on the Kia. Maybe I'm wrong here but some people are loyal to their brands and that's that. I will continue watching your reviews and I'm just putting my 2 cents in.

So does that mean you would rather buy a car with problems in the first few months of ownership rather than none at all? Problems with a vehicle early on in the ownership cycle, creates a deep dislike for said vehicle. Most owners are more tolerant of problems 2 or 3 years down the line. Either way it's a defect the car shouldn't have. It does mean something. The fact Lexus has slipped does mean something and it probably does to Lexus management.

It means that Toyota had to cut far too many corners and rushed things too much to hit the numbers and price points they needed to become the #1 car company in the world. The reliability, build quality, and materials you saw in 90s Toyotas just aren't there anymore, at least not at anything resembling a reasonable price for an economy car. The door handle surrounds in a fully loaded 2016 Avalon, which is supposed to be their luxury car, were so sticky and greasy that I had to wash my hands afterwards, and the ride quality was so bad that my back hurt after a 15 minute test drive. The offgassing from the 4Runner and RAV4 was so disgusting that I got a headache from standing 4 feet away with the door open, no way was I getting in the thing lest I do permanent brain damage. Hopefully they'll get their quality and value back now that their frenetic pace has calmed down a bit, just like Nissan did.

@@seankurth4371 JD power studies are not conducted the way you think they are. These "issues" you speak about are customers coming back into the dealership with a misunderstanding of anything from, "why do I hear a ticking noise", to "I'm too old to turn on my headlights and this car confuses me". That is a sampling of post sales support and education and not a representation of quality. You claim they've lost their dependability when long term reliability statistics say otherwise. Toyota and Lexus owners are exceptionally critical of issues which keeps Toyota on their feet. That doesn't change actual demonstrated reliability as evidenced by the link below. dashboard-light.com/reports/Lexus.html

I agree with Nathan, there's a reason the KIA K900 is $66K and it's in the cost cutting areas to simulate what established luxury car makers have been doing for quite some time(not skimping on what buyers expect and making most components intuitive to the user). KIA(and Hyundai) have made huge strides in making attractive and better quality vehicles at competitive prices, but something has to give and it seems to me it's in the design aspect. Many KIA and Hyundai designs look like a jumble of other manufacturers design cues and, frankly, it has already made them look dated IMO(3 co-workers own KIAs- 2 Optimas and 1 Cadenza) and I see late 2000s Japanese in them. Next time you see a late model Optima, look at the greenhouse area from behind, the tapered roofline looks fussy and dated to me. Don't get me wrong, if you want a car with tons of content at an attractive price, KIA and Hyundai are clear leaders in the segment, just don't complain when resale prices plummet like a badly made paper airplane...............

jorge romani He's actually very correct in his statement. I really like the new Kias, especially the Optima. But its very clear to anyone with an eye for automobiles that Kia right now has their own unique design language (tiger-nose grille), but is copying content from other already established players in the game. That's why when you look at say the K900, you see hints of BMW, Mercedes, Audi (because their chief designer of the tiger-nose grille and now CEO used to work for Audi), and so forth. I agree, its one heck of a solid effort. Kia has come a very long way in not a long amount of time. But you can't rush true progress and success. And consumers, I guarantee, are not ready for a $70,000 Kia yet. As nice as many of their newer models are now and the built in value of their warranty, they still are lacking the dealer experience and overall value to be taken seriously for now. I do believe that that'll change as time continues to go on. But they should at least start by changing their logo to quicken the process. Using the same one that the public associates with the "old Kia" and plastering it all over $40,000-$70,000 cars isn't going to get you very far in the long-run.

I have own my K900 for over a year and compared to my Lexus LS there is no comparison. 93,500 to 62,250? how is that a fair comparison? It isn't Kia is just showing Lexus and the rest of the industry... Look out Bitches We are coming and coming up fast... To late we are there. Both cars are nice but I do really like my Kia over the Lexus because it is just a screaming, tail on fire car. It just blows the Lexus off the road. It really does, this video doesn't even come close to showing what really is happening and I feel comfortable in the Kia while it is doing it. When I am moving a around 110mph the Kia is smooth and doesn't scary me my Lexus does. Lexus is easy to over control because of the hard road feed back. For me I am slowly becoming an Kia .... Naaa Lexus is nice and I do like the looks a lot more and also when others see me in the Lexus I get that look of WoW you made it and I hope I do one day. Status symbol stuff. I get a feeling that Kia/Hyundai still had a MUCH larger budget for designing this and the Equus then what lexus had with the LS, the koreans started from scratch and made two cars which now seriously can compete with the others, while Lexus has been sleeping over the LS the few later years, it even has the same driveline as the one from 2007 for god's sake! Many of the buttons is looking 1992 to me, and have you seen the optional rear seat entertainment on the center console for the EU model? It looks like a joke! No one seems to write home about the tech and everyone is complaining about the LS600h... Doesn't Toyota understand that no matter how many new sport and powermodes and F sport they add, it is not a substitute for a remake! I deeply like the Lexus brand, but the LS is getting long in the tooth now, and they are going to be overtaken by the koreans if they don't do anything. In my mind, they already have been.

Won't you TFL guys stop being biased when reviewing a car?? Please stop being harsh on cars that you reviewers hate and give us a unbiased review! The looks are dependent on everyone's opinions. I'm sorry to compare against some other reviewer, but Chris Harris for example, quietly states his opinion about the looks after saying that looks definitely are dependent on each person's opinions about the looks, not just saying "that one is sexy, that one is ugly." And really? Complaining about the noise when moving the seats backwards and forwards in the K900? That's like complaining about the candles on birthday-cake because they melt too fast. That can't be avoided. It is reasonable! And only talking about the "culture" of rewarding yourself when driving a Lexus and only talking about the negative facts about the Kia is quite unfair. Even when they talked about the smoothness about the K900, they put it as "numb", which completely makes it clear that they don't know about the purpose of each car that the manufacturer claims. For example, that's like saying Rolls Royce is very unengaging despite the company claiming that the vehicle isn't about the engagement. Anyway, I'm sorry I'm complaining about your reviews, but please stop being biased...

The K900 has been a complete flop. This entire year KIA sold a whopping 1106 K900s. I think KIA forgot about the failure of the VW Phaeton, no one was lining up to buy a $70,000 VW, and certainly no one is lining up to buy a $65,000 KIA. What a joke. Almost everyone with 65K to spend on a car would laugh at the thought of owning a KIA.
@tgorulez
@tgorulez 9 лет назад
I wouldn't say the K900 is a flop, the vehicle at this point was not mass produced, only 5000 built. This car introduces Kia to Quality and Luxury and helps them shed the cheap little car reputation... even if they only sell a few, the car is succeeding in it's message and that will trickle down to the rest of the line-up. Hyundai did the same thing with the Azera and now the Genesis and the Equus

Well, look at all of the brand snobs coming out of the woodwork-people who haven't driven the K900, or any car in the luxury segment, I'm sure. Oh, they may tell lies in anonymity here on RU-vid, but you know they haven't. I think the K900 is a great car. FINALLY a manufacturer gives us a luxury car that doesn't pretend to be a sports car and puts comfort and ride quality on top. Every review I'd read or watched about the K900 says that this car is among the most comfortable, best riding, and relaxing to drive they've ever experienced. I think it's handsome too. I'd buy this in a second, if I were looking for a luxury sedan and had some money. The KIA has more power than the Lexus, and more front and rear leg room. Styling is subjective, despite what the one guy says here. I happen to really dislike the front end of the Lexus. I think it looks heavy, awkward, and rather cartoonish. Think of what you could do with the 40-50k you'd save over a comparable BMW or Mercedes-or the 30k you'd save over the Lexus. How about donating it to some worthy charities in honor of our Lord Jesus' birthday? Yup. That's what I'd do. And I think KIA will sell more of them when more people find out how good they are.

However, you forgot to note that the Lexus is 7 years older than the Kia. The Kia K900 really isn't anything special-- it really doesn't have anything unique except for its ridiculously absurd name (canine-hundred anyone?). Although the Lexus was refreshed in 2013 (major refresh), it still sits on a 2006 platform and drives with 2006/2007 engines. The Kia on the other hand has a new 420hp engine that's not even face-lift old. Oh, and to put into perspective, the 420hp engine in the Kia is OP-TION-AL. Yes, you heard right, OPTIONAL. The base engine is a 311hp V6. Plus, the K900 copied things from other automakers like Lexus, and BMW, Audi, Buick, etc. Kia made a nice car, but failed to impress. In 2015, the grand total for K900 sales was just 2524 models, while LS was sold off to over 7000 consumers. Oh, and must I mention that AWD isn't even available on the K900?

I've been a DieHard Chevy fan for over 20+ years. But, when I purchased my 2013 KIA Optima SXL, I was pleasantly amazed at the level of luxury and power I was getting for a competitive price. @274 HP, my Optima has wiped the floor with a Lancer EVO, Subaru WRX, Ford Fusion Titanium and The Lexus IS350! Even though those cars had more horsepower. The sheer Turbocharged 269ft lbs of torgue @ 6k rpm's, and the Optima's wide wheel base out performed my buddies Lexus and Fusion in the corners. And, @ 155mph the Ford Fusion seemed to suffer from too much wind resistance. Also, during drag races, when I switched to sport mode. The EVO and WRX were left in my dust STILL upshifting while I was crossing the finish line @ 100+mph and 1/4 mile between us! KIA has come a long way from only producing slow & ugly cars. Also, the styling of my KIA turns far more heads and catches more attention than my friends Lexus ever has. And he has aftermarket rims and tires. While my car does not. I think that KIA has proved themselves to be a premium car company. And, they deserve credit for making good cars at competitive prices. It's also been rumored that KIA is currently developing a "Balls To The Wall" Race car that will rival the Lexus LFA!!!!

Well let me offer an explanation if I may. Acura RLX is on the worst cars to buy list this year. Why is a "Japanese Quality" car on such a list? Well because your statement is a lie. Lexus is quality period. There is no such thing as Japanese quality. You've been brainwashed and perhaps you're the type of person who regurgitates what you are told. Do some research and look at the "dogs" companies like Toyota and Honda have produced. Let me start of the list for you - 1. 2001 Honda Prelude engines
@carlosoliveira-rc2xt
@carlosoliveira-rc2xt 8 лет назад
You are hilarious! It seems it's the fashion of the day amongst "kids" to call people "boy" and "kid". I will be the adult this time. You need to do more research "dad". There are many models of RLX. Some are conceived, designed, and assembled in good ole Japan. For example the Acura 2016 RLX Sport Hybrid. Additionally, the 2001 Honda example I gave ; also designed, conceived and assembled in Japan. I couldn't care less if it's sold in it's native market or not under the same or any other name. Any spin you want to put on it you can, if it makes you feel better, Dad.F.Y.I. my son is probably older than you.......and a lot smarter.

I proved Jiruchi didn't know his facts and now you want to come to his defense. As I have given examples already of made in Japan product being less than reliable, therefore I am not making assumptions. Look up the definition. My point is that " made in Japan" is no guarantee of quality and is no better than "made in Korea" and sometimes worse. Do some "quality" research before setting yourself up as the spokesman for Japanese quality. Also I don't know you, so we are not pals. Talk about assumptions.

Kia K900 vs Lexus ES350 would have been a better comparo because it's based on pricepoint, not size, and ES350 did move up in size/weight recently. Kia K900 is obviously not going to match the refinement of a current $90k+ car, but it's really cheap. About the same price as a ES350 which only has V6 and FWD. Until the next-gen Phaeton comes back, K900 and Equus are in a class of their own. I honestly think K900 was introduced this year to allow the Equus to move upscale because K900 comes too close to Equus in quality/price, and Equus is getting a bit old in the bones, it HAS to be part of corporate plan to bring prestige to the Hyundai name, which has been consistently moving upscale starting 2005 with the 2006 Sonata. Before that car, Hyundais were amongst the bottom tier of automakers, not in sales but in overall quality/refinement/performance, and they were one of the cheapest new cars you could get. The rate of them moving upscale is crazy, maybe a little too fast, and the public may not be ready for them. You know how slow the public is. They have ideas in their minds, and they are stuck with them. They're father told them Hyundais suck, and they believe their fathers. Hyundai is doing a surprisingly good job though, and they should be getting there soon. At this rate, I believe in them.

I think most people who put down Korean cars..are people who have never actually owned one or spent time in one in the last 10 years. Hyundai's are generally dependable and pleasant to drive. They give you a lot of car and technology for the least amount of money. If saving money is important to you..then consider a Korean car. If it isn't..then go get your Toyota or Lexus and be happy. But at this rate..there WILL be a TRUE Korean luxury car to compete with Lexus in less than a decade. =)

As far as the hierarchy of Luxury Reliability goes you can generally expect to see Japanese-300,000 miles+ German- 200,000 miles Korean- 180,000 miles American- 150,000 miles In terms of Luxury Features wise would rank: 1) German, 2) Japanese, 3) Korean, 4) American I like some american cars but honestly our game sucks. I hope Cadillac is really serious this year about letting go of GM and soloing it, so they can revamp their company image. I don't even know if GMC is supposed to be a luxury brand, they have "alright" looking exteriors I guess, but the interiors are like a truck. I have to disagree with the styling on the Lexus. If I saw that car on the street, I would never guess it cost 90k. Bland is one way to put it, and very similar to the cheaper cars from Lexus. When you look at a Mercedes, Jaguar, or Maserati, it exudes a sense of expensive style. I think the Kia could have been the better looking car, if it didn't have those strange addons like the vents (here I completely agree with TFLC).

The mistake many analysts make, when reviewing vehicles like the LS is that their complaints are misguided. Vehicles like the LS Lexus are luxury vehicles..not sport or enthusiast cars. The review should be based on the purpose of the cars creation and not just on their biases. The Lexus LS is a luxurious and reliable vehicle. Furthermore, I believe any vehicle that one spends more than 50k on should be reliable ( A strong point for Lexus). If the complaint is that the Lexus RC, GS, or IS doesn't give you the connectivity or communication of the road; the buyer is seeking than the reviewer's complaints have every merit to stand. But these are luxury vehicles and not sport cars.

I really enjoyed this review. It had a more critical and serious comparison vibe to it than some other ones on the channel. As for the cars, you wouldn't see either one in my driveway lol. I don't think its practical at all to spend that much on a car EVER... But I do like a few of the new Kias personally. Especially the Optima. The brand has come a long way in a very short period of time. But in that fact lies the main problem as well. I guarantee the public is not ready for a near-$70,000 Kia. Eventually, they might be. I expect the trend to change over time. But like was mentioned, the car cuts corners in some ways and even though Kia has but extensive effort into their new "tiger-nose" design language, its clear they are copying other more established brands' technology and styling advancements as well, making the car feel less unique and more basic overall despite how loaded up it is. And that's a shame, because like was mentioned in the video, I believe its a solid ride. I noticed in a different review that the engine sounds bad on start-up and in this video, it sounds like a glorified 4 cylinder at times. But you are paying for name and quality in this price range, and one is a Lexus and the other is a Kia. Kia offers a strong case in how they can undercut the competition on price and feature content and warranty, but still needs to figure out the rest of their equation before they're truly taken seriously. They can start by changing their logo I fell. Plastering the same logo from the "old Kia" all over new $40,000-$70,000 cars that are actually better than past models isn't going to take them far in the long-run, no matter how much value they can pack into their models.

Call me crazy but I seriously can't stand the new Toyota/Lexus grill.... It's the ugliest grill on any car. The weird down and out angles reminds me of the throat snakes from the show "The Strain"... Just plain UGLY.

I rather not talk about Lexus since Lexus has built quality cars for awhile so buying a lexus is a good choice, however for Kia K900 and only 66K- and you got the technology or features that are not available on some premium luxury cars like BMW, Mercedes Benz, Cadillac and Audi. And, if you buy cars like bmw, mercedes benz, and audi, you buy the name brand only. I'd purchased a 2010 BMW 750i Xdrive with just a little over 20k miles but you know what? It slept over the car dealer's service shop more than I had drove it. If you don't believe me I encourage you to go buy one and prove me wrong. In addition, I don't like TFL Car because they don't even disclosed the details of the car they only walk the straight line.

18 MPG on the Lexus? I would of thought it could do a little better. I get an average 17-18 mpg in my full sized 4x4 truck. Well only when I'm not pulling something and it tends to drop to about 14-15 during winter months for some reason. Good thorough review Gents. I wouldn't buy either of those but was entertaining to watch none the less

Think of it this way: Buy the Kia and get 100,000 miles worth of gas (at today's prices) for free.
@YAKYAKYAK
@YAKYAKYAK 10 лет назад
True but thats 100,000 miles in a Kia versus a Lexus. Pretty sure the Lexus will be more worthwhile once you include depreciation, maintenance, and overall enjoyment.
@michaelchang2930
@michaelchang2930 10 лет назад
Depreciation will be quite irrelevant by the time the car reaches 100k miles. At that kind of mileage for a luxury vehicle, both will be essentially worthless - in Canada, anyway.
@YAKYAKYAK

Kia K900 or Kia Quoris (European market) is not a Lexus LS direct competitor. It was meant to be a rival of BMW 5 series, MB E-Klasse Lexus GS and Audi A6. And i personaly think that second generation of K900 that will come out somewhere around 2020 will beat not only its direct rivals, but also be above all in its segment!

You obviously have not ever owned a lexus or a kia. I have owned both. and....... There is nothing in the Lexus that warrants a 30,000 premium. My K900 had BETTER leather than the lexus and it is not plastic, it is wood Not that it really matters.
@fbhfour

Interesting comment, given the Equus leather and is EXACTLY the same leather as that in the K900. Oh wait, the platform is the same. Hmmmm Confused Much ?
@fbhfour
@fbhfour 8 лет назад
Yes you are confused. YOU are the one that spoke to the leather quality vis a vis the Lexus. Lexus is a fine car, no doubt, but you go ahead and buy it, and I will pocket the 40,000 difference. Your arguments remind me of the arguments I heard when Lexus first hit the market, and was compared to Mercedes.

Like playing softball with my four year old. "Aniline leather is a type of leather dyed exclusively with soluble dyes without covering the surface with a topcoat paint or insoluble pigments. The resulting product retains the hide's natural surface with the 'grain', i.e. visible pores, scars etc. of the complete original animal's skin structure. Originally, the dyes used for this process were synthesized from aniline through chemical reactions.[citation needed] These dyes used to be called 'aniline dyes' or 'tar dyes'.[citation needed] In modern times, the dyes used are subject to laws and regulations in many countries, and the use of certain azo compounds is prohibited in the European Union as there are reasons to assume health risks.[1]" Now lets see what Lexus says.........straight from their own site. Lexus LS leather seats are made with top grain, vat dyed, automotive grade leather hides, and are finished in a European style, milled pebble. Our auto upholstery grade leather hides are thicker than most automotive leather hides and therefore hold a lot more of the moisture in to keep your leather seats soft and supple for years to come. SWWWWWINNNNNNG AND A MISS.
