Not all motorcyclists want a large displacement bike to race down the highway. The TU250 is designed for those of us who want a simple commuter bike for daily use. It has more than enough power to handle both local and highway traffic. It has got that classic universal Japanese motorcycle look with all the modern conveniences. Having a small displacement is not the bike's weakness but one of its appeals.

I actually like these smaller bikes aesthetic appeal.

I love the style, too. Just add a pair of clip-ons, and you have a cafe racer. Not all people are fat, either. I'm a small person, and 250cc is enough for me. Many of the riders, who talk about small bikes being for beginners, are out of shape and overweight, and that's why they need the additional horsepower. To me it would make more sense for people like that to go on a diet.

Couldn't agree more, especially when considering it as a bike for a new rider. Plenty of time to worry about power once you're got some miles under your belt. Until then, new riders just need something reasonable to learn on. Experienced riders should already know what to expect from a 249cc engine.

Greetings! What is the highest minimum speed limit in the United States? That is, on high-speed roads, what is the minimum speed limit you must go? Can the TU250X easily reach and exceed that limit? Could you ride this bike on those high-speed highways?

These are paid advertisements, made to look like homemade RU-vid videos. For that reason, they are trying to get you to buy a more expensive bike. It's a good video, and they make some good points; but you just have to take it with a grain of salt.

@mtube620

yes, I don't blame the bike (TU250) but the bike maker for making a 250cc when a 300/350 cc would fit the niche. Look at all entry sport bike, they all bumped the cc to 300 to 320cc from 250cc. 250cc is so passé. I just don't know why bike makers don't survey the public and see what they like and dislike first before assuming 250cc fit the mass appeal.
@hawkermustang
@hawkermustang 9 лет назад
***** I don't know if this is still the case, but in my state you have to be over 16 to ride a bike larger than a 250cc. So when I was a kid the 250 was the largest bike I could legally ride. Anyway, I think that helps to make 250cc popular. Once I was over 16 I wanted something much larger than a 250.
@hawkermustang
@hawkermustang 9 лет назад
***** Many teens want a new 250cc bike because that is the biggest bike they can ride by law. I really wanted a ninja 250 when I was a teen. So teens do like 250cc bikes because of US laws. And I hear 250cc bikes are the most popular in the world. Myself, after I was over 16 I bought a 600cc sport bike.

***** In my state those bikes are not legal for a kid under 16 to ride. Those 300's are fine, but they still need 250cc bikes in their lineup.

The fine Suzuki TU250 is a bike I am thinking of buying for myslef very soon. And, I am now 61, started riding motorcycles off road at 8, and have always ridden since that time. Where I live, and the fact that we don't ride two up any more, make me realize that the TU can do everything I need in a motorcycle. No freeways here. Top highway posted speed limits are 50-55 mph.I also like the S40, the Yamaha SR400, and the new Honda CB300F.
@captlarry-3525
@captlarry-3525 5 лет назад
If the TU fits you physically... it is ideal for your purpose. It will do long miles on the Freeway.. but mostly in the right lane, slowing on the steeper grades and with head winds on grades. It loves 2 lane roads at 55 -60 mph.. with plenty in reserve.
@tonupharry

The old ones have a restrictor to stop bike revving out. (No rev counter) Its a small wire gauze thingy that sits between inlet rubber and carb. Bike will get rough and vibrate around 70mph if its fitted. Without they smooth out and can hit 80mph.
@GabeChez
@GabeChez 9 лет назад
Gear to 16t. Cruises comfortably at 75mph, low vibration. Go up one size on the front tire for more braking, and comfort; you have a bulletproof small bike. WIth 19hp.

16T is great for flat landers who ride freeways a lot.Remove the snorkel ? why don't people understand that the airflow is Engineered.. and when you mess with it.. you mess with the whole power band, economy, usually make things a lot worse. this applies to both exhaust and intake.
@harrylime5147
@harrylime5147 5 лет назад
Gabe. When you said you remove the snorkel, was that a velocity stack that the air has to enter the airbox through? I have been advised by experts at a performance shop called “fours and more”not to ever modify an airbox in anyway. The science applied to the design of air boxes these days is the same technology used to develop airplane wings. At the time, I was having modifications done to the head of an FJ1200.The engineer told me that removing the stock airbox causes that machine to lose 6 hp between four and 7000 RPMs. When engineers designed and tuned these machines, they start about a foot before the intake trumpet on the airbox, and the end of the tuning is about 3 feet past the exit of the muffler. I know that a lot of sound that comes from a motorcycle or a car, is intake noise. Is it possible that removing that trumpet you mention just increases intake noise that the writer hears, giving the rider the impression that he’s done an improvement to airflow resulting in more power? I am curious. I do not yet own a tu250, .I have been looking for a few months and I just located a lo mileage one that I am about to buy. I have heard that a 16 to his kinder chef sprocket reduces RPMs, I understand that, but can the motor pool in top gear at high rpm in that tall of a gear with that sprocket? I have ridden machines that actually go faster in fifth gear than they do in sixth gear because they’re over geared. I don’t mind spinning the motor fast On my machines. But I do mind lugging that motor.. I am 220 pounds, and I wear about 10 pounds of gear, and I will have a tank bag it will be another 10 pounds, and I will put a 12 to 15 inch windshield on the machine, all my machines have fairings, I do not like all that wind and insects and rain hitting me at full speed if I don’t have to put up with it. So I don’t know if I will be going to a 16 tooth counter shaft sprocket, but I would like to know what you know about removing the trumpet, or horn? Is that an intake on the airbox you are talking about? And did you notice any real improvement other than hearing more intake roar???
@tonupharry
@tonupharry 7 месяцев назад
Ive messed around a lot with GN DR and TU250s . A cafe racer I built Without airbox, Pod filter low bars debaffled and careful jetting was able to hold 85mph regularily. Id only back off to 70 to 75mph because I didnt like riding at the red line for too long . Its a 250 , you dont spend much time on the idle jets like you will on a larger multi. Therefore if there is any loss at lower throttle settings its not noticeable . I assure you , these 250s can be real fun once allowed to breath a little bit .🇬🇧

when you buy a 250cc bike you want to know how reliable the bike is not compare with bigger faster bikes, we don't care about bigger or faster we only want to know about how does it handle, forget about faster, if we want faster we'll buy a ninja or something, stick to the review, the suzuki tu 250 is it reliable?

That is exactly what I was going to say. Why would you say insulting things about a 250cc bike? What people want to hear as you said,"Is it reliable, handling ect... sorry Suzuki, what does that mean? I suppose Suzuki cannot make a 250cc because it doesn't compare to the sr400, gsx 600r!! Whoever is considering purchasing this bike most likely is fully aware that a 250cc is half the power of as 500cc!! Let's get real,you are actually going to say sorry Suzuki but this 250cc you manufactured does not perform like the 650cc bike they make so back to the drawing board Suzuki!!
@captlarry-3525
@captlarry-3525 5 лет назад
Oh fuck yes ! There are examples with 60,000 plus miles on the original engine.. still running like they always did. It always starts no matter how hot or cold. It handles and brakes well, The engine is smooth, with wide range of torque, and good gear ratios. First is quite low, second still low, and 3-4-5 offer a wide range of gear choices ( at 55 you have a choice of 3 gears, at 65 you have a choice of 2.. with the stock primary sprocket.) Sealed battery and strong alternator, H4 halogen headlight .. make for some very good electrics. Fuel injection works flawlessly... with no flat spots at any rpm or fuel flow. I have traveled highways, interstates, fast two lanes, and mountain twisties, with the bike loaded with gear. Never ever skips a beat. I would say this has the makings of a good round the world bike. Ultimately, the suspension travel makes it a street bike... but people have rounded the globe on Honda step thrus. Simplicity, quality, and a very long engine history speak to this bikes .. "goodness" . Even with the factory bias ply tires, I found this bike to be extremely secure when pushed hard into corners while touring unfamiliar roads. By the standard of utility and touring bikes.. the brakes are very good. The low first gear makes this bike very able if you ride two up or heavily laden ( long distance travel) and encounter a start on a hill, or need to crawl along. top 2 gears are overdrive... so you wont be flogging this engine even at 65. I am 220 lbs, I ride with just one click up on the rear shock tensioner... and I ride hard when I need to,,, so that speaks to the quality of the damping and springs. Many tire choices. I have two TU's one with factory tires and 15T primary sprocket.. and one with 1 size larger rear tire and 16T front sprocket. Both good. the 30-40 mph range in the twisties has me shifting too often with 16 teeth.. the stock 15T gearing is better.. but for much high speed running on freeways.. 16T is nicer ..and still good on faster 2 lane roads. If you keep good oil and clean filters in it.. it is going to take you where you want to go.. and you wont have to think about it. Just go. The induction, exhaust, fuel system is engineered to work to perfection. Don't mess this up with aftermarket exhausts.. unless you can find a real tuner to re-map your fuel injection. Why make a jewel into a piece of crap that way ? ! Honda and Kawasaki make 250's with almost twice the HP.. and they are cheap.. so if you want what they offer.. get them. If you want a standard that will last.. and it feels right and works for you.. Get This ! I hate the 2 piece seat for long rides. sorry

Oh enough with the BS, guys! it's not a racing bike. it's a simple, air-cooled, easy to work on Japanese single that gets you around town and on the highway if you stay on the right lane and don't push it. I had a 250cc Honda CBF a few years ago, that thing barely pulled above 100 KPH (60 MPH) but I still did 300-400 KM trips in one day on it, many of whom were on highways...so everything is possible!

Ditto for my old, classic 2-stroke 50cc HONDA MB5. It is tons of fun to ride a smaller displacement bike at it's limits, and to keep the revs up, shifting constantly!

What does that first woman that said it had good suspension mean when she said it had good suspension? Would you please explain? I appreciate hearing facts from experts, but could she be a little more specific? Was she referring to spring rates, rebound and compression compliance? Balance in the system between the front and the rear spring rates? Damping balance between front and rear? Frontend dive under very hard braking? The machines ability to track and stay on line through bumpy corners? Does the suspension recover quickly between ripples in those bumpy corners? She says the machine is slow, sorry Suzuki? But what is she spinning the motor in its past power range? or was she opening the throttle at low rpm’s at the base of a big hill in too tall of a gear?? Is she an accomplished rider? I don’t mean someone that can get on the machine and go from point A to point B without falling over. I mean someone that understands that a low horsepower machine can still be ridden briskly if you maintain momentum by staying off the brakes and picking perfect lines through the corners, being in the correct gear, keeping the motor spinning near its peak power band?? I have ridden hundreds of machines. I have more fun on a smaller machine that I can ring its neck than I do on 150 horse power machines that you can’t even come close to using even half of the power all the time. It is not a challenge to go fast on a big hp machine.. But on a small displacement machine, that takes real skill To go fast. Someone that complains that the machine is too slow, doesn’t realize it’s not the machine thats slow, it’s the rider. A smaller displacement machine takes a little bit longer to wind it Up yes, The fun part comes in by keeping it up to speed which takes real skill. Now in order to go fast on a small machine, you need to have good suspension, good brakes, good ground clearance, a transmission ratio that is complemented by a power band that won’t drop off every time you Upshift to the next gear.. you also need a good easy to operate clutch on a smaller machine to get that motor spinning when it needs help at lower RPMs. It would be nice if the machine had a tachometer. The factory does not pick a redline out of a hat. The factory states what the maximum safe rpm to operate that machine is, and with a tachometer, you could keep the TU 250 at or near it’s safe maximum RPM without damaging the motor when needed. I have found that smaller engines tend to not make enough power to really damage themselves at high rpm’s under load, so I tend to just ring their necks Until they stop pulling, and then shift up. I’m sure the owners manual has a guideline on miles per hour to operate the engine in each gear safely, but a tachometer is more useful.But after a few short rides, you will develop a feel for when the motors tongue starts hanging out and it’s time to upshift... These testimonials in these videos from tokens have no value.

If you need more power, buy a Honda CBR 250 or 300 or a Kawasaki Ninja 250 or 300. . You do need more power if you feel the need to pass vehicles going up hill on the freeway or fast 2 lane roads. or If dropping down to 60 mph in 4th climbing steep grades with headwinds bothers you. If you don't.. but you do need a really settled, uncomplicated, hyper reliable small bike, with excellent lights, economy, and secure handling.. in a light low seat height package... that will last many decades, prove to be very cheap and simple to maintain yourself.. and if it FITS you. the TU-250x is a great choice. The longevity of the bike may prove to be astounding for a small single. It you are 6 feet tall.. keep looking. When my BMW is too much trouble to get out or horse around in parking lots .. this bike was always my choice. When I needed to down size to a lighter smaller bike.. I was glad I had chosen this. It is really in its element on fast (or slow) two lane roads.. for freeway riding.. go with the 16 Tooth front sprocket.. to pick up 5 mph top speed, and lower reves at 65-70..and increase the usuable speed in 4th up steep grades into the wind. Otherwise, the 15 Tooth primary and Suzukis gear ratios are just right. Riding 2 up.. stick with 15T.

I like this bike. But I can't ride it because Suzuki messed up so bad on the seat. WHY, oh WHY, couldn't they have put a flat one piece seat on it? I have to sit right between the 2 seats, and it is extremely uncomfortable. I really like the SR400, but it is just too expensive for me, and also too expensive for what it is. It's a smaller version of a bike that came out in 1978, and they cheapened it by using tube type tires. I might be willing to pay $6K for it if it were a 500cc with tubeless tires. Don't even think about buying a Royal Enfield. I got scammed big time on one of those pieces of junk. $6K OTD for a 2013 B5 Bullet, and it literally fell apart on me. Everybody on the Enfield forum is having serious problems with their UCE bikes, including broken frames and rear brakes that just lock up by themselves.

I like the looks of the TU250, but that's about it. At 6'1" 240 pounds, I don't fit on it. It has EFI, which I don't like. It can be ridden on the freeway, but only in the right lane and only at full throttle. I don't know how long it would last doing that. I do know a couple of Honda 250 Rebels that passed 80,000 miles at full throttle riding before they began to eat their valves. But those were twins. It also has tube type tires, and no centerstand, so you are out of luck if you have a flat. And it just has a tiny bike feel and sound. If you feel lucky about not having a flat, it could be used as a commuter bike, it's about as reliable as it's cheap electronic fuel injection system, which will cost a fortune to fix when it fails. Both ethanol gas and running out of gas tend to damage $500 fuel pumps. Give me a carb any day.

vulcan1753. I agree. I bought a Nighthawk 250 instead of the TU for my daughter,and for me when just going on a down to town errand ride or a 100 mile mountain loop ride, instead of bringing out the big bike that eats gas. Twin, air cooled, and a carb. 95mpg and it is Honda reliable. A little easier on the maintenance wallet. Fuel cost is negligible. Insurance is nearly free. Wire wheels look pretty but I wish it had tubeless tires like it's brothers in Europe, no flat yet though.

My choice over an 883 Sporty ANY day! ("The ultimate bitch bike") And I'm sure Ana and Melissa would say the same (they're CLEARLY not bitches!) And 883's, although boasting a higher displacement and price tag are FAR less sophisticated bikes.

Hell, I can vouch for that. I used to own a '11 Sporty 883, but now I ride a '82 SR500 and have a LOT more fun! Had a good blast with the TU250 in Hawaii a couple of months ago, too. No more Harleys here, that's for sure.

The SR-400 is a high quality bike with a bigger engine.. The Enfield is a cobby antique piece of shit.. with fancy paint.. that will never be reliable, rideable for any distance. The tux is a push a button and go jewell, that will be just that 30 or 40 years from now.

I own 2.. ride them hard, am not small, and I have yet to find any sloppiness in the handling. If the bike is properly set up, with broken in tires.. it is secure, well planted and utterly predictable. It has bias ply tires, and it is not a superbike.. But is makes the bikes sold in the 60's, 70's and 80's in this class look like real shit. Compared to a touring or UJM type bike.. it handles very well, and continues to do this when heavily loaded . The caveat is that the intended top speed of this bike is about 75mph. and the normal running speeds will generally be 65-70 mph.. They handle grooved roads and other bad surfaces securely.
