Pagulayan's break at 1:38:00 Absolute money. He played in Ottawa a bunch of times. Never got to see him play personally, but heard tons of stories about him. One of the very best.
They often rack the nine on the right end of the third row and it comes to rest at the left rail below the side pocket where it is a perfect connector to the ten which is usually still in the rack area.
This would be entertaining on a 9 or 10 foot table. I love rotation pool but I don't enjoy watching it played on a 7 foot table. I like the FargoRate realtime odds though.
Didn't SVB foul in the third rack when he measured space between the 10ball and the rail. I'm sure he never intended to put the cueball that close to the 2ball, he actually first checked and then moved it back a bit before deciding to go another route. It was like in Mosconi Cup apart from the fact that Karl then actually wanted to place the ball and not checking the space.
+Chris Russwurm ok, I'm not very knowledgeable about pool but I thought that rule always is in effect. Hopefully I'll get into a beginners course at my nearest pool club in Karlskoga, Sweden. Then I'll ask the instructor a LOT of questions 😀👍
+Chris Russwurm, I've searched for more info and found an answer at this URL: en.allexperts.com/q/Pool-Billiards-2283/2012/7/wpa-measuring-device.htm As i can understand from that conversation the WPA rules kicks in with the rule about equipment, and therefore a cueball can´t be used as a measuring device. Nerdy to dig in this I know, but I'm always keen to know proper rules even though I am just a novice. Just to be safe I will never try using the CB to measure anything.
I am always grateful to be able to see these matches... however, the US OPEN on 7 foot tables just doesn't seem right, I know the players are grateful to just play..., but to me professional pool is on 9foot or 10 foot tables... not bar boxes even if they are smart tables... I understand there is a cost there that is probably more than can be afforded. It is a business... but one of the exciting things about watching the pros play, is that they play on equipment not generally available to a lot of players, and they execute shots on those tables that we normally can't do. Its just not as exciting to watch the two best modern pool players go at it on a 7 footer...
the phenomenon of "professional" bar table events is just a testament to the sorry state of professional pool. bar table events attract players who would otherwise never think about entering a professional event, and as a result the playing fields are bigger with bigger payouts
Hunche Mlnarik alot of players like mixing it up . Why do so many fans cry over everything lol.. bar boxes present a different challenge like clusters and more strategy expecislly 8 ball .. to me 9 footers are less exiting cause its all wide open green
To the technical coordinator at CueSports International: I really enjoy the high-quality footage... but for the sake of my poor eyeballs... PLEASE de-interlace or render the footage to a progressive format. I can't take looking at the scan lines every time something moves. Looks perfectly crisp... until there is movement anywhere in the frame.
Heya Zephyr, Interlaced video footage is a vestige of standard-definition television broadcasts... and it involves actually splitting each frame of video into two separate "fields." Each field is divided into "odd" and "even" lines. This happens pretty quickly... The problem is that interlaced footage is meant more for old-school CRT displays (the interior of the screen is actually coated in phosphor, which sort of tricks our eyes into seeing a continuous stream of frames). The issue I'm having with this video is that it's been rendered to an interlaced format (i.e. 1080i) and when its uploaded, RU-vid actually ENCODES the visible scan lines (RU-vid expects progressive video). The end result is that scan lines (indicative of interlaced footage) are then visible, in particular when something moves. Check out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlaced_video en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathode_ray_tube#Phosphor_persistence Likewise, seems like it has been fixed since I watched it initially... about a year ago... I don't see the scan lines now.
yeah, i have a lot of issues with this broadcast, especially the sound. the embarrassing part is that all the issues here could be fixed by anyone who took even just one year in college.
Both of these men came into my local pool room and left with there pockets empty I pretend to have down syndrome then I hustle them it's almost to easy lol
+Kevin Seymoure Judging by the cue nearly touching end to end, it is a 7 footer. No idea why they play anything on a 7 footer. They rarely miss on 9 footers.
+no no probably more cue ball control involed on 7ft table since it's hard to get the balls spread out in a smaller space. I like watching 8-ball played on a 7ft since the balls are more clustered together.
+djhyr0 Well they have nearly perfect control of the cue ball, so that is not much of an issue. Yes more clusters and traffic, but not a big problem. Distance on really hard shots to pocket or safe is more of an issue for the top players. The extra distance put more pressure on than the traffic.
+no no its about the money. Large pro tournaments are very expensive to put on. The tables, the lighting, the seating, venue....etc. It's more cost effective to use 7ft tables.
Other than they may be able to squeeze in a few more tables in some venues, I do not see how it saves them a lot of money. In exchange for that savings, they have a lessor event, in my mind.
ever play on a 6 x 12 snooker table? pockets are smaller, balls are smaller,... there was one in one pool room I worked in. you never see them any more. those are tough.
Kathy Keegan there's a room here in Houston that had a 12 foot snooker table. We would play 9 ball ring games with like 6/8 players at 20 on the 5 and 50 on the 9. And yeah with those rounded tiny ass cushions it was brutal
Completely agreed. Why have professionals shooting on the absolute easiest tables to play on. Its like watching golfers only playing on 9 easy holes as long as it isnt windy.
That guy Kens Dry mouth sound is soo annoying and gross sounding. I’ve heard it in so many of his commentary. He makes that sound and it’s all I can hear when he speaks. Wish he’d do something about it cuz his insight is so good. I can’t be the only one who thinks that sound is terrible.
You guys are cry babys period .. everyone isnt perfect why degrade people because they don't do every little thing u think they should i mean come on .. i never once thought of how the man sounded i was enjoying world class pool not being a snowflake
10-ball is great on 9' foot tables. And it's great on 7' bar boxes. Elite players don't whine about such trivial shit. They just get on with it and put their excellent pool playing skills to use.
Actually elite players do whine about it, I know several personally and none of them think they should have high level events on 7 footers. They just play on them because that is what they are offered to play on in the tournaments. Personally, I skip any video with a 7 footer like this even with great players in it. The only people that are OK with 7 footers or want to promote 7 footers as pro tournament level equipment are the pool hall owners and promoters. Cheaper, more tables to fit in a space. It's just a business decision not based on how the pro game should be played.
Ken!!! I have to mute your commentary on EVERY video. I'm not trying to be mean, but maybe no one else has the courtesy to tell you. Your pasty mouth noise makes hearing your commentary unbearable.
Those who are in the booth (IMO) should just comment about what is happening, not what they would do or not do. I like the matches from the U.K. - World Cup of Pool and such as the commentators are more in tune with what they are there for in the first place.
I agree wholeheartedly, they are supposed to report what is going on... it ridiculous to listen to this all the way through... just just the most unprofessional display of commentating...
Lavala...correct! Too much supposition, and redundant speculation. Improving the sound, (closer to mike) , and minimizing comments on EVERY shot would be nice!Ken seems more like a weather 'forecaster' than a commentator. Annoying.
You're referring to 1:17:11 I assume. If you watch closely the cue hits around the third diamond and then again an inch from the side pocket. It's a bang bang hit and somewhat hard to see, but in order for it to be a foul the cue would have been following the object ball or just simply have stopped after contact.
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm new to the sport. Can anyone explain why van Boeing loses when he misses the 9 ball at the end? Did he just forfeit because he thought pagulayan would likely make those last two?
The commentators, or one of them, whispers in a low, slightly hoarse voice. Is he afraid the players can hear him? Why doesn't he talk in a normal tone of voice? To put it in mild language, that's not nice.
Shane said among Filipinos Warren Kiamco is easy to beat but against Alex he has hard time winning. Shane always beat Kuo Po Cheng and Kuo never beat Shane. But if Kuo will be lucky he can whoop the ass of Shane on the table!
+Kerry Begin I agree it was foul. (wasn`t rail touching after balls contact) Shane could be more attentive to game of opponent. But he did good safety after opponent foul. If gesture of Alex after his foul was a confession, It could be more clear.
And who are YOU to talk about how Earl's game is slipping? He's 50 something but still runs and works out, he's constantly improving. What are you doing? Talking about him behind his back in a booth?
The benefits of having consistently tight racks for better breaks easily outweighs any negatives of the magic rack. That's why it is used worldwide in major tournaments.
Chad Quinn you have no room to talk if you don't even know what the magic rack is called and clearly have never played it with or know how consistently tight the racks are used with it so stfu
Jon Way damn bro you defending this thing like you invented it lol. I was just stating my opinion, but I bet in your world your opinion is all that matters right. I still think the "magic rack" sucks.
At 01:17 Alex hit the one ball off the second rail but didn't contact a rail after hitting it? That's not a legal hit and Shane should have had ball in hand?
Alex knew and didn't confess. I lost allot of respect for him

Get rid od the stupid commentators, and get real pool players to deliver these matches. Especially the old cowardly man - who has never played for money.
omg get this dude off the mic..i picture an old man sucking his dentures clean with a touch of old man spit on his lip. had to quit watching after 30 seconds
This is the worst commentary ive ever heard during a pool match. So freaking annoying and that sound that one of yall makes that sounds like youre sucking on a life saver but it is worse than fingernails on a chalkboard. The constant arguing about what the player is gonna do if i didnt have mute id jump outta my truck before i could stand it. Sorry dude yall need to find a different job. This is the first time in my 40 yrs of living have i ever said that. Seriously man stop!
You can tell they're old by the distinct sound they make while playing with their dentures. Then the guys dry mouth is f$# annoying. Need new commentators.
