On my 2015 TDI Passat I was able to replace the alternator by just taking off the fans. It's 4 torx screws and an electrical connection, and you can remove it from the bottom. That gave me enough room alone to remove the alternator from the bottom. I also unbolted the AC compressor and removed the passenger side inner fender well.
@@syedalam3513 I removed only the radiator fans, The passenger side inner fender well plastic. Also, I unbolted the AC compressor, only the three bolts and let it hang on the lines. That will give you enough room to work it out from the bottom
Sorry so long on reply, I don’t get notifications on my email for some reason. This car has been fabulous. I would definitely say the best car choices of today. Granted, there is a lot of cheap plastic stuff but that goes with the territory these days. This car being a standard transmission has really outperformed itself. The best thing that we did was deleting it. The mileage went from around 700 ish per tank up 926 per tank and a lot more power after the delete. As far as things that have gone wrong with it seems to be the standard stuff like blend door actuator, Heater core because of the design, brakes once , head lights burn out one at a time for some reason. Probably the 4th set installed, clutch kit once , the clutch switch for the AC pump. These don’t have a clutch pulley, the injector for the add blue exploded which I’m sure was from it freezing with the car being in North Dakota winters, Tie rods are just now worn and need replaced. The third timing belt kit which still looked great after 150k on it. Car runs like a top at now 350k.
Just thought of one more problem. This was kind of a cheap fix but very important to make sure you check it out service it at some interval. It’s your cable for your hood release. There is a flaw in the design that many people don’t know about until it’s too late. I was fortunate enough that when mine broke my front bumper was already severely jacked up from a raccoon that was hit, and a big section of it was missing. The cable is a two part cable that has a junction right over your headlight on the driver side and it’s tucked underneath a metal hold down that holds your head light , if you feel your hood latch release a little different than normal. It’s time to change it. The two cables are joined together with a plastic piece and one side winds up, stripping out rendering your hood latch useless the way your front bumper and grill bolt up. Your hood Has to be open to take them off. With my bumper jacked up, I was able to cut the sheathing on the cable and grabbing the cable itself with a pair of pliers and pulling it and releasing the hood. This would’ve been next to impossible if my front end wasn’t jacked up at the time. There’s a video on RU-vid but that car had to be a different year because that didn’t work on my car. Make sure you’re using some kind of dry graphite spray to keep it lubed up and clean. when in doubt change it. I was even thinking about making my hood release underneath my car instead of inside my car. This is a very stupid design.
We got it from O’roily’s auto parts. It was the OEM remand $400 and change I believe. They gave me the wrong one at first from a 04’ which looks exactly the same except the offset on the pulley was different .
Another way to do this job may let you skip a few of these steps. You will have to support the car up and have a jack underneath the motor on the one side where the alternator is. Removing your motor mount from the one side just like you do when you do your timing belt. You can then control the motor with the jack lifting it or lowering it, whichever way would make it easier. You wouldn’t think your motor would drop or raise enough. But when you remove your motor mount from that one side, your motor can move a lot with the jack.
@@joe_outsideFirst I removed the radiator cooler fans, 4 screws and electrical connection, it was possible to lift them upwards on my car. Then I drained the radiator coolant fluid from the water radiator and loosen the water tubes. After that it removed 4 screws for the radiator and then I lifted up the radiator. Then I started to work on the generator.
