I have had my 2016 TTS for 2 months now.... I love it! I love the engine sound being amplified into the cockpit... It is fast and nimble... Has all the comforts and styling so expected in an Audi. Great car!

This is the only review I've seen which says there isn't much difference between the base model and the TTS, i have just bought a TTS and I've had 2 base models, and trust me i can tell you there is a HUGE difference. 0 - 60 times for the traffic light Olympics and motorway overtaking makes this a totally different animal to live with

TTS versus Corvette? Do they make a Corvette that I can drive through a Snowstorm with a lawnmower in the trunk?

With the visual trick going on in the interior, I think a sunroof would disrupt that. Any car that I've been in that can have a sunroof, I've noted fed that the cars without them seem to have way more headroom. To answer your question, if I was looking for a car luxury(upscale) sports car, I'd probably get an M2, 4C, or Cayman. Out of these three choices, I'd most likely choose the bimmer primarily because there is a lot (will be a lot) of aftermarket support for the car, and it already comes with more power than the other cars including the tt-s. Yes, the interior is kind of crappy, but that wouldn't matter to me too much since I'd likely swap out a lot of the parts like the seats for aftermarket parts. I live in the Midwest.

*currently drive a 335xi with basically the same motor as the M2 so maybe I'm biased haha. But I've always wanted to know how my car would drive if it were lighter. 400lbs lighter. And a better top end.

58k. I'd get the TT. I live in Detroit and you can drive a Corvette in Detroit 5 months out of the year. No one drives their Vette in January. It's RWD and doesn't get the greatest traction. The TT is AWD and is a much more capable winter car that's also a sports car in the summer.

The Germans are just not going to compute the whole sunroof thing. That's because they have a Roadster version of this car. The idea that you would want a coupe with a sunroof and not the Roadster will just baffle their logical way of thinking. What I want is a day to day sports car. The BMW M-series isn't that, the Porsche certainly isn't and a Corvette doesn't mean very much to me, but I am sure would do to other people, no disrespect to the brand. The TTS is an every day sports car and that's what I love about it.

At $58k, I'd wait for the new Infiniti Q60 Red Sport. RWD, Twin Turbo, 400HP, Sounds like like a winning package. I will say though, the only thing the Red Sport is missing is a proper manual transmission. If that were to be an option, it would truly be a winner.

You can't have a sunroof for 1 reason, the US government. They would have to crash test a s unroof equipped car plus one like the one you are driving. In closing I'd buy this car for my wife. Nice review, thanks.

I would buy a used Porsche Cayman GTS I currently drive a 2005 Chevy Corvette C6 Z51 and love it but I think I would be willing to sacrifice some horsepower for less weight and mid engine and handling characteristics. The AWD of the TTS is appealing but with 20” tires and low ground clearance it kind of negates snow practicality but I’m sure it’s also great to drive never personally driven one but I prefer a manual transmission I don’t know if the Audi offers that...

For 58K I'm not picking a TT-S - I'm getting a Corvette or an M2 - both of which are more powerful and have much better driving dynamics. Hell, there's a strong likelihood of an Alfa 4C at that price. I appreciate the progress Audi's making on the TT, but I don't appreciate the progress they're simultaneously making on the price. I'm in the US and currently drive a Z4 35i.

Why does the TT stick with that horrible petrol cap. It reminds me of a 1990s Halfords (or insert cheap aftermarket car store) parts bin. I'd want a different petrol cap and glass pano roof. But still at around $58 /£41k I'd be looking elsewhere. Maybe. Well 40k seems OK tbh, but I bet it doesn't sell for £40k by the time it gets here. I'd still go 3yo something else for half the price.

I got rid of a 2018 Camaro ZL1 and got a 2019 Audi TTS and did an APR stage 1 flash. I have taken both to the track. The TTS has made the Camaro look so bad that I regret ever buying the Chevy. At autocross, my TTS beat every car there except the two open wheel racers. I beat the C6R's with race slicks, Porsche's..., everybody. And I was on stock tires where many of them were on slicks. They are still fighting over me a week later.... The TTS is no joke. Oh and for reference, I have a 2017 GTI Sport with 10k of race mods on it. The TTS smoked that car too...

I would choose the Audi TTS all day long! beautiful car, that's not too flashy but not too conservative. Modern interior design, with that amazing virtual cockpit, basically 30% of the reason why I would want one. I live in both Germany (stuttgart) and Norway (oslo), spend most time in Oslo where I don't need a car though.

+Marius these questions are not for us europeans because here, the situation is reversed, here they are the imports and the price situation is reversed, so here they ask insane prices, specially when they still use 6.0 cc or above, since we dind t invaded Iraque, we can t afford those fuel black holes.

Marius what i mean is that when american reviewers make these questions of what would you buy and bring up price, its not for european consumers. in Europe, american cars are the imports so they are the one costing much more. plus they also tend to forget to talk about hat the car actually brings but thats another story
@MBvolcom92

Bought the Arctic White 2016 Audi TTS Quattro. Love it. The interior is fabulous. Simple and to the point, with clever A/C vents and operation. The dynamic mode is fun. There is something about suitability for age of the driver that bears commenting. We have all seen the 65 year old lady in a tricked out Camaro and the 20 year old in the Escapade. Both are out of place. I am 61, just grey enough up top - and the Audi TTS screams success and class. Heads turn for the right reason. All my friends love it, and would not drive the corvette, or unbutton their shirt and buy a gold chain to look good in one. 😎

Interesting point about the Corvette being around the same price. I recently tested a 2019 Corvette, and even though it's a big, wide sports car, the interior felt very tight and a bit claustrophobic to me. Then I test drove a TT. Sure, it didn't have the power of the Corvette, or the manual, which sucks, but the engine was responsive and sounded good. But surprisingly it felt much more open inside and not claustrophobic at all. Also, the TT/S is very rare in the US, where the Corvettes and other American muscle are a dime a dozen. So in short, it may not be the best sports car at anything, but it's very competent, comfortable and easy to live with. I'd still prefer a manual though. Audi, are you listening? UPDATE: While considering the Audi TTS, I stumbled upon a used 2018 TTRS with only 5k miles on it. After owning it now for almost 2 years, I can say that the TTRS is a completely different animal than the TTS. Not only is it substantially quicker, it sounds substantially better, handles AND rides even better. I found that in Dynamic mode the TTRS Magride suspension somehow manages to be a bit more supple. RS tuning perhaps. And I got it for about the price of a new TTS, which only made it a sweeter deal. After adding a stage 1 ECU and TCU tune and a Haldex tune (which sends power to the rear much quicker than stock), this car is an absolute riot to drive. If it only had a manual.....

I chose my TTS for its Bauhaus design. I chose my TT>S< for its performance. Plus, I got it in Sapang Blue, so it changes from electric blue to indigo depending on the light. So, it's all about the aesthetics. And the 20" wheels are the best ride in dynamic, and passengers do not approve.
@WillAbernatha
@WillAbernatha 4 года назад
I agree. I have an Audi TTS. It's wonderful on the road. It's not a track car. I've been considering a Miata/Spider or old Boxster just for that. My TTS is happily my daily driver.

I’m a manual (stick) driver but driving that way is now painful in the Bay Area. So I appreciate that I can drive comfort mode in traffic and dynamic/manual mode on back roads. Enjoying it and I believe my 3-pedal days are done. I chose the TTS because everyone out here has a BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Corvette, etc.

@eyros2k
@eyros2k 8 лет назад
The TT certainly seems to sit in a niche of Audi's own creation. 'Direct competition' pits this AWD coupe against RWD hard-top convertibles... which is quite the apple and oranges scenario isn't it? For the money then, ($58k, new vehicle, delivered, MSRP, before tax) buys one a fully specced TTS or z4 28i, or essentially bare versions of the SLK300, Corvette, 4C, Cayman and Boxster. If I had to make such a decision my money would likely go toward the C7. Quattro ends up being a deterrent, with no nasty weather to speak of that extra differential just adds complexity and robs efficiency. Both the BMW and Mercedes, despite my love for their styling inside and out, are slotted with engines that - in this price range - just don't match ones expectations. Finally, unsurprisingly, the Alfa and Porsche alike are just too void of amenities at base configuration. In spite of hauling a V8, being a foot longer, nearly two inches wider the Corvette only weights some 140lbs more than the Audi yet manages to produce 163 more horsepower, be more efficient on the highway (EPA claimed). It doesn't hurt that it can be slotted with a manual transmission either...

Taking delivery of one tomorrow for my wife. Best blend of performance and luxury we could find at that price point. She is also dead set against another manual after I put a six puck in the FRS. The motor improvements that come with the S model (Golf R) create huge additional tuning thresholds thanks to lower compression and stronger internals.

I live in the US and currently have a 2015 Mini Cooper S. If I was leasing I would get a BMW M2 but if I was buying I would pick the Audi. The main difference is that if i had the TTS I would do a simple tune and exhause from APR that would end up making this car about as fast as base Corvette all with the more friendly awd needed in states like Colorado where I live.

Yes. I agree about a glass moonroof option like the Jaguar F-Type. I’ve been saying this for years. Thank you for saying it. I bought a Volkswagen Eos with the intention of having it as a hand-me-down car for my son, but these millennials don’t seem to be interested in cars (or at least mine isn’t). I don’t really blame them with today’s urban congestion. My 987.2 Boxster S got recycled into a third year of private college. I loved the gen I TT. It came in some great colors. I met the most interesting guy at the Audi store (less than two miles from Elon’s toybox). He’s brilliant, and we’ve been talking Audis since February. I think I finally configured a TTS to my liking. We’ll see.

If i had to choose again, I would still stick to my TTS. I know its expensive as all get out for what it is, but it does exactly what I need it to. It is pretty fast yet comfortable, as the video above demonstrates. It is very practical for a sports car, since I can get all of my stuff to and from school without issue. And in my opinion it looks great too. I know I could get a Corvette for the same amount of cash, but here in Michigan the 4wd is a necessity since Winter didn't end until this week.

Car's a little soulless maybe, but because 4WD paired with a dual clutch they recorded a 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. Four-point-two! A car with less than 300 horsepower is hardly behind a Corvette. Obviously it wouldn't keep with the V8 to 100, but nevertheless very impressive engineering from Audi. Can't wait to see what the 2.5L I5 TT RS can do.

sunroof literally equals less headroom, sometimes up to 1.5 inches or more in some cases. and every single dealer would order one with a sunroof, GUARANTEED. Because it gives the dealer a bit more markup and profit, all(80%+) would have a sunroof. so basically every guy that is over 6 foot 1 inch, or people with a tall torso would not fit in the TT and would have to travel, order, or compromise in the TT that they would want, like color choice, options, etc... just so they will fit in it. perfect example would be the 2014-2017 Chevrolet SS sedan, go ahead and find one without a sunroof... no go find one of those with a manual transmission... in the color you want.... haha, cant find one eh? not to dislike this video, good review as always though. just stop pushing for sunroofs, us tall people cant fit.. lol

I absolutely adore the TTs but for that amount of money: I would buy a Mustang 5.0 convertible, ATS Coupe V6 or one of dodge's Scat Pack, Simply because that is a big amount of money for a small car and I like to carry more friends. Saudi Arabia. Current car 2015 Challenger R/T 5.7 Abdallah.

I would not subsidize the German Socialistic Economy and buy a Ford Mustang or Chevy Camaro. Way more car, was less money($20000) and a sunroof. Save more money, have more fun and get a manual transmission if you want.

What would I buy with the money? Bearing in mind I'm talking 'local currency' (NZD) - Audi TTS $125k, Porsche Cayman $124k, Jaguar F-Type $125k. I'd probably be picking the Jag, just for looks (yes I know it's slower than the TTS).

For 58k, not on your life. but now that 2016's are hovering close to 40k, its interesting, especially when you consider the tuning options for this car. I currently have a 2015 M4 but I'm looking for something fun that can handle Chicago winters better than my M4 and the TT backseat can still fit my 7 year old. I'll look at the TTS but I'm already leaning towards a used M235 xdrive

Audi TTs spits out 292 HP on the dot. But because this is a VW family, HP drops from 292 to 200. ECU has a program where it know when the car is moving and when it is really moving.

I was looking at this TTS, but ended up buying a 2012 R8 V10 with a manual. Now this TTS looks womanly in comparison.

I'll take a mercedes c450 or wait for the new audi s4! I'm planning on buying a c63s coupe when it comes out in a few months! how would you compare it to the competitions? M4, RCF.. and I chose the c450 and new s4 over the tts because of sunroof and the 6 cylinder AND back seat room.. I know the change the internals but for that price I would want the 6 cylinder in the c450 and new audi s4

I'm driving an Audi A4 (2.0L TFSi 180bhp) and for that kind of money I'd rather have a Porsche Boxster (new or used with under 5k miles), but yeah, not very practical.

Dear Mr. M. I was looking at the TT 2016 @ 20K with only 44K miles. I thought the price was nice, even the color Black on black "but" no sun roof. "DAMN. Damn, damn."

In Australia the TTS costs the equivalent of US$90K. An M2 with DCT is US$80K, which is what I would probably choose. I currently drive a one week old MX5 and in spite of its low cost it is the most fun car I have owned.

In my country, there are taxes based on the displacement of the engine, so the rivals for the TTS (M235i, F Type, SLK350,Corvette etc) are 20-100% more expensive here.

I ordered an RS5 which should arrive by the end of the month. I traded my 2016 RS3 for it. I plan on getting a 2018 TTS for the wife or possibly a TT RS. We shall see.

I drive a 2013 S4. For 52K, I'd buy an S3 but I'd be curious to see if I could get into a Jaguar XE for that money. Those look like a hoot to drive.

For the same money as this I would never choose a Corvette. For similar money I'd go with a Cayman S or a Boxster S. I need AWD so the Corvette would be useless.

MM, my choice would definitely be the Corvette for the money. The Vette is a super bang for the buck... and American made. As you know, I live in Southern CA (40 years in November). The Audi is nice but the Vette is the best buy for the buck, in my opinion.

I like your patriotic thinking. When I went to the US on holiday, myself and my friend insisted on hiring an all-American car rather than the Asian ones we were originally offered (we're British btw) and we hired a Chevy. We felt great about this until we later googled the model. It was designed in Australia, built in South America and its main parts were Korean. The only thing American was the badge. Still, it was the next best thing and I cannot wait to visit America again. 🇬🇧🇺🇸

+Chiro Videos TV When I was a kid in the 50's-60's (born in 1946), our family had businesses such as junkyards, glass/seatcover stores, and an early speed shop in one of our junkyards. I was raised around American Iron. I currently own a 1967 Pontiac GTO (big engine, mid-sized car) which is a hot rod from the past. I love American Iron (cars). I have traveled the globe but still prefer what we have built here not just for patriotic reasons. Despite being a globe traveler, I have yet to go to Great Britain. We started to go last year (my wife, an author, was to give a talk) but it was too expensive. We might do it yet.

+Howard Salsitz, J.D. Interesting story and I get where you are coming from. I'd love to be proud of the UK's current motor industry, but most of it is now German! Yes, come over - end of September is a bit cheaper for flights and hotels as you can imagine, and thanks to global warming it's often still quite mild! So much to see here but might be worth including a cheeky trip East to France or West to Ireland while you're over. Avis good for car hire.

+Chiro Videos TV Thanks. I was in France while in the Navy. Stopped there in 1965; Marseilles. Would love to see Paris but too much danger. Ireland sounds cool. Just drove a Lamborghini this morning. Gift from older daughter. Interesting. Oh, looked at your website. My wife's first husband is/was a Chiro. He's retired now (health issues). Myself, law but haven't practiced. Do art materials sales now. Okay to email me at howard@salsitz.com if you wish. If not, that's fine, too.

+Alexander Schlesinger yeah totally agree. Am really sick of the VW group's philosophy and engine choices across VW, Skoda, Seat and Audi. None of them compete with one another and some of them are really great cars (chasis) with crap engines because VW doesn't want those other VW group cars competing with Audi. But most Audis are overrated imo especially the TT range.

2017 Camaro 1LE, not out yet but it's got mag suspension and higher insurance premiums which after a while still still cost less than the TTS after its first service I bet.
