This 2016 bmw s1000xr is a HOT ROD in all regards. Take the BMW literbike and combine it with adventure DNA - you get this beast. An absolute pleasure to ride, this engine just SCREAMS with seamless power and performance. Both due to the silky smooth power delivery, gaining in strength as you climbing the RPMs - and because of the video game slick quick shifter. There is no blip, no hesitation, no perceptible feel at ALL using it, it really is incredibly slick. You have to be tall and want the adventure segment suspension though, it's not going to be for everyone.

I think this is one of the most detailed and accurate reviews I've ever seen! Thank you! The vibration in the handle-bar doesn't bother me at all, some say it's something you can't handle.

Brian,when you use the quick shifter going up,don't throttle off,keep the throttle in the same position.it's silk.You got it right on the down shift,shut the the throttle off completely before you shift.It's the best quick shifter system on any bike.

Great review. The feedback on the bike's manners in traffic was especially useful, since I spend most of my commute in slower traffic, and the Ducati I ride now has similar issues.

Great test ride with excellent on-bike info as usual. What a fabulous bike! The one thing that would perhaps put me off buying a BMW is the servicing costs. I really would like to own a K1600 GTL for the styling and technology on board. I guess I just love big bike engines and you cannot beat that awesome inline 6. Thanks for sharing Bryan.

Great review Bryan. I test rode the BMW GSA last weekend and it was awesome. Then I tested the XR. Holy crap, I would lose my license on this bike! I can flat feet both the GSA and XR with no issue. I like the adventure styled bikes. I love my FJR, but I am always looking for what I would buy next. I have 14k on my 2014 FJR with no issues. Great bike.

Outstanding review, you solved the "buzzing" issue with this bike in minutes into the demo, something all the other reviewers I have seen from around the world could or would not do.I would love to hear your thoughts on a BMW 1200GS. I believe this is BMW's best seller and a comparison between the two (S1000XR & 1200GS) would be interesting and with all your reviews it would be informative.

I enjoyed your review, you touched on all the flaws of the bike (not many :P) and pointed out the things I enjoyed when riding it. I knew within 5 minutes of test riding, that this was the bike for me. It's like sitting on a couch that does 160+ and handles like a dream. Not the cheapest bike out there but that hasn't stopped me from putting a deposit down today haha. These next 10 days will take forever!

Had it for about 2 months now. I absolutely love it, makes me giddy every time I get on. Covered 2,500 miles so far. Can't fault the bike in any way, 'cept that it is tall as fuck and I'm only a small guy. Makes moving it around while i'm sat on there nearly impossible. Pros: Handles like a dream. Settings for all weather. In rain mode it cuts the power right down and makes the throttle less jerky. Shit loads of electronics that make the bike feel really stable under heavy acceleration. They can be disabled i think but I haven't bothered yet, would be a right handful! Looks pretty damn cool and once you get the luggage racks removed it's even better. Easy to put back on when you go touring etc. Cons:Tall. Slight but manageable vibrations at cruising speed. I barely notice them but other people seem to complain about it. Expensive, but worth it. -- If you get a chance to ride one I highly recommend giving it at try. Edit: Is that a fireblade in your profile pic? Looks good man

James Broad Thank you so much for responding with all the important details. Yes it is a Fireblade 2014 and I have a 2010 VFR 1200 as well so I was thinking about selling one and possibly getting the XR. Sports bike are awesome and I love them but when you get little older leaning constantly forward gets tiring lol.

You need to be accelerating(on the gas) for up shift to work and decelerating for down shift to work

Since everyone is adding quick shifters to their expensive bikes, it is probably time manufacturers start reconsidering the idea of an automatic transmission. I like shifting but having the other brake control on the handlebar would be an awesome advance in motorcycle driving.
