This is a long one! You can follow along as I show the steps that I tool to fix the vehicle. No parts required, it was basically a logic lock situation!

Brian very interesting video in a non edited format. Very informative. This really shows everything in real world environment. I personally like you showing what a mobile mechanic is truly up against. Maybe you can start throwing in some unedited videos on involved gobs. Thanks for sharing 👍

Great job and sticking with the vehicle Brian. I enjoyed watching the thought process as you figured this one out. I've had modules lock up before but this one was a ride lol. Thanks for sharing.

I was just watching a Super Mario Diagnostics video and he mentioned why he does not do certain repair or programming videos. I have not seen all of your videos YET, but may I suggest what he has mentioned. Look at the type of maintenance you do on each of your videos and see which ones have the most views and that is what people wish to see the most. Mario also believes that there are more DIYers and typical shop technicians viewing these videos and most of the viewers don't have dealer-level scan tools or oscilloscopes. Maybe you can take a second look at the type of content you are providing. I myself am an A-Level tech but most viewers are not partner. Thanks for this video for the 100 people who have seen it so far on the first day.

Ok so I have to tell you, this vehicle never left the shop, the battery went dead over the weekend (may be the root cause of the issue) and was logic locked again, this time worse than the 1st time. I have footage that I will be sharing soon.. All the fingers are pointing to the ecm but the problem is intermittent.

​​​@@BrianMann216my 2015 Cherokee Latitude has a gut punching hard shift "clunk" from park to reverse and, into drive now- EVERY time I have dared try to try it.. It started immediately after battery was replaced last week. I've not figured it out yet but am leaning towards a loose ground and /or a communicative issue because -while running in park, I went into settings_ "service brakes" and tried to engage that operation. It said it "could not perform operation because vehicle needs to be in park or neutral". It was in park. So🤷‍♀️ I called a local Jeep dealership to schedule an overdue PLGM recall appt. and the Service Manager answered the call. I briefly told him of the "trans clunk" / new battery switch out, and he told me OVER the PHONE that I most definitely needed a tranny! I asked him (calmly) "You got THAT? Already? (he said yes), From my one sentence?" (he said yes).... 🤯 My Jeep has 191,000 miles on it and it's been well maintained but anything can happen, I know, but, I was immediately disgusted & in shock ŷwith his unprofessional premature tranny pitch and said I'd have to call him back on that😦. Then,, I told him I have been car-less for a week now and I am widowed , retired, and money is an issue for me but,,, I know a little more than the average bear because I had done my recall research before I called and knew about the possibilities of warranty covering the many Jeep reprograms, TSB's, Recalls & recalb's, DTC's etc. Etc. and that I also knew protocols are in place, to first duplicate, then determine diagnosis because I worked as a GM Service advisor and Executive Secretary to the Service Dept. Manager back in the 90's and I worked for both parts and service simultaneously. He tried to backpedal a little but I declined to entertain the conversation any further. HELP?

Hey Man that was a crazy challenge having to fix that 2016 Jeep Cherokee I didn't expect you managed to figure it out the problem man I have so many questions bro I have no idea man I'm in a middle of a pickle because I'm kinda having the same problem as we speak and so many people I thought I could trust as my mechanic support would be on point but man it's down hill for keep trying to get some one to help me figure it out but my situation is that everytime I try to crank my car to start on it turns off and turns back on and it keeps doing that so I got the fuse tester and heavy duty electrical tester and found several fuses that didn't get no circuit so now I think I'm going to get a auto pro pad and figure what software can I use on my laptop to do every diagnostic available to figure out how to accomplish fixing the car by myself since all the support I thought I had failed to they having me learned the hard way doing it urself I guess because dam I've called several people saying they going to help and it's past a few days a week n a few days lost count how many tickets I got already being stuck in a alley worst mistake I ever made in my life at night when I at least expected rats come out and there's been a few times found rat shits on top of my engine and battery fck crazy now I have to forst myself to boost up insomnia trying to figure out how to get my jeep started videos after videos every day and night trying to figure it out lucky my friend had a decent OBD2 scanner kinda help figure out what trouble codes showed up most are lost communication 😢 pcm tcm havoc ecm etc

Wow what a nightmare vehicle! I had one similar to that months back that I manually put into neutral with the red pull leash for an alignment and afterwards had alot of comm codes and a no crank. Ending up needing a shift control module....

Did you recommend a new pcm anyway when you got it to run? The shop ever say the real story what happened?

I told them that there could be a bad PCM. My gut says that it was a logic lock, properly a battery that low, and as the vehicle was turned on the voltage went to low as the modules were communicating. They said the customer changed the battery because it would not start. SO... It appears the battery was dead or very low.. This shop did not do much to the vehicle besides check fuses and codes. This is good. I can tell you from my experiences this type of situation could have cost the customer thousands in parts at the techs guessing ..

Just happened to me, just replaced battery. Did a proxy aligment to the pcm and left it alone for about 1 hour and it worked great after that. Just had to clear dtc

Just fixed one of these, intermittent no crank on a 4 cyl 15 Cherokee. Turned out to be a bad battery terminal.

Do you remember if cluster didnt go to sleep? Im having similiar problems like in your video but cluster stays always active ant that fails proxy for not going to sleep

It sometimes wouldn't at all, and sometimes baclight would stay on.

Curious how similar topology feature is to the witech? Better then autels topology?

Topology on top do. Is by network and Is only good for knowing wich network modules are on.. ultra does a better job from what I have seen as far as the actual location of modules. Witech does great job. You have to look at a network diagram with topdon for sure if you are dealing with comm issues

Scan tool topology layouts are not true layouts with series and parallel connections, even a small number of schematics get it wrong. Scan tool layouts will not help you to find a break in the harness where several offline modules are affected. I admit it is very nice to look at and interact with.

@@duanedonaldson2262 the witech has done a good job showing true layout, I have not found it to show the network improperly. The topdon just breaks it down into the proper networks by protocol, but no rhyme or reason for the location of the modules.

Hello sir My 2016 jeep Cherokee few days ago someone do detailing the inside and washing the engine and after detailing job finish my jeep a start and I parked it all night then next day I start it and a little I back up it then engine is turn off and when turn the key to start position don’t do anything I mean didn’t come any light on in the cluster Please can you help me to what I do

This is happening with my 2021 jeep cherokee limited 3.2 it wasn’t starting no crank i took it to the dealer now they’re replacing the RH module. Let’s see if that helps.

Topdon scanners are nice BUT they will give you problems with missing codes and also doesn't do most of what it says it does. Special functions fail more than they succeed. Service lights say reset complete and light is still on. I can go on and on. Typical Launch stuff and they make topdon stuff also so it makes sense. Price point is good on topdon but Autel is still the better option of the two. Dealer scanners always the best way to go but the aftermaket stuff is nice for quick access to special functions and things like that. Scan a newer Mercedes like a w222 or something fairly recent within last 5-8 years with the topdon and then scan it with an autel or dealer scanner. You will find missing codes and missing modules on the topdon

I got the topdon to fill in where my autel may miss. OE tools are the way to go if you can, however that is not the option for many. I am very aware of the holes in all aftermarket tools from the position that I held at my last "job". the R&D team did comparisons with all hte major aftermarket tools on vehicles 2-3 years old at the time.... Every Aftermarket tool has modules that did not populate or miss codes that the OE tool would pull. The majority of the time a aftermarket tool can get you codes and some Bi directional control.. in this instance I think I had to use the wi tech for the programming and the proxi alignments..
