This is the one. This is the Mustang we've all been waiting for since Mustangs dominated Trans Am Racing 50 years ago. The 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R. I met a few of the designers at Ford nationals in PA, and you could literally feel in the air how excited and passionate they were about it. They did such an amazing job on this car.

Matt, being a professional cyclist, and very avid car enthusiast, I must respect you and thank you greatly for your treatment of cyclists on the road. A lot of people fail to realize the amount of pain someone is in climbing a mountain like that, and having a car pass inches a way at an extra 70 mph makes it no easier...so thank you

Special it is. Hands down one of the best cars you can possibly buy from a dealer. It would be hard pressed to be able to build one in the aftermarket that replicates what this car can do.

I typically don't like naturally aspirated engines but that motor is really something special. A high revving, inspiring, and a unique exhaust pitch to match a car that Ford really cares about and put a ton of work into really drives my love for that car.

A buddy of mine has a new 2016 Mustang GT, I had it for a week while he was on vacation.. I have to say it was such pleasure to drive and I was amazed how much power it had and the handling was phenomenal.. poised but comfortable.. I could only imagine how this 350R would be... I am no stranger to Horsepower having a 500HP 300 SRT (Have 3 kids) so I need a sedan. While I love my SRT.. the Mustang was much more engaging.. Kudos to Ford.. for not only making the Mustang Look Great and also have true performance,,, Matt you have the best job ever..

Got an F-Type R, rwd a couple of years back and have been really happy with it. This car was a very close second mainly due to the manual. Both have GREAT SOUND.

I can honesty say the Mustang has always been the car I've dreamed of since I was a kid. To see how the car is evolved but still in touch with it's routes, makes me appreciate the car more. I am definitely going to be a very proud owner of a GT350R!

this has to be my new favorite car, i love how they designed the car around the engine and put time into the engine instead of slapping a turbo or a supercharger on like most manufacturers do with their top of the line cars. This car is just special, i would take this car over a Hellcat or a z28 or a z06, or even an m3 or m4.

Lol explain, everything i said was true, the gt350r has its own engine a Hellcat or a z28 just come with a supercharged version of an engine that's pretty common, and the gt350r handles better than any one of those cars and those are Chevy and Dodge's "top of the line" muscle cars

No i haven't driven any of the cars but i didn't describe any kind of experience or anything make-up anything all i said was the facts, the gt350r has it's own engine and no other car has that same engine which makes it special and cool, the z27 and z06 and Hellcat all have engines that are pretty common but have a supercharger slapped on them, idk how many times you want me to say it?

Joe Tavarez The R because it has such huge potential off the lot. All the tuning shops who work with Mustangs I am sure already have 1000+hp kits just waiting to go, plus you could strip 400 lbs out of the interior and make a kind of 'RS' version.

Joe Tavarez true, there are better cars to start w but many come with paddles and are mid/rear engine. Front engine, high revving, NA V8 is its own flavor of driving. It will never act like a 570S and that is exactly why some will go for the stang Instead of the Brit or the german .

So, Matt seems seriously and helplessly in love with this Mustang GT350/R, he can't conceal his excitement which speaks volumes. I've found Matt to be super tough in his judgement on American cars, (mostly too tough for my liking) with a bit of a bias (personal taste that is) towards german and japanese hardware as it seems. But now, seeing how Matt is enjoying and praising these Mustangs (even referencing the world beating mighty Viper ACR), they sure must be no less than absolutely phenomenal machines.

Such a cool car. My dream garage would be this and the new Raptor. I think I'm going to make the Raptor happen soon, but based on production limitation alone, the 350R seems unlikely. :(

I have a 2015 1LE and I frikken love this car. In fact, before I bought my Camaro this was THE car I wanted. Not the R, but the base GT350. Unfortunately it turned into too big of a hassle so I went with the 1LE instead.

Hi Matt - So you've been able to drive it on the road for a while.... You mentioned being interested in DD'ing it - how realistic do you think that is now that you've spent this time in it? I have an R on order - biggest purchase I've ever made in MANY years of Mustang ownership...so part of me wants to pamper it with Cars and Coffee and an occasional HPDE. The other part of me says, "You aren't going to live forever!" and is begging me to just put it into DD duty. This is the ultimate first world problem.

3700 pounds is around 1680kg so its pretty okay for such a big car. Great engine concept from audi brought back by Ford here....very special and fun! Carbon wheels are the future. Below average speakers and a problematic front splitter are negative points in my mind :). In germany there is a ironic saying : "Ist der Motor kalt gib ihm sechseinhalb" which means "is the motor cold rev to 6,5" . So if you drive 5-10 mins and your oil temp is 75-80 °C or around 175 °F you can start to wind :). Reliability comes from the owner too.

Around December last year I was torn between buying a new C7 or a GT350R. After some research, it sounded like I would need to pay a hefty premium above MSRP for the R and then hope to God I could get an allocation. I was also considering a Porsche Cayman GTS and BMW M2. I finally decided to get the C7 and I don't regret it. However, watching videos like this makes me want to get the R really badly as well lol....and the Cayman....and the M2....

I was wondering where you were driving, the stretches of roadway are beautiful especially in the car that you drove. yeah xarnoidx you are right. the zl1 1le is on another level. nothing competes with it until you get into another 150,000 or more. just plain crushes everything at numbering. an insane car that is just in another league. but this is a beautiful car that performs very well and if you are looking for a more relaxed, daily driver type of drive this may be an option worthy of considering, but then you have the regular zl1 to content with and that is a bitch or a beast to try to compete with.

I've thought about buying one, but 2 things talk me out of it. 1) Do I want to buy a car that's "turn key" performance when I'm a tweaker at heart (like how some people like buying fixer upper houses to make them their own) 2) It's a Mustang, it's not a sleeper in any stretch of the word. It can't slide past cops without drawing attention and they're probably going to pull you over for the smallest infractions because "I'm sure he was doing much worse shit when I wasn't looking".

If I'm not mistaken, the GT-R IS NOT automatic. It has a double clutch tranny with flappy paddles. And screw the automatic option. If you want an automatic, go buy a damned Beetle.

Best sounding american engine ever? LOL unique yes, best, not by a long shot. I guess once people find out it's a flat plane engine, like them thar ferrari it suddenly becomes the best sounding.

+PUNKem733 giggled about that one too. okay, it is a matter of pure personal taste, which is why arguing is pointless. but seeing it as matt seems to enjoy even the most crappy and generic of all engine sounds (hello bmw m3/4), it is only logical that he calls this voodoo v8 the best sounding ever. even though, that spot is already taken by the mighty HEMI.
