That 12.3-inch display looks as wide as the one in the S-Class. Same size too. That has a 8:3 display which I think is wider than the 16:9. Since you haven't shown the display with it on, I hope it's a super-wide 8:3.
I had a 2013 RX 350 which I loved but unfortunately lost when it was totaled in an accident on 9/2/14. After that I switched to an Acura MDX which I like even more but I don't think I'd ever switch back to the Lexus down the road after this redesign. I don't like the look of the new front grill or the rear side pillars at all. The prior generation had a quiet elegance to it while I think this one looks cheap. The car may have been in need of a refresh but this was not the way to do it!
nice suv from Lexus I think it's going to sell like bread... By the way the power leg support you said was only available on the ls they do have it in different models I have that option on my GS F sport, keep the good work.
Hi, Motoman. Can you incorporate into the new Lexus RX review a comparison of the mechanical structure and real dry road and snow performance of the AWD/4x4 systems available at the higher end Toyota SUVs, such as the 2016 Lexus RX, 2016 Lexus GX and LX, as well as the 2016 Toyota 4Runner Limited. As far as I know nobody has done such a comparison. Here, in Canada, Toyota does not have technical department. When I called the Toyota USA, they told me they do not answer questions related to Toyota cars sold outside US. Also, I would love to see you review the refreshed 2016 Lexus LX. Thanks.
Thanks for the good preview, Motoman. I am considering an F-Sport version of one of these for my next vehicle. Could you please give a detailed look at just how well the adaptive suspension works? Especially, does it truly transform the experience from Lexus cushy to genuinely sporty, or is the F-Sport just a pretender? I really enjoy your videos, and look forward to the full episodes!
As a die hard Lexus fan, the power train is bush league, the style is like taking a step way past Nissan (read ugly) and the gimmicks like Yamaha door trim are nice but a little bit much. We know this will be slow like every other Lexus SUV.
Holy Fake Grille Batman! It gotta be Jeep, they can't build the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee & Wrangler fast enough ... The Grand Cherokee kept a 6-figure sales number in the US alone since its introduction (only dipped into 5-figures between 08 & 10)
+IceDree The jeeps 9 speed has been a dismal failure. Constantly needs reflashing, people losing 2nd and reverse and some having to replace it altogether. Jeep stopped production half way through it's first year because they knew about the transmission problems but sold them anyway. Look it up...even Motor Trends test vehicle had to be towed!
Your review should have gone no further than dismissing this model as one of the ugliest cars ever inflicted on our long-suffering eyeballs. No car needs to be ugly. This one beggars belief.
Beautiful. This new RX is like art on wheels. SO sculpted and edgy with aggression. Lexus attention to detail is here for sure. The interior looks great too very modern. Little to say this thing is gonna sell like hot cakes. Looks great inside and out cant mistake it for no other car on the market. Its a look all its own.
These look so cool now. Don't understand why people can't warm up to Lexus' design language, when they've always complained about how boring they used to be. Now they're interesting and people still complain!
Maybe because the design is not as appealing to most. This RX has to much going on, you and everyone else can see that. Lexus needs to design more elegantly with some sportiness added to it.
Boss Bic Lol dude calm down I was not replying to you. I love Lexus, and always will. I own 3 other Lexus cars, I'm about to add a fourth next year. I not about my tastes, its my preference. Besides the NX looks better than the RX.
Newer cars look more angular these days.. I remember about 10yrs ago, that rounding is a thing, as opposed to boxy- types. These days, away with round, bring back boxes... In form of angles... I guess they all look modern now. But maybe I'm biased as I usually look at Toyotas and Nissans. Second point: This Lexus reminds me of Toyota Versa... Somehow.... That car didn't hit the spot as predicted. Yes, US has an ageing population, which this car is targeting, however, due to longer lifespan, we don't have as much spending power in relation to our current pension or lack thereof..
These grills are rather silly looking. It is a recycling of the 50's and 60's fins. Some Audi's have tolerable lines. This Lexus front end looks like a clown car.
Lexus is going from elegant and sporty to sharp, edgy sporty design. scrap that stupid FWD drivetrain and slap on a RWD or AWD and it'll drive like how it looks.
Hi Motoman, You asked why they use NiMh batteries instead of Lithium. Lithium is super toxic and not commercially recyclable at end of battery life, and lithium batteries in this type of application generate more heat requiring a battery cooling system. Nickel batteries are easily recycled. So while the lithium battery may be smaller than the nickel, the extra cost, complexity and weight render benefits moot.
I see only things usual haters can says against luxury lexus.. is" ugly".. cause noting else to find against such a great car.. haters sees lexus rollin' they hatin'
Okay so from the opinion of a "Piano aficionado", Yamaha is a low-tier Piano (and other instruments) maker... Most would prefer to stay away from Yamaha lol.. That is not something to brag about haha
Freeda Birda Excuse me, but you are far from correct in your statement. Whether or not they have brought technology to their instruments doesn't mean that they are "top-tier". I am speaking in regards to their Pianos and nothing else because that is where I have been taking lessons for 13 years INCLUDING 2 years completed of a college degree which I am in the midst of pursuing. Their acoustic grand pianos are underwhelming in their production of sound compared to a Steinway, Schimmel or Fazioli which ARE top-tier acoustic grand pianos. (I have had the pleasure of performing on a Schimmel owned by my college and I own a Steinway for reference.) The grand pianos often have a heavyness in the keys, and do NOT produce the same quality of sound in the high frequencies to that of the latter. Their keyboards/ digital pianos/ synthesizers have the most unrealistic replication of sound comparative to an acoustic piano and are bested in quality of sound by the likes of Korg and Roland. Their innovation in "Software/ Hardware instruments are great if you're a DJ: but as a classical musician, I look for the clearest tone of sound which is where Yamaha does not contend. I am speaking from my own knowledge gathered from playing piano over my entire life so I believe I am entitled to say I do know what the difference between a mid-range instrument and a top of the line instrument is. I have competed in many festivals which use Yamahas and have taken numerous examinations over the years. I have played on many Yamahas. They all have exhibited the characteristics that I mention in my argument.
I'm a HUGE fan of the current Lexus design language. The spindle grill didn't look good on the last gen refresh models (2014 RX/LS, etc) but the IS, RC, NX are stunning IMO. I appreciate how jarring the design is considering this is Toyota/Lexus we're talking about.
Mazda CX-3 has a floating roof, too. Not that I'm a fan of the styling theme in the first place, but I think Mazda does it best. Others remind me too much of the Odyssey "lightning bolt". commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mazda_CX-3_-_Tokyo_Auto_Salon_2015.jpg
I love Lexus, but the new Design is a no go from the front. It looks like from a Cartoon ... hope next Version goes back to less front grill. Corner lights like that mentioned are standard in Europe on almost each car now. Interested in the other movies with the tech facts and driving. Like your presentation like always :-)
This looks like a lease to me, I just don't feel like this design will look good after a couple of years. Personally, I like the last generation RX better... and I'm 20 so I don't know if this dramatic styling even appeals to most younger people.

Front end not to sure, floating roof line looks good. Trying to get use to the changes in the other areas thinking of trading my 2013 RX350 have to think about it a little more.
All lexus need is a chief designer with a common aesthetic. Despite the "galapagos" design, it is more reliable and at a more reasonable price than the competitors.
@motoman those are two pre production prototypes Lexus has and I can say drive both of them and very nice big improvement over previous model . You agree ?
+Rayaan Shaikh As mentioned in the episode, there is an embargo on drive impressions. Our FIRST DRIVE REVIEWs of both the RX350 and the RX450h come out this coming week . . .
