Has your 2016 Mazda CX-5 radio failed? Is your Mazda CX-5 radio stuck in an endless reboot loop? Ready to upgrade your 2016 Mazda CX-5 radio to a new model with Apple CarPlay? This is a very common issue we see at our shop. In this video we will show you how to upgrade your 2016 Mazda CX-5 radio with Apple CarPlay. Specifically we're talking about 2016 Mazda CX-5 radios with the non touch screen display and center console radio controls. Using the iDatalink Maestro RR and a Kenwood eXcelon DMX709s Maestro compatible radio, we are able to retain the steering wheel controls, reverse camera and center console controls.
When looking to upgrade your Mazda CX-5 radio to Apple CarPlay, there are a few tips to be aware of. Mazda actually offered 2 different style radios for 2016. One with a touch screen radio and one without. The Metra 95-7522b will work with the touch screen style stereo. However, most of the Mazda CX-5 radio failures we see are in vehicles equipped with the non touch screen radio, center console radio controls and leatherette trim on the dash.
The Metra 95-7522B won't work for that style dash. You need to obtain the Mazda trim panel made for the non touch screen models to get the job done. We show you how we do it and what features are retained in this 2016 Mazda CX-5 radio Apple CarPlay upgrade. Good Evening. Incredible work, apart from the center console knob and steering wheel controls retained, what about the original headunit functions such as the maintenance alerts, warning guidance and other features? Were they retained on this new headunit as well?

Good morning Just saw your video and was very much interested in doing the same set up to my recently purchased cx5, it is also a 2016 . I reside in New York City and I am looking to have it done locally . Do you know of any installer in my area or are you near my area for me to get this done ? Also what would be the final cost I should be looking for the installation? Thank you for your time and any information provided would be greatly appreciated.

Need the RR2 so you can have it installed and program it via Bluetooth 😊. Good job looks nice in there....ive had to order the Mazda bezel and our local dealer was kind of a pain to let us order it. I had to get a vin from a touchscreen Mazda for them to let us order it.

Good call on the RR2! That definitely would have saved time on programming. Thank you; I feel like having the right bezel is a huge factor in making it look nice. Dealers can be so weird like that even when you have the part #. I don't get it.

Working on a video for a 2024 Mazda 3 (adding rear speakers to a base model which only has front speakers from the factory) and then a more elaborate full system Jeep build (this time in a 2-door model). No and the cool thing about using the iDatalink Maestro and a compatible head unit is there is a section in the radio where if you did happen to have a check engine light, you can read the error code and if it's not a major fault, you can clear it.

Hey guys. I have a 2015 cx5 with the touchscreen with bose. I wanted to add a 5 channel amp bypassing the bose. It was important for me to keep the oem radio. Well i quickly realized that none of my plans would work. Can you recommend a reg head unit AND the best ANDROID head unit? I know im going to have to rewire everything. No using the existing speaker wires. Thank you in advance. Im in the Bronx NYC😊😆✌🏾 BTW, your content is Awesome!!

Hi and thank you for your support! You want an iDatalink Maestro compatible head unit that's also Android Auto compatible. If you're asking me about those Android based head units that ship directly from China off Amazon? I can't recommend a single one of them. Every time a client brings one in, it's a 50/50 chance it's going to work and if it does work, I can't tell you for how long it will work. And if you have a question or issue with it, good luck contacting the seller. Stick to name brand, reputable radio manufacturers like Sony, Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, etc. A couple models you could consider - Kenwood DMX709s (wired Android Auto), Sony XAV-AX6000, Sony XAV-9000ES, Alpine iLX-507, Kenwood DMX958XR (all wireless Android Auto). All are iDatalink Maestro compatible, have either a 4 volt or 5 volt pre-amp and would retain the functions seen in this video when used with the iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR.
