Things I would like to see on the Maxima, do away with all the "Near Luxury" bits and add the following: 1.) AWD (RWD bias if you want to impress) 2.) CVT is a Nissan Trademark, however, this is supposed to be a 4 door Sports car, a DCT is needed. 3.) The High-Output 3.7 Liter engine Basically, a more affordable Infiniti, a 4 door Fairlady Z like the Skyline...

I love everything about the new Nissan Maxima 2016 ( Technology on the inside and outside and the design as well) My only complaint between me buying this vehicle vs. a 2014 Nissan Maxima is the grill in the front. The bar around the Nissan Maxima 2016 logo in the front has to go. Remove the bar it's not needed.

Ditch the CVT for a ZF 8speed auto.

ZF 8speed auto doesn't work on FWD cars. CVT is the only compact option that works on FWD cars. Switching into ZF 8speed auto means RWD biased AWD or RWD. It won't happen during this product cycle.
@NZsarge1
@NZsarge1 9 лет назад
Yes fair point about the ZF, let's just keep it to ditch the CVT then..

Shly Hoit The ZF 9 speed is in the new Acura TLX and Chrysler 200...and many others, in a FWD or AWD variant. Maybe they should try for that one. the CVT had its pros and cons, but more cons in my opinion. It may be fine for an elderly person or a typical driver, but when I get into a "4DSC" to have a SPORTY drive, I don't want a CVT with "manual mode". Manual or true automatic. I want something with a little character. My CVT was always choppy feeling and I had to damn near WOT the car to get it out of its low gear ratio that it always hunted for MPG.

Wow, I see so many people post negative stuff about its exterior design. Honestly I am in love with the new 2016 Maxima, don't change a thing on it. I currently drive a 2014 Toyota Avalon Limited and I love it, but this one is now catching my eye :)

Currently have a 2007 Altima 2.5 SL but looking forward in buying a 2016 Maxima Platinum this car is definitely worth every penny. I owned Nissan's since 1998 grew up with them and learned how to drive in my first one now looking at something more upgraded as the Maxima is the 4DSC.

I Love the look of the new 2016 Maxima. The Bold, yet sleek new grill is a vast improvement from the old hum-drum grill in my opinion. It needed a change, and this one is really nice. Nothing to busy, just a nice, bold grill that really makes a statement. The new body style is superb, and interior is fantastic. I'll be first in line for the new Maxima!

I agree with you about the No sunroof on the SR... I mean come on nissan $37k and not sunroof. I have never had a maxima with out a sunroof. That should have stayed standard. Even if it was just a single panel roof for the SR that would have worked. hoping they rethink that and add one. I don't want to have to put on in myself on a 37k car.

It's a very bold design and the interior looks great. If I was in the market for a sedan this video would have gotten me into a dealership to check one out IF it didn't have a CVT. Automatics and CVTs are fine for base "sell it to people that don't care" models but if you're trying to pass something off as a sports sedan that doesn't cut it. I don't expect a real manual in a car like this but if it doesn't have a flappy paddle dual clutch you're not in the race

I love the new design language (Maxima and Murano), can't wait to see what other models will inherit this also.But the main thing I like about this new Max is that it is larger and doesn't clash size wise with the Altima, and I'm sure you guys planned that after you made the Altima larger...(I own an '05 btw)

I personally feel like Nissan needs to choose which direction they want the Maxima to go if they want it to be a four door sports car they need to focus on going the direction of a Subaru Impreza WRX STI or a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and if they're wanting to go for the luxury then aim for what they're Infiniti brand is doing. I would love to see an addition of the maxima that came factory equipped with a body kit and a spoiler as well as turbo and a higher output engine. I personally own a 20th anniversary edition G XLE Nissan Maxima with the body kit package and I love it.

Ansett76 CVTs at ten percent and growingAmong new vehicles with automatic transmissions, more than ten percent now have CVTs, and that percentage is growing each model year. That's because it's not just niche models; top-selling models like the Toyota Corolla, Honda Accord, and Honda Civic now have CVTs on their most popular models, as do family mainstays like the Subaru Outback and Forester.
@ansett7687
@ansett7687 9 лет назад
Mark G it still isn't popular, I can tell you. I manage a large rental fleet of over 2000 vehicles, and it is more often then not requested that the vehicle NOT have CVT as customers do not like it it. I personally don't like it either and will avoid any vehicle that has it if purchasing a vehicle for myself.

Needs a spoiler and 20 inch rims... Should have upgraded on the rim size long ago. The new rim design looks like they belong a lower trim model. I loved the 2012 rim design. But 20 inch rims would make that look even better. And adding a spoiler to it will definitely give more to the Sports Sedan Theme. And the SR trim should at least have option to get a normal moonroof instead of nothing at all but this is from my point of view. Other than that, the car is freaking awesome.

Build the concept car with an dct awd option for the SR model, the other models should all be rwd. The floating roof idea is great but that means not adding any color above the doors. Just my opinion. Stop offering wheels sizes below 18, this car is asking/begging for a 20in wheel. I love the way the car looks I just wish it was the actual concept car and this car would become the altima.

I just LOVE the look of it. The interior has my heart though. I love the flat bottom race-inspired steering wheel, the big paddle shifters, the design of the center console, and the seats. It looks absolutely amazing. And I'm glad Nissan boosted up the HP number on the VQ35. 270HP was getting boring. Glad to hear it's 300HP now. And I know Nissan is all about their CVT, but let's be honest: Paddle shifters on a CVT is quite useless. Anyways, that's just some of my thoughts on the new Maxima. I just love the car, but the paddle shifter paired with the CVT is my only complaint.

loved my 2002 maxima, hid, 255hp for a 12yr old car! kept it until 160k miles. I think a performance hybrid should be in the lineup, similar to infiniti hybrids, more torque/hp combined for faster performance and still improve nissan brand mpg targets.

As a previous owner of the 6th and 7th gen Maxima I can really see the money Nissan has invested. I'm in love with the interior design and the materials look top-notch. Its the exterior styling that i'm not crazy about. Its a bit too swoopy/curvy. It looks very bulbous and almost like a cross-over. I can definitely see the Murano's styling cues, and I absolutely hate the chrome strip surrounding the logo (remember the "gold tooth" logo from the 6th gen?? IDK maybe it'll grow on me when I see it in person...

Definitely the SR, whether Altima or Maxima, is something to look for, since I own 2010 Altima SR Sedan and I am more than happy with the car, especially after the mods I have done to it. However, building these great vehicles AWD or RWD will be revolutionary and I do not know why Nissan still does not make the move...

As most will say, the Maxima needs to offer a manual transmission again. At the very least, they should offer a DCT. If the Maxima wants to truly be a 4DSC, it needs to have a drive train of a real sports car. There should also be an ever more performance oriented version like a Maxima NISMO.

I have been in the new Murano with this new XTronic CVT. I must say that it does imitate 8 gears very well and it is very smooth and the noise that people have come to expect from CVTs is non-existent. I would go as far as to say that it performs similar to the ZF 8 speed automatic in Chryslers and European cars.

I love how people are :"whining" about the CVT when they haven't driven this vehicle and there are not even any reviews of how this car drives yet. Just making assumptions based on other CVTs and general irrational hate. Maybe Nissan has made an improved CVT for 2016. The CVT in the current Honda Accord is very good at driving and feeling like a regular automatic in most cases So, by the time the 2nd or 3rd iteration Honda makes comes out, it should be great for Honda. If Honda can do it, Nissan should be able to do even better since they have been doing CVTs in larger scale for a longer time.

Ross Cheek Good question! We just shot the full first drive episode and saw a ton of them in Nashville but dont' recall seeing all black. The design is undoubtedly going to be divisive, but I like the bold new look. As for what should be added, AWD would be great, though I say that about every car due to living in Michigan. If that AWD system could also be rear wheel biased, that would be great as well. Plenty of people will also be down on the CVT, but I've heard some good things about newer systems, like what Subaru has done with the WRX CVT, so I'll wait and see.

What I like: -The interior -New infotainment system -Multiple trim levels What needs to be changed: -The exterior design. It's too busy for a Maxima. The body lines don't flow and reminiscent of a Mazda 6. The cars proportions look bloaty and the blacked out pillars don't look good. The best looking Maxima's were the 7th gen, 5th gen and 4th gen. -Transmission. Every time the Maxima is brought up anywhere, consumers tend to complain about the CVT. There is little benefit to pairing a CVT with a V6, which is why other car companies like Honda, Toyota, etc pair CVT's with 4 cylinder engines. -Lack of transmission options. This ties in with the previous statement, but this Maxima is not worthy of the 4DSC title unless it has a 6 speed manual or a DCT.

I understand that Nissan wants to maximize fuel economy by having a CVT, but in opinion, a real sports car has either an automatic or a manual transmission. I'd like to see a fast-shifting dual-clutch transmission like Acura's new transmission, or something like Volkswagen/Audi's DCT. I'd also like to see and AWD option in order to have a wider range of buyers. Then I would probably purchase this car.

I love this car! I especially like the floating roof design feature. It reminds me of a French automotive design element. I would like to see more meaningful, bold design elements in the Maxima line. It took me some time to get accustom to the new Maxima but I love it...I would change to all wheel drive...and KEEP the CVT! I believe people don't like the CVT is for the same reason people didn't like automatics when they first came out! Change, people don't like to change! CVT is a great road racing transmission (not for drag racing yet) it was banned from Formula 1 racing because it gave cars armed with CVT TO much of an advantage...people just need to know how to drive with it! I go into the corners with no brakes and let the CVT take me through the corner then power out ...when I do use the brakes on the corner it's because I'm catching up to the car in front of me. I wish Nissan would get rid of the artificial shift points and just leave it pure CVT! I'm a 2013 and 2017 Maxima owner...

I love the new front, the size, the Interior.... The rear lights looks....normal...need to be more aggressive maybe I want it to look long and sharp from the sides.

Overall interesting, one serious "pin", one additional comment.... - no manual transmission: as Nissan's 4DSC, a manual should at least be an available option to compete with BMWs, etc... Although the industry is moving in the opposite direction, there are still old school drivers looking for this type of vehicle who might even pay for a manual. Looks like my friend's 2001 20th Anniversary Edition Maxima (manual transmission) has many years ahead of it in my garage - Don't forget about the first Maxima that goes back to 1981, it put the 'Max on the map.

Mitsubishi diamante/magna had multi link in the rear and it came out in 96 almost 20 years ago back when the maxima had a beam axle in the rear

Interior looks great! Can't wait to sit in one on the showroom. Exterior seems to have become "toned down" a bit from the concept model. The front end especially seems like it was adopted from another car and slapped onto a new sedan chassis. It doesn't flow well to the rest of the vehicle but it could be caused by the camera angles. I do think that the CVT could be a valid transmission if just for a sporty cruiser, but if a NISMO Version were to spawn it should have better suspension, stronger engine (3.7 V6?), and a dual clutch transmission.

We want a manual transmission option to return to the Maxima, but i highly doubt that's going to happen unless enough people let them know and actually buy one.

The car is absolutely spectacular from all angles. Great Work!! My only concern as it is the case with the rest of my household and a few friends is the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) and from the looks of it, no AWD and/or RWD was considered in the plan. We currently have 4 Nissan's in the household. Two of which carry the CVT which consist of a 2013 Altima 3.5 SL and a 2014 Pathfinder SL. Indeed, the design and comfort is exemplary; however, the continuous low tone whining from the CVT especially when you punch the accelerator is a bit awful. The torque at take-off is also a problem for me. I had a 2012 Acura TL 3.5 V-6 with a 6spd Automatic and that was a rocket at take off. These transmissions do not give you the torque I consider acceptable. What bothers me somewhat is when friends/family ask, "Is there something wrong with your transmission? It sounds like the engine is asking for help with the shifting"! What Nissan fails to realize is that not all consumers have the same mentality. For my family and I, it's not always about "Fuel Economy". It's about an aggressive car that can provide a true and pure adrenaline rush when needed. Indeed, you do offer the paddle shifters and the Sport Mode but let's be real, there is no comparison to a regular 7 to 8 speed transmission with this feature. I have compared the transmission shifting on a Q50 to my Altima 3.5 SL and it is night and day. The other two vehicles in the household are a 2013 370Z 6spd manual Touring w/Sports Pkg. and a 2014 Frontier SL with a 5 speed automatic transmission. These have what my family and I consider a "Real" transmission and believe me, the shifting in both feel great. Sometimes, it's about options and what some consumers really want. Luckily there are choices. As much as I love the Maxima, I think this will put a closure to any other Nissan's moving forward with the exception of the GT-R and the 370Z.
