Devondre Morris The fact that the CVT dies an early death (100k miles) is somewhat of a valid point. Even though 100,000 miles is very reasonable for ANY transmission last. But saying "no manual = not sports car" is not a valid point. No AMG has a manual. The only M car with a manual option is the M3. Manuals are dying, like it not thats the direction the industry is heading in. Bashing a car for not having a manual is ridiculous.

That's fair. I myself have never had a gearbox issue in any car I've owned, but I guess that's down to individual experiences. I will say, the nature of a CVT is fuel efficiency, not performance. Im not saying that only manuals should be in sports cars. I am saying though, that no CVT should ever be in anything sporty. As far as the Maxima......... To try and pawn off a large, full sized sedan with FWD and a CVT as a 4DSC is insulting to real sports cars. I drive a V6-6 Accord coupe. No where near a sports car. But it handles, accelerates, and stops light years better than the New Maxima, out going generation wasn't even faster top end than my old 9th Gen Civic Si. The defenition of a Sportscar is... RWD, front mounted engine, 2 seats, small and agile. By that defenition... The Maxima is not a sports car. It's not even a good grand tourer. Just a big, heavy car with a big V6, and possibly the worst transmission for performance. I'm 33, been driving more years than I haven't. Not F1 material, but I'm better than the average person, and surely not a 16 year old bashing things I don't like on the net for kicks. Nissan is and has been resting on its reputation to give the illusion it's cars are sporty. GTR, and Z aside... They arent. Them tying their fortunes to the CVT says what they think about people who actually want to drive their vehicle.

Devondre Morris I knew you were an Accord driver. Kinda got that vibe from you. Nissan used to make more 'performance oriented' cars compared to the competition in the past. The Altima was fun to drive, and the Pathfinder could actually go offroad. Nowadays they're focusing too much on sales. All manufacturers are starting to lose their DNA. Thats what happens when accountants take over the position of engineers and designers. Im surprised you're saying your Accord handles better than the new Maxima. Did you drive the SR or a base? As for the marketing hype of 4DSC, yea its bullshit. Its 300 ponies and accelerates as fast as a 328, but its not a sports car. Mind you, neither is an Accord, or even a 328i for that matter. We all wish we could see a RWD, manual Maxima. That would deserve the 4DSC title. But that would cannibalize the sales of the Q50 which is a 'sporty' car. The Maxima is a not for someone who likes to go on twisty mountain roads or take his car to the track. Its a family car for a dad who likes to put his foot down on the on ramp every once in a while. Its a comfy family car with a hint of motorsport. Fits the bill for a lot of people out there, and will sell a lot more units than a manual version. Im sure if Nissan's demographic research revealed "our customers are 90% car enthusiasts who want a stick" Nissan would make it. The demand isn't there. I'm certain the next gen Accord and 3 series will drop the manual tranny too. I live in LA, i would never buy a car with a stick. Sometimes I get stuck in traffic and takes me 6 hours to get home. I'd need a bionic left leg.

It's not that bad, its similar to my f30 because it simulates shifts, 7 gears I believe. Maxima is actually a pretty fun car, wish it came with a manual.

CVT are more practical, efficient and have less moving parts. Nissan has committed to them. other companies are waiting for the general public to catch on and understand them before they embrace them. They eventually will have to, but people are slow to adapt to new concepts, especially if they don't understand it.

I think you should visit the dealer and sit in both the Altima looks like a basic midsized commuter the Maxima is much more luxury oriented and is on pat with cars that cost much more

I own an 3.5L Altima and have sat in the one of the newer Maxima's and they are definitely a sizable step up for cabin materials but that's about it. If Nissan was serious about making this a 4DSC they would have at least bumped it up to 370z levels of power and lost some weight.

Eric Von Not really, because it's cheaper to build, lighter, more precise, and you can change the level from comfort, sport, or normal. Ford has been using it in their Mustangs for years now.
