This video is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much. As a minimalist van camper the DVD player was unnecessary and not having the top console gave me more freedom of movement in a small space.
Not to make this a competition or anything… but thanks to Mr. Studebaker, I completed this repair in about 43 minutes. Thank you very much for this video, John! Wonderful job!
Thank you so much for filming and sharing this "adventure " of yours! I want to remove the entire consol perminatly. Now i know where the 2 extra hidden screws are!
My man here just saved me so much time. I think total time was less than a half hour fix. Surprise screw would have been the death of me. Thank you for showing everyone how to do this. Super simple after watching this.
Thank you so much for making this video. This is exactly what I needed to do in order to get the DVD player to work in my 2016 Town and Country. My four kiddos thank you the most as now they have a DVD player right before our family vacation.
Thank u so much John. So easy to follow. I am a 40 yr mom with 3 kids 3 and under and we needed our DVD player back. I watched, and paused and rewatched all steps. All I need now is my replacement cable ribbon.😮
Thanks John, followed your steps to the T and it worked great. By following in your steps I was able to get it fixed in around 2 hours. Thank you so much, my youngest son is autistic and the TV DVD player is a life saver for my wife and I.
Thanks so much for this guide! I was able to get it knocked out in a little over an hour today! I found out you really only need to remove the screw and bolt at either end under the caps to remove the entire console. No other screws are necessary to pull it down. The hardest part was taking apart the DVD player for sure. Thanks for the location of the hidden screw and on the tip for opening up the case of the DVD screen!
2013 Chrysler town and country here. This was pretty much spot on. Only recommendation I have is check your ves cable you are replacing to ensure you get the right ribbon (it will have branding info on the ves ribbon). I bought mine prior to doing this and my ribbon cable was a 1/2 inch short from connecting to both ports. I bought the correct one and the video works now. Thank you for posting this video this helped me out greatly!
Thank you!! This fixed our 2014 Town and Country! The screen had been black for a couple of years, and I decided to try to fix it myself before vacation. Definitely couldn’t have figured it out on my own! I really appreciated the video!
Thank you for the video. I completed this job today - just a small tip; I left the console attached at the rear and hung the front of the console down. I supported the front while I reached up and removed the tv screen. Job was completed in an hour and a half thanks to your video!
I had to complete the job again after an aftermarket ribbon cable failed. This time I purchased an OEM cable. The job took 45 minutes. I still left the rear console section attached, dropped the front section down and supported it and reached over the front console to remove the tv. Once the front console section is hanging down, you can disconnect all the wiring harnesses and reach all the torx bolts holding it in from the topside.
I appreciate you taking the time to do this video. I spent maybe 2 hours changing that cable with no surprises. Now my mom can entertain my daughter on trips again. Great job.
I want to express the same sentiment. Seeing how you thought through and tackled all of the little problems involved was so helpful. You likely saved me hours of frustration, especially with the realization of the stickers covering the screw!
Fixed our 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan with this video! I got the cables from Amazon (2 Pack HD VES TV Screen Repair Ribbon Cable Replacement for Dodge Chrysler Town Country 2013-2018). Thanks for doing the leg work!
This saved me 850 dollars that the dealership wanted to charge me. I have a dodge caravan 2016, the clips holding it had an ac controller also. So I had to do a little work getting through all of that but once off I followed along the rest of the way. Thank you again for taking the time to post a fix! You’re the man!
Thank you, it took me 3.5 hrs total start to finish! Your video really highlighted the correct areas to safely apply pressure. This was crucial in removing the entire center console, and prying the monitor to expose the ribbon cable. This would’ve taken me an entire weekend without your guide, and I likely would’ve broke some plastic.
Thank you so much for making this video! Our dvd player went out & my 2 year old was not understanding why he couldn't watch his movies anymore...I was able to get it fixed on my own, & only needed assistance to remove the large piece, due to the stubborn pegs!
have a 2014 Town and country van. All the lights on the dash are lighten, and go out, and come back on ever so often. The windshield wipers come on and don't shut of, so I pull the fuse. It's say the Blind spot system needs to looked at. I took of the bumper and took a closer look. Connections were dirty, and the moguls were in good shape. So I cleaned up the bumper, and all the tape to hold the wiers up out of the rain. Blinkers work most of the time. Still don't know where the lose wire might be. Each connection I find and can get to I clean it out and put some electrical grease in the connections.
This was a lifesaver.. It made my repair very easy. The dealership wanted to replace the whole console for $750. That was crazy. The ribbon was only $28.00 on amazon. Thanks
YOU ARE A GOD SEND JOHN!!!!! Thank you for this video! I have the same exact problem and was worried about doing it myself but due to your video I was able to fix it!!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you Soooo Much!!! I can't wait to start tearing into mine. (Ha Ha...) But yeah I live in Iowa but my family and I travel to Washington State and our went out last year. Now I know how to fix it. Thanks buddy. And your camera man and little helper did a great job also!
Can’t thank you enough for the video. It was a great help. The ribbon was not the issue in my case I guess the monitor went bad, but it made things much easier after ordering a used monitor to replace it, we’re back in business now.
2 years later and a useful video. I did have to use a pry bar to get it from the plastic anchors but I got it down. I did notice I had a wire in one of the connectors that was bare looking. I went ahead and inspected it was pushed in all the way and put electrical tape. Might as well check everything while it is down.
Thanks for the tutorial! You helped me do this for my 2014 Routan. I may have figured out where your extra screws went, I ended up with two extra also but then found the holes later.
I believe our 2016 Town & Country DVD screen is on its last leg. It will sometimes turn on when we open it to just the right angle. But sometimes it just stays black no matter how we adjust it. Very frustrating. Definitely a design flaw among countless others seeing how many owners are experiencing similar issues. Our van's AC, window motor and regulator, door lock motors, and transmission have all failed or are failing. Although it would be pretty cool to fix this next issue in my own, not sure if I should even put more $ and effort into repairing things as it falls apart bit by bit, or if I should just cut my losses and get something for it while I still can. Sure as heck never touching another Chrysler again.
Great video- it worked!!!! One thing I’ll say is when your ordering the ribbon get it from Amazon and before you order look at the circuit board where the ribbon is disconnected/ connected for the number 34 or 68 …. I believe the models 2013 and later are 68 and that’s a different ribbon that is used…
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH. I DONT HOW YOU ENDED UP WITH EXTRA SCREWS BUT MINE WAS JUST EXACT. TOOK ME 1.5 HOURS OR LESS TO DO EVERYTHING. AGAIN, THANK YOU SO SO MUCH.
Watching your method was a mirror of my own down to the kids popping in from time to time. I got stumped at the 4 pins that held everything up too. It was then that I came across your video. Was good to watch someonelse taking the inital risk of breaking their stuff to give me the confidences to do the same. You ended up with 2 extra screws while I lost those 2 same screws. They are for the back compartment where a second monitor would go.
This was a life saver and very well done!! Love the commentary and humor! Thanks to your video and watching it twice before I tried to do it, this took me less than 3 hours!!
Wow, thank you so much for this video. The removal/install looks horrible. I'm going to try to find out how much local shops are charging. Mine actually has 2 screens, and both are now out.
Thank you so much for sharing your Trial-and-error as well as success with us the rest of us Trying to figure this out! I don't know what prices doing but in your video you said you had to use a 10 mm to get the DVD screen bolts out another video use an 8 mm and I had to use a 7 mm!!
Thank you for this! My TV went out and I need to get it fixed since we spend a lot of time sitting in the parking lot during quarantine as mom does the shopping! Thanks!
You save me a lot of money.. I bought the ribbon cable on eBay for 20 plus delivery 5, it was not the exact number of the original but it works fine... thanks
Your video was very helpful. My van has the full length console as well, but with dual screens. I am hoping that the mounting is similar. Enjoyed watching!
Thank you thank you! I knew there was a way to do it myself but was stumped with the 4 little buggers! A good yank and a bump on the brain bucket and it was down!
Thanks so much for the video. Now I don’t have to listen to all the whinging on long trips. Took me 2 hrs the first time and 1 hr the second time. Word to the wise make sure you put your ribbon in the right way up the first time 🤦
Thank you for the video! Made the job as easy as it could be. However, after completing, it didn't fix the issue. Any ideas as to what I should look into next?
I was hoping to see what it looked like with that console removed. I have turned mine into a camper and was hoping to just remove it for extra head room. I am worried about the wiring and if it controls anything else but the console tv and lights.
Great video! Wife and I are looking at buying a town and country. From what you saw, could this be installed in any trim tier town and country so long as you had the DVD reader in the main dash console?
Was your screen not turning on? Is that what the ribbon cable fix was for? Our sound and everything works, but monitor doesn’t turn on. It blinks every now and then, but that’s it.
