A short length of line from the top of the flag goes to the eyelet at the peak of the sail. Two longer legs go from the bottom of the flag, one each side of the sail, and join each other through one of the eyelets for lacing the sail to the yard, about half way along the yard. Before that, I had a line down from the flag to the clew and every time I lowered the sail, the flag went overboard and the line got tangled! Happy sailing and happy new year.
