They cried even before the score was announced because they knew they just saw a brilliant young skater just gave a splendid performance and became a real threat to their idol! Thats why they hv been attacking Nathan as much as they could for years by using every dirty possible way they could.

I'm doing my homework to get ready for the 2022 Olympics and I must admit this program has it all. This was so entertaining.

The woman commentator said Nathan took up ballet after this last season which is incorrect. He took ballet lessons as a young child and was a good enough dancer to be in ballet productions. This is why his body carriage is superior to any other man in this season as well as last season.

It’s unfortunate these commentators don’t do their homework first, in this instance still claimed she was right after Kurt proved her wrong. The bias shouldn’t be this bias when acting as broadcasters. And for the artistry, it’s a abstract mean and subjective, to say adding masculinity into these choreography is less artistic is an ignorant insult to art and this beloved sport, like Weir have said, he is an artist. And he shouldn’t be a clone of someone else or of the past.

Is it me or does the color commentator have no clue what she's talking about? "He started taking ballet classes after the world championships..." "Shae Lynn Bourne coreographed this program" "were both right." No lady you were wrong! Nathan is a classically trained ballet dancer, he was trained at the ballet west academy as a child. Lori Nichol choreographed this program, and kurt was right. She's almost as annoying as Terri Gannon.

Then the European accent lady rudely accused of “stealing”?! The Canadian commentators are the absolute worst. They unashamedly don't even try to hide their bias for their favorite skaters and constantly denigrate the other skaters who threaten them. You should have heard them tear Davis and White apart in the years leading up to their gold in Sochi over the Canadian "darlings" Virtue and Moir. I had little respect for Kurt Browning before, but after hearing how biased and unprofessional he was to Davis and White and later Nathan, what little respect I had for him was gone.
@agn2213
@agn2213 2 года назад
@@L1623VP I did not hear Kurt Browning comments on Davis and White (I liked them skating very much) but maybe here we should not be too harsh on him. Yes, both commentators were unprepared, knowing very little about Nathan and starting with the (rather unprofessional and not open) attitude - ok, he can jump and is smart enough to calculate how to try to win with his comprehension of the judging rules, but the Olympic champion YH .... But it looks like Browning got persuaded by the Nathan performance on the fly (in particular by his spins :-) ) and his concluding comments are quite different: "full package ... the real contender for the Olympic gold". And there are his comments on Chen's Skate Canada 2021 performance :-) (commenting late but I stopped watching mean figure skating for some time and now rediscovering Nathan Chen's old performances)
@L1623VP
@L1623VP 2 года назад
@@agn2213 I did see the CBC video of Nathan's 2021 Worlds LP and was surprised at how positive the comments were. It's too bad, however, that it took five years, three Grand Prix Final Championship titles, three World Championship titles, and 14 Grand Prix gold medals by that point for Nathan to finally get some respect from them. I believe a lot of that early bias came from jealousy because Nathan was so good and that Canada has never had a men's Olympic figure skating gold medalist. They, like most everyone else, knew years ago Nathan was going to win the '22 Olympics, and he did. When real excellence appears in any field, it always excites envy in some people.
@agn2213
@agn2213 2 года назад
@@L1623VP yes, you are right; it was very hard for many of the commentators to notice the real position of Chen in world figure skating. I think that some of them are still somewhat confused (and still worship only you know who). Chen’s carrier was so quick that most of them did not catch up with reality. I just wanted to notice that may be Kurt Browning was not the slowest of them (and at least had more professional comments ). But of course it is generally sad that the real value of this incredible sportsmen was not rightfully appreciated in media.
@L1623VP
@L1623VP 2 года назад
@@agn2213 Yes, Nathan rocketed onto the scene in 16-17 with all five quads intact, and suddenly if a skater wanted to win, he had to clear 100 in the SP, 200 in the LP and 300+ overall. Except for Fernandez who was doing 3 quads in a LP, everyone else was only doing 2. Nathan was doing 4 and 5 in a LP. Heads were spinning at how good Nathan was. In his first season, the judges hammered him with low PCS to offset his big tech scores, which was wrong. Even so, he still managed to defeat Hanyu at Four Continents 2017 in his first season. After he got his "senior legs" under him, Nathan won everything the next season (including defeating Hanyu again at Rostelecom 2017) except the 2018 Olympics. Even there, he beat Hanyu in the LP by 18 technical points and nearly 9 points after PCS was added. That's when the ISU conspired against him. They saw Nathan's technical power with the jumps had the ability to render PCS almost irrelevant. The judges wouldn't be able to pad the scores of preferred skaters with enough points to offset their mistakes so they could win any longer. The judges don't like when they can't "choose" the winner. God forbid objective points earned from completed elements be enough. By the time the next season started, 18-19, the ISU lowered the base values of the quads. The quad lutz, which only Nathan was doing, lost 2.1 points, 13.6 to 11.5. The quad flip lost 1.3 points, along with losses for the others. The biggest drops were in the lutz and flip, Nathan's signature jumps. Hanyu wasn't doing either of them. The ISU also reduced the number of quads that could be repeated in a LP from 2 to 1. It also shortened the LP from 4.5 minutes to 4 minutes, leaving less time for extra elements to be included. While decreasing the quad base point values, the ISU increased GOE from a possible +/- 3 to +/- 5. So, they decreased the base points on jumps that judges MUST award a skater for completing them, while increasing GOE points that a judge MAY award a skater, based on his opinion. The ISU made the technical side of scoring less objective and more subjective in this way. That was the intention. All these significant rule and scoring changes took place in the six short months after the 2018 Olympics. It was an attempt to reduce Nathan's scoring potential, close the huge point gap between him and everyone else, and give other skaters, or should we say "one" skater an unfair chance to beat him. I've seen lots of cheating judges in my watching skating, but never had I seen the actual governing body, in any sport, act against a single athlete the way I saw it against Nathan after the 2018 Olympics. My whole point in sharing this is to show what Nathan was up against during his entire career: snarky and disrespectful commentators, cheating judges low-balling his PCS, the ISU trying to rig the rules and point system against him and, of course, the hordes of nutty fanyus and their Pooh bears creating a spectacle at every event, sometimes right before he skated. Yet, he rose above all of it. Not only does he have the SP, LP, and total score world records, he also owns 5 of the top 6 total program scores, 7 of the top 10 300+ scores, and the top 4 LP scores of all time. He lost just 6 competitions in 6 years, and four were in his first season. He has the highest win rate (73% or over 7 out of 10) in international competition of any skater in the modern era (post-1970). Hanyu's win rate across his career is 40% or just 4 out of every 10 international competitions. That's a losing record. In the last 5 years of Nathan's career, he lost only twice for a win rate of 88%. In the last 4 years with three undefeated seasons and just one loss, his win rate was 92%. No one else puts up numbers like that. Nathan left Beijing as the 6-time undefeated National Champion, 3-time undefeated Grand Prix Final Champion, 3-time undefeated World Champion, and Olympic Champion. That's why he's really the greatest skater of all time, and snarky commentators will realize that in time. Maybe they did in Canada! Sorry this is so long!

I'm sorry but the commentary was so off putting. First calling hanyu (23) quite old then saying he's mimicking or stealing from the best ( Patrick chan) and then misleading information about him taking ballet. Just stick to talking about his jumps or stay quiet the whole program. My God it was hard to focus with their rudeness.

Can’t believe that it’s not just in politics that fake news exist. Also in sports, lol. Funny how the commentator keeps pushing the narrative that Nathan is only a jumping bean, lol. It’s also funny that it’s Nathan who’s skating and doing all these quad jumps, and the commentator is still giving hats off to Yuzuru, hahahahaha. Not just that, they also call Nathan a thief, like Patrick Chan or any of these skaters created all the moves in skating. Those who create a move, gets that move named after them. There is no such move named after Patrick Chen, hahahaha. So Nathan is not stealing from anyone.

Right, I think the commentators were not as prepared as they should have been. Hanyu, who skated right before Nathan, had his age posted, coaches, and rank after SP. How could the announcers NOT know Hanyu's age when they were commenting on Nathan's quads??? Ugh! And they did not know the choreographers for Nathan. As commentators, they should come prepared with a list of choreographers for all the skaters as that is known ahead of time!

@L1623VP
@L1623VP 11 месяцев назад
Yes, the judges were always low-balling Nathan's PCS because that's the only place they could hold his score back to try and close the gap between him and Hanyu, since Hanyu often made serious mistakes and couldn't match Nathan's technical ability. If you really want to get mad, watch Hanyu's LP from this 2017 Rostelecom event. He made so many mistakes, had wonky landings on all but two jumps, and downgraded another and yet, he got NO -GOE on any of them but one, a tiny -0.63. Even though those mistakes interrupted the flow and quality of the presentation, the judges STILL gave Hanyu 6 more points in PCS than Nathan, all to try and close the gap between them and pull out the win for Hanyu. Fortunately, Nathan's lead from the SP helped him win overall and get his rightful victory, but only by about 3 points when Hanyu should NEVER have been that close to Nathan's score. Nathan should have won the LP at this event too, but that's how the judges operated because the were heavily biased for Hanyu. Every competition Nathan won in his career, he fought VERY hard for because the judges never "gave" him anything, unlike others.

Nathan and Vincent both are still growing and dealing with growth plates which interfere with performance. Yuzuru & Shoma have 4-5 years on them in experience to hone their techniques & artistry. I watched Yuzuru's 2014 Olympics winning performance where he scored 280+ at age 19 years old then his 2018 scoring 317+ at 23 years old ... big difference in technique & artistry ... then Nathan's 2018 Olmpics scoring 297+ at age 18 years old along with Worlds 2018 at same age scoring 321+ ... hmmm... wonder what 2022 will be like!
