Something to keep in mind with EXC's, the kickstarter is only useful if your battery is still good, but can't spin the starter fast enough to get the engine running. If your battery is actually dead, the bike won't run no matter how many times you kick it, bump start it, etc. If you're going to add a kickstarter, I think also adding a capacitor system is a must

I’ve also read about this issue... so kick start only good if a little juice is still available, worth looking at the solution or carry a small bank that serves as a jump starter

Do you have a part number for that sicass rear fender? The only thing I can find on their website has larger turn signals at the very back of the fender.

I’d recommend some radiator protection, I have a husky 501 and they are a must. Got them through the husky catalogue, I’m sure Ktm have something similar in hard parts.

Leon you’re definetly right about that. New for the 17+ bikes is a robust front brush guard that acts as a rad brace / crash guard suitable for most casual riders. Hard core guys will want something more substantial and metal - like the ktm/husky hard parts set like you’d mentioned. Or enduro engineering, they have a terrific guard kit we like and use allot.

that's a one-off graphics package we had made up specific for this build. luckily there's all kinds of really nice packages out there to choose from for these bikes.

Hi, what AntiGravity battery did you use? Did you use the AG-801 (8-Cell)? AG doesn't have a listing for this year bike and RM-ATV doesn't list the manufacturer ID. Thanks.

yes, the AG-801. it will fit in this bike, and pretty much all the ktm bikes back to the 98' 520's

I have the same Highway Dirt Bike handle bar set up and it’s terrible if you’re an aggressive rider. They are so rigid that there is no flex at all on the handlebars. Really hard on my wrists on a long day and I’ll never use a mount like that for hand guards again. Sweet bike though and some of those parts used gave me some ideas for the mods I want to do to my old sad looking 500!

best of luck on your bike build. the HDB set up is unrivaled in it's design and execution, however you have a good point. some riders notice the rigidity of them and feel it in their wrists. and there are some great solutions out there. probably the best might be flexxbars with fastway bark busters with the nylon washers at the clamp point. check out the interwebs for those products and reviews.

I had a question about the turn signals. I just bought a pair, I started to drill in the same spot that you have them. However the length of the threaded peice on the signal are too long too fit in the channel where the wires should go. Did you have to cut the signal or use washers to gain clearance?

Small item but what is the reference for those pro grips they look like a very good compromise feel/damper, can’t locate them. I’ve used rally foam grips and like them but they are on the comfort side vs the feel, would like to give these a try ...

Debating on getting the 500 exc-f or 350 exc-f but I’m concerned I’m going to be making a bad choice. I want to go on the road regularly so the 500 might be better but on the dirt I feel like it would be too much, the 350 would be better on dirt for me,but I don’t know if it’s going to be enough to ride on the street.

it's all from acerbis. note though that their kits don't come with the headlight mask and air box covers. the cover is a separate acerbis part, and the mask is a ktm oem part.

Heard the vortex ecu is the way to go. out performs all the tuners ..just got my euro map tweaked and love it but might have to spend the $$ for the ecu in the near future lol.... man love your bike tho 😊

NaturalAi they set the acceleration fuel settings and changed fuel delivery and rpm ranges... Its also set as having an after market exhaust ..the original euro map is mapped as having the stock exhaust on...I loved the euro map but I could tell the difference getting the tweaked map..... thanks for watching our video. on the ecm, we like to use the stock ecm and program, adjust the TPS a few volts advanced, and add on a fuel injection tuner. we don't have anything against a complete aftermarket ecm like the vortex, we're just going for max performance out of as much of a stock platform as possible. the vortex has had some reliability issues in the past and water proofing problems, but i'm sure they've sorted that out. sometimes we dump a bike in the ocean in baja and cant take any changes.

HoboMoped if I’m just looking to get a slip on pipe I’m I fine with the JD 6X ? Is there a better one to get like the JD 6X that’s simple? It seems like people have to jump thru hoops to get these euro maps. Great vid and narration too!

as we say in the video, if you change anything in the intake or exhaust system from stock then you need more fuel. and you have various options for that. the one we like is to plug in a fuel injection tuner. we like the EJK by dobeck performance. they OEM this device to JD, FMF, and various others. it's plug and play, gives you 6 throttle positions to tune, and makes a huge difference with the lean issues that come up with any exhaust mod. we've tried all the other options and permutations to get more fuel, and this is the one that we like the best.

yep, everyone has their own version of blue. same problem with all the orange bits you might want to add to a bike. it's pretty maddening. the only way to get uniformity is to find an anodizer in your area and have them strip and color all your pieces all at the same time. it's EXPENSIVE to do it this way but it ensures perfection of thta's what you're after.

The problem is there isn't an exact science to anodizing the colour depends on tint and time in the dye etc the can vary from batch to batch let alone different companies

it took a few test runs and some playing around. we also use the dobeck performance www.safrtool.com/ to test the fuel in real driving conditions to get the ratio bang on. then this bike is an all out rocket.

Bad-ass build !! Did you use an inline resistor on the MotoGadget rear blinkers, and if so, what value did you choose ?? I have a '15 FE501S and thinking about adding the rear blinkers. Also, where can I find that material you wrapped on the header to keep the heat off the shock ?

i wish. that's a $5k-6k engine mod job by the time it's all installed, rebuilt and ready to ride. no one really needs that kind of power on the dirt - that's a snow bike set up. why do you ask? you looking to build a 90hp dirt bike?!

just seeing if you have done builds like this with big bore kit's one i would go for is the 450's 540 big bore kit and ktm make a 690 husqvarna 701 honda had a 700 and maico has there 685 2t so i would not say it would make the ktm 500 a snow bike

Do the signals burn amber when im running light mode? Or do they burn clear?

running lights are amber at a low level, then much brighter in amber at flash.

Great build and video. Inspiring me to do some of the same mods. I have a 2018 500 EXC and installed the rear Motogadget M Blaze turn signals and they worked great, I then installed the Rage front turn signals and they cause both the Blaze to flash at the same time when turn signal is used. Hook back up the stock fronts and everything is fine. Any ideas? Thanks

Zachary flowers man, that’s a good question. I don’t know where we got the sticker kit from. The owner sourced that himself. I’ll need to dig a bit to find that out. Sorry I didn’t know straight away.

well, it depends on who you ask. we've bought and tested all the tire inflation systems out there, and in my humble opinion at he bottom of the list is a traditional tube, at the top of the list is tire balls, and just under them is a mousse. there's generally 3 flavors of mousse in terms of feel - the most lively and responsive is the NirtoMouses, in the middle zone is the michelin, and the softest or most 'neutral' is the motoz super mousse. that's my favorite. a mousse doesn't transit the deflection of the tire carcass back into the bike, doesn't roll the tire in side-flex in cornering, and never flats you out. it can be an acquired taste to some, but i'd say well worth experiencing to see what you think.

it really is. we just did a test the other day of the new acerbis x-seat. it looks fantastic, so futuristic and cool - but it's quite terrible on the ass. it's light, comes in lots of color combinations and looks great in photos, but very firm foam and super uncomfortable. the seat concepts saddles are the best in the industry.
