2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4x4 Z71
The video pretty much tells all. Bottom line is the tires and a very slight front drop look real good.
There is rubbing on upper control arms, but only at a hard lock turn.
The Bilsteins 5100 are the absolute best shock made today for these trucks.
The OEM Rancho left front shock broke internally and would not rebound, with a whole 25,000 miles on the clock!
Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!

Just so everybody knows I have the same truck with 2.5 level. I rub the upper control arm at 3/4 lock when suspension is compressed with a 10.5 w tire. So I’m rubbing slightly pretty often.

Thanks for the info on the video. I do have a question on the Bilsteins front end. What was the overall height after the suspension has setting in from the ground to the fender. Thanks

Maybe welting on a steering stop blade to lower control arm will fix the rub

Just wondering if the turning demonstration you did where it shows it running the upper control arm, was it at a full HARD lock in the video? I'm thinking about getting the Toyo Open Country 33x12.50" tires for my stock 22" Denali rims, thanks!

@pmtips4482
@pmtips4482 4 года назад
The owner loves the ride the 5100s give him. The Z71s rode and handled the absolute best when GM installed Bilsteins as OEM. Ranchos are hit and miss, this truck had never been off-road yet the left front Rancho broke internally and would not rebound, at the 25,000 mile mark. The best driving, riding, and handling vehicle I ever owned was a 1996 Chevy Tahoe (Bilsteins was OEM) GM and their bean counters will break the company.........again.

Kyle, from what I saw with this truck in the video, a 1 inch spacer should be about perfect. This truck only slightly rubbed at a fairly hard lock (to lock) turn. Best of luck to you and thanks for watching!

He put the shocks all around. The rubbing was only in extreme lock to lock steering. You could think about wheel spacers but then you have to decide do you really mind the tires sticking out another half inch. Thanks for watching!

Hi There, I have -12 Offset 18x9" Fuel Mavericks (it has the same bolt pattern and 4.5 backspace from my 2010 Toyota Tacoma) and I wish to put that on a '19 Silverado 1500 LD Light Duty pickup. 1. Will the wheels clear the brakes 2. Will the tires (33x12.50r18) clear the upper control arms? Thanks in Advance!

@pmtips4482 4 года назад
Hi Keneaux, in short....I can't answer that question. You need to consult with a 4x4 shop because those guys deal with issues like yours on a weekly basis. It is worth a trip to your nearest shop to discuss the matter as it could save you tons of hassles. My limited experience with this stuff is.....there is always a compromise. Thanks for watching and good luck in your findings!

37s on the Raptor would look awesome! You're right though, you could get into some tricky territory on the suspension rubs. Before you do it, it might pay to drop in on a truck performance shop. Those guys see a lot of different situations and sometimes flat out know what will work with minimal cost. Thanks for watching and I appreciate you commenting!

@danielsmith8659
@danielsmith8659 4 месяца назад
I didn’t think you were supposed to adjust those shocks to gain lift. I thought the purpose in that adjustment was to compensate the amount of dampening the shock does depending on how much lift you already had. So say you had a 1” level , you would adjust the shock to position saying you have 1” of lift.
@pmtips4482
@pmtips4482 3 месяца назад
The customer claimed he called Bilstein and they told him it was fine to make the adjustments. You don't have much adjustment to work with, maybe about 2 inches max. Thanks!

Do you know if a 2.5 inch lift/spacer would solve this problem?
@pmtips4482
@pmtips4482 4 года назад
Not in this particular situation. The only thing to do (and keep the same height) is to have wheels with more negative offset. The tire needs to be further away from the upper control arm. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Pm Tips I have some 33x12.5r18’s BFGs that I got for a good deal so they’re in my garage. I want to put them in my truck but I don’t know what to put so it doesn’t rub. I have a motofab lift (2.5) also sitting in my garage. 0 offset wheels? -18’s? +18’s? If you have any ideas let me know! Thanks!

@@danielmora3843 I would highly recommend you pay a visit to your nearest 4x4 truck performance shop and talk to those guys. They see a lot of different situations come in the shop every week and most can answer your questions on the spot. On the offset of the Chevy in this video (OEM wheels), his offset is a positive 24mm (or almost an inch). So if he went to a positive offset of 10mm he would be getting in better shape. The problem is the tire will now start to stick out the side the exact amount you move the offset. The owner is just careful during lock to lock turns, but he is not a hard core off roader. Hope this helps!

@jakeryt3176

Anything negative, stock wheels aren’t wide at all and I believe they’re 0 offset, if not positive. The wider the wheel/ tire and the “lower” (negative) the offset the more they’ll stick out

Go taller not wider, I have 265/70-18 = 32.6 inch tall tire, 10.46 inch width, no lift, no level and no rubbing whatsoever. Anything with more than 2 inches of lift without dropping the front diff is going to wear your CV axles out prematurely and by all means get upper control arms designed for your level or lift.

You could try half inch wheel spacers (assuming your lug bolts will accommodate them). Some don't like the concept of extending the tire out (myself included). This customer just doesn't turn a hard lock turn. Thanks for watching!
