I have a 2018 power wagon, absolutely love it.I grew up driving the 70's Dodge trucks and it brought back a lot of great memories. Its a beast to say the least but was pleasantly surprised with fuel mileage,on a 600 mile one way trip did 18mpg going there and 16mpg coming back in rain and stormy conditions.Everyday driving between 14 &15 mpg.
I have a 2005 Power Wagon and just bought a 2017 Power Wagon. Lots has changed in 12 years. The new one has everything the old one has and much more. Although the Power Wagons are rated for less payload than a standard Ram 2500, it's more than enough for my needs. Ram did this to make it more off road capable. The Power Wagon will go anywhere a Jeep Wrangler can as long as it will fit on the trail.I happen to like the decals, brings me back to when I was a kid seeing the "Macho Power Wagon" from the '70's. I was going to buy a 3500 Dually, but after driving a Power Wagon the last 12 years, I had to stick with Old Reliable. The Dually was $5,000 cheaper but offered les than the Power Wagon other than towing and payload capacity.I'm happy with my decision.
If you want a really cheap version you can get a tradesman trim with a Powerwagon package that gives all the suspension, winch, and other base Powerwagon features for quite a bit less.
Cobb this is my plan. I want the vinyl seats and floor. They’re much easier to clean after a long day in the woods or on the water. I don’t need most of the fancier upgrades I just want the off-road capability
you have no idea about off road. i can see clear you have never done heavy ovealanding. Power wagon is only one in class does same thing as Wrangler Rubicon. You are clueless. I wish you do research before review such truck and compare them properly. Like Tundra TRD Pro doesn't have front locker at all, even rear ! it's only rear slip diff, and front normal open , and operates by crawl control as braking. None of truck has option sway bar disconnect. Your review sucks ! You need to compare like to Tacoma TRD Pro, or Chevy Colorado ZR2 or Ford Ranger with off road package. Yes those trucks are smaller but do a good job for off road. As Said none ½ or ¾ or between like Titan trucks will same job better than RAM. Most full size trucks will need lift ! this is coming wit 14 inch, and it can fit 37 inch tires as is, with small trim on front fender. You are clueless , man!
The fold flat floors are nice for groceries, pets, cargo, etc... Don't feel wonky to me at all, take two seconds to setup, and I've used mine a million times over four years and they're still rock solid with groceries, tools, pets, etc all riding on it. I'd say they're withstanding the test of time just fine.
You missed lots, factory lift, sway bar disconnect, true locking axles, softer off road not payload suspension,4.10 gears, aggressive tread, and Warn 12000# winch. BoyHowdy friend PowerWagons have been in a class of there own for a long time.
My neighbor has the tradesman version without the decals, and like most people with trucks he has camo seat covers on. He said he saved $20K in options and didn't take RAM box cause he has a 5th wheel. The only problem he's had were the KO2's which aren't made for heavy work and he's definitely hard on it too. Thanks 4 the review.
I understand a lot of the viewpoints he presents but I disagree with them in the context of the vehicle and its purpose. It is just my opinion though. You also can't compare the specs as he does as it doesn't make sense to compare them especially when your talking as he states, capabilities.
Hi Jake... the F-150 is pretty impressive for cruising. Seats in the new Titan are top rate. And, provided you're not too concerned about a weak payload/towing capacity, the Tundra is a very comfortable choice, too.
I am very interested to see how the new ram 1500 compares to the f 150. With coil springs in the rear and optional air suspension, it should make for a really nice ride.
Boo - Too bad I would love to be able to buy one. You've covered the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek; you've covered the 2017 Subaru Impreza. Will you be covering the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek even though it's essentially a lifted 2017 Impreza?
You can get it in a much cheaper Tradesman package without the decals you dislike so much. It would be a standard work truck with all the Power Wagon goodies.
Why do people keep crying about payload capacities. It’s a Power Wagon! What don’t they get about off road suspension, shocks, and tires! I can’t be compared to any other 3/4 ton as it’s in a market all to itself.
in regards to telescoping steering in off road conditions it is a negative feature. more to brake! back up camera? we're off roading no highway transport here!
Raptor is a desert runner who can crawl if you want. Power Wagon is a crawler who can handle slower speed desert running. They’re very different beast built for very different tasks. The Raptor is the truck to buy if you want a street legal trophy truck. The Power Wagon is the truck to buy if you want a go almost anywhere, do almost everything beast that you can use to rescue all your friends. Both are very nice though.
The solid axle, dixonnecting swaybar, front diff locker, and wheel articulation are great off road features, but it definitely doesn't have 14 inches of ground clearance. The distance between the differentials and the ground is closer to 8 inches. The size and weight , as well as the lack of visibility also are not ideal for an Offroad vehicle. Now if Ram could find a way to equip the 1500 trucks with a solid front axle, a front Locker, disconnecting sway bar, rear springs, and throw in a higher gear ratio in the differentials and transfer case and some shocks comprable to those on the Tacoma Pro and ZR2, they would have the perfect off-road truck. Then again I just described a Jeep Rubicon truck.
I've been inside one of this mammoth beast of a truck, definitely humongous even someone at 6+ tall frame dude will take some effort to get inside the truck without a running board. I felt like a midget beside it but some people I guess like this kind of truck. I prefer the size of a Ram Rebel.
How is the Toyota’s interior superior to Dodge? Toyota’s interior is 10 years behind that of a Mitsubishi Eclipse. Their interior hasn’t changed. Plus, not to mention, you’re comparing apples to oranges. The PW is in a league of its own. The most capable off road truck around...not some desert runner or an ‘asphalt city grocery getter poser truck’.
Still looks cheap, is a combination of cheap parts from other dodge leftover vehicles, no regards to the drivers comfort. It rattles and parts com off from the cheap plastic garbage. The Toyota tundra is lighter, bigger fuel tank, more payload, same tow max, better performance and reliability with a much better cabin.
News that matter even though ram truck ride comfort is above all the trucks and the tundra doesn't come close to the big 3. Tundra have a fake hood scoop and same engine from last year. It all shows in their sales.
The Toyota has nowhere near as much offroad capability. The Ram has locking rear, center, front differentials. It also has a disconnecting front seat bar as well as a 12k winch. If you actually bounce these trucks down horrible roads like I do, the Ram is much better.
