Another banger man, what a way to get to the track! How annoying is the GoPro rule though aye, I noticed that you had them on the chest mount and the front mudguard in this video, sad that those are your two best options now. I've completely stopped going to any events under FIM rule for that reason, thankfully two of out biggest off road events are actually run completely independently but out national motocross, cross country and enduro championships are all no go's.
I quite like the chest mount view, as it shows a lot more of the rider working and a bit more of a grounded view of the track ahead, but the front guard is a pain, it only mounts on Yamaha's and now with the new 2018 YZ guard it won't work on any bikes from next year onwards. Definitely running out of viable options that don't get in the way...
I run mine on the end of the mouthpiece, I'm sure you've heard of people doing that already but in case you haven't check it out it's in all of my videos. I'd be interested to know what your thoughts on it are.
Yeah, similar to just under the peak, I think that provides a better view (than on top) as its closer to the riders eye-line so your essentially seeing what they see, but as far as I know they still disallow that as it's not a part of the original helmet design. The hardest part is some of the top guys you want to run them on hate running them during races (as obviously money is on the line) so you've gotta try and be as unobtrusive as possible, that's the only good thing about the front guard as it's not getting in the riders way at all.
Yeah you're not allowed to run them at events either unfortunately. For me it's the best angle because like you mentioned it's almost inline with the rider's eyesight, the under the peak mount is a close second but it doesn't work on most helmets and when it does work you almost always have to angle it way down to get the peak out of the shot where as with the chin mount you can get the best of both worlds, angled up so that you can see the track ahead but with the bars in the bottom of the shot too. Most pro riders are a bit hesitant to wear it but once they do they swear by it especially with the little GoPro session on it you completely forget it's there. I've had Josh Coppins, Courtney Duncan, Cody Cooper and Brad Groombridge all race with it to name a few and none of them were hindered by its presence, might be worth considering for your videos in which you're allowed to use them such as edits and bike launches etc.
Yeah most of the work I do is MA affiliated in some way, shape or form, so the helmet mounting is a big no no, which sucks. But it'd definitely be a cool angle to use should the opportunity arise, only issue is I only have the big bulky (in comparison) Hero 4 Black, not the Session haha
Most of them run on Facebook directly now, as theres a lot better interaction, I only really use RU-vid as a backup if it were to be shared on a website as it's embed player is better than Facebook's.
