I recently traded in my 2013 Equus Ultimate, for the same-trim-level G90 RWD....the refinement in the brand continues to climb and we have been very happy with each automobile.

did you get v8? not sure if you test drove v6 twin turbo but does v8 give better ride quality?

i own a Lexus LS 430 and there is no substitute for horsepower. i would always purchase a v8 naturally aspirated over a v6 turbo

I own a 2013 Genesis with the standard motor. Very nice driving car. Better than the BMW and Porsches that I have owned in the past. Fly's below the radar, most people don't even know what it is. In 65K miles, not one issue. I would buy another. My daughter turns 16 next month, and wants me to give her the car. I don't think so !!

I liked this review. Thanks for the follow up with the 8 cylinder. I liked the part about the easy of driving in tight spaces. One thing I always appreciated about Lexus with the LS is the tight turning circle. Less stress while maneuvering in tight spaces and parking is imo overlooked. If I were buying one in three years after depreciation drops the price I would take the V8 rwd. The price difference will be very small at that point, and I would be much more comfortable with reliability without the turbos, plus things like the bigger brakes are nice too. The V6 may turn out to be as or more reliable than the 8 but I would still prefer the bigger engine. Anyway, the 6 gets only a very small improvement in fuel economy also I would not be concerned with the little bit of extra weight up front in a chassis such as this.

I drive an E-Class (2015) and can only say it just feels like a bank vault. No squeaks, rattles, doesn't float at any speed and isn't deflected by bumps. When I bought it, the brochure showed all the places where high strength steel was used and it seemed quite a lot. The car is relatively light for it's size, and that's also how it feels on the road - tight but agile. Can't compare it to the Genesis because I've never driven one or even been in one.

G80 owner says get the v8!! Reliability and ease of maintenance over a prolonged ownership experience to me is worth it over the turbo v6. Plus you get massaging rear seats.

I went from a S550 with the AMG pkg. to a G80 3 years ago with hardly a complaint other than badging. I recently ordered a G90 Ultimate. My G80 cost me ZERO $$ in maintenance other than oil changes ($40) and a set of wipers. It’s still so tight and quiet I’m giving it to my fiancé to replace her Lexus gs350. Hyundai ( er, um Genesis) is making superior vehicles at 30% less than the big names. I’m all in!

Last year (2023) I bought a 2017 G90 V8 AWD. With only 19,000 miles on it (I have no idea what the first owner was doing for 6 years). Bought it for $35,000. No accidents, perfect condition. You see now, the value really starts to shine, which is one thing I love about it. But as for the V6 vs V8, I actually dumped a Kia Stinger GT2 to get this G90, so I have had both engines. The V6 is very good, but come on, at the end of the day, you gotta do the V8... its about what it stands for, and honestly I would have a tough time living with myself knowing I bought the little one. Go big or go home lol.
7 лет назад
when you says mb and bmw ONLY cost more 30k you have to mention thats almost 50% of the price of the genesis. NA engines require less maintence and are way more trouble-free than FI ,so i belive the NA V8 is the better choice.

Can any owners of this 2017 model year verify how their reliability has been and if anything has needed repair? Thanks.

Found this on reddit. Best answer that you are looking for. I used to be a Hyundai technician. The 2015 Genesis was actually the last car I went to training on before I quit. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis was only around for a little over 2 years. It has since been slightly modified and is now known as the Genesis G80. Genesis is now its own brand, not a model. The 2015 Genesis has a choice of 2 engines, either a 3.8 liter V6 or a 5.0 liter V8. Rear wheel drive is standard, but all wheel drive is available on the V6 models. However, if you are in Canada, Hyundai did offer a special all wheel drive V8 model that the USA didn't get. Since most 2015 Genesis are V6 models with all wheel drive, I'll focus on that. As for reliability, these cars are great. Starting with the engine, it is the Lambda II RS GDi. It is related to the smaller 3.3 liter V6 found in the Hyundai Azera, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sedona, Kia Sorento, and Kia Cadenza. They're good engines and have been out long enough that all of the bugs have been worked out. The biggest thing you have to watch out for is carbon buildup on the intake valves and nozzles on the fuel injectors. Since this engine is direct injected, it is susceptible to carbon buildup. Hyundais don't suffer half as bad as some other brands, but it can still be an issues. Hyundai has you pouring a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the fuel tank at every oil change. That takes care of the carbon on the fuel injector nozzles. As for the intake valves, I highly recommend performing an induction service every 30,000 miles. An induction service is when carbon cleaning chemicals are sprayed into the engine's air intake while it is running. Most, if not all Hyundai dealers offer this service since most of the company's engines are direct injected. You could also just use a can of Sea Foam or any other type of carburetor/intake cleaner and have it sucked into the engine. Doing this service will greatly reduce the chances of needing an expensive valve cleaning. The transmission is a traditional 8 speed automatic with a torque converter. Nothing fancy. It is a Hyundai design and built using Borg Warner parts. It is not related to the ZF 8 speed transmission found in other luxury cars today. It has been out since 2012 and was first put in the Genesis coupe. Its smooth, fast, and reliable. Hyundai claims that you don't have to change the fluid under normal use. Ignore them and change it every 60,000 miles. Do not flush the transmission. Just drain and refill the transmission, or you can use a low pressure fluid exchanger. Hyundai actually does recommend changing the fluid every 60,000 miles under severe use. Guess what? Most people's every day driving would fall under severe use, lol. Hyundai considers stop-and-go traffic, winter climates, and dusty/salty roads severe, haha. Also under "severe use", Hyundai says to change the differential oil every 75,000 miles. I would personally do it along with the transmission service at 60,000 miles. AWD models have a front differential in addition to a rear one, so change its fluid too at 75k. Now, onto some of the not-so-good things. The "HTrac" AWD system. Hyundai's AWD system isn't new. Its new to Hyundai, but not a new development. The transfer case is made by Magna, and is almost identical to the same one found in BMW with "xDrive" all wheel drive, which the current design been around for a long time. I think it came out sometime in the late 90s when the BMW X5 was released. xDrive has had a lot of issues in the past. Modern BMWs aren't known to have many AWD issues, so hopefully the design that Hyundai is using has all of the bugs worked out. I would recommend changing the transfer case fluid every 60,000 miles. However, Hyundai doesn't have any information on it. I can't even find out what fluid it takes or how much it takes, let alone how to actually change it. If its anything like the BMWs, which it should be, fluid changes are crucial. Apparently Hyundai doesn't think so, so I guess you don't have to. If I owned an AWD Genesis, I would find a way to change it. Suspension bushings aren't all that durable. They weren't in the old Genesis either. I'm pretty sure you can't replace just the bushings either, you have to replace the whole arm. The arms are aluminum, so they're not cheap. The front suspension of the Genesis has a total of 8 ball joints, 4 of each side. And of course they're cast into the control arms, so changing just the ball joint is impossible. You have to change the entire arm. Avoid pot holes and curbs like the plague because suspension damage gets pricey real fast on this car. Lots of aluminum and lots of parts to break. Other than that, they're pretty cheap to buy and to maintain. They are just Hyundais after all. Parts aren't as expensive as a BMW or Audi, or even Lexus. Labor costs aren't sky high. They're actually pretty simple cars underneath all the fancy features. Oh, and on models with the smaller 7 inch navigation display get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If its not already installed, its a completely free upgrade! Just go to Hyundai's website and follow the instructions. A lot of Genesis owners don't know that their cars can be upgraded for free. Models with the larger 8 inch display aren't compatible, unfortunately, so that's basically every single V8 model and fully optioned V6 models.

Genesis G90 is a awesome vehicle it sits on the throne when it comes to luxury automobile makers, reliabilty of a Toyota and as luxury as some $100,000.00 dollar automobiles, Hyundai built this car extremely well and the G80 5.0, even going back to the Genesis before these models where built to last for year after year.

The difference between the V6 and and v8 is subtle because the additional 55 hp and 7 lb-ft of torque is moderately canceled out by the extra 121 lbs of curb weight. The 5.0 AWD weighs over 4900 lbs. These are heavy cars with heavy engines. The 5.0 AWD is just about two Miata's worth of vehicle.

Awesome automobile interior and exterior, reliability is a 10! You can keep Mercedes, BMW, Audi, even Lexus even though the reliability is the same as Genesis both excellent, keep Cadillac unless it's a V model and Jaguar. Genesis forever! Magnificent brand.

This is a really great vehicle. Hyundai definitely needs an updated V8. Extremely excited to see the new LS500 and where it sits. I *would* take the V8 over the other choices as well, especially in BMWs where they cost cut way too much in the I4 and I6. Also, I can assure you the W222 is more rigid than the G90.

Yes I would opt for the V/8 , because I own a '09 Genesis 4.6 V/8 and my Brother owns an '09 Genesis 3.8 V/6 and I could tell the difference right away . my car felt more substantial . The V/6 I found was not as smooth as the V/8 . Now the G90, I test drove both engines and I did not like the V/6 because It did not sound like a high end car, but I guess thats a matter of preference . The V/8 was quiet and silky smooth not so for the V/6. I felt a slight vibration that might not be noticeable to the average luxury car driver. Plus I like a car with a naturally aspirated engine ,no turbo charging or super charging for me because it makes the engine more complex than it already is. And lastly I'm old school and in this class of car only a V/8 should live there , let the new schoolers have the V/6

I own a 2015 Lexus LS460 Crafted Line V8 very smooth/quiet so would have to say V8 all the way. You buy a big car for the V8 like BMW 750, S Class, A8 and the G90V8 you don't care about GAS, you can afford it. V8 is like a whole new different level. You want to save gas, it a Prius.

I have a 2016 Jaguar XJ and I previously owned a 2012 BMW 750li. I also own a BMW M3 as my fun car. We also have a Lexus RX for the family. For my large luxury car I want it to be relaxing, enjoyable and not overwhelming. I have driven the G90 extensively with the V6. Genesis let me have a car for about 3 days and I put on over 300kms. I enjoyed the car so much that my XJ felt down market when I went back to it. The G90 is not as engaging as the XJ but is better than my old 2012 750li (400hp V8). Overall when putting it all together, the XJ is a little more fun to drive but the G90 is a better luxury car. In Canada the G90 is a significant discount versus a similarly equipped BMW, Mercedes or even the Lexus LS 500. For the price difference one could buy a new well equipped corolla or civic or even Camry or Accord. That’s a big difference. I don’t care at all about brand image. Just because a person drives a certain type of car doesn’t make them better or different from others. I have decided to buy a 2019 G90. Only questions are V6 or V8 ( price difference isn’t the issue) and the colour. Leaning towards white (never had a white car) and the V8. I am really hoping Genesis does well however sales both in Canada and the US of the G90 seem very low. Most people seem to like large SUVs, but I have always loved large luxury sedans. Looking for to getting the G90 in late 2018

If it's up to me, I'd go for the V8, a V8 suits the luxury theme better and it sure has to have other advantages such as better sound and lower maintenance cost...of coarse not to mention the fact that the rear seat power adjustment is only available for the V8 models now I do have a question for you, I have no pets and I'm not that into them, dont the dog's claws cause damage to the seats -scratches or may be tearing or so-?

If you could program the G90 for a 50/50 torque split- would it be best for driving/traction..dynamically speaking?
@dsrandomvideos
@dsrandomvideos Год назад
Late reply but I can tell you in "smart mode" it's about 50/50 and I can take off hard on pure ice or snow anytime in a straight line without a problem. In Sport mode it's nearly 100% to the rear (I think the manual says 80%) and I can do nice donuts or drift anytime in the winter, even with ESC on, though the seatbelt will tighten and the car does try to prevent you from being reckless. I think I read that the only 100% RWD mode is actually Eco, though that mode also keeps things real smooth and tries to keep the engine under 2000 rpm unless you're flooring it, so it's hard to tell in terms of powerslides and so on. Overall it's a great AWD system that does a great job on terrible roads but also lets you have fun and keeps the feel of a RWD car, depending on the mode you use.

I owned a Hyundai Genesis sedan the first generation and I bought it because I worked there I realized it was a good vehicle for the price, second hand not at release the warranty was good and the sound system was amazing and the overall driving Dynamics were okay I looked at a Hyundai Equus to purchase when I totaled my Hyundai Genesis, only for the amenities like the reclining rear seat in the refrigerator the only thing I wish they would have kept were some of those amenities even though they did not really fit in United State market but it made the car that much more special, I will eventually purchase a Genesis g90 after a couple of years on the market the price will be so much better because the depreciation on these vehicles are outrageous.

We don't get this, the best one they do in the uk is the i40 (1.8l diesel) , which is decent. They now do the iconiq, ( petrol + EV. i think the plan is to fade the i40 out), the iconiq is a big step down in the interior department though. This thing looks excellent. Do they do a 4cly turbo. As v6 & is V8 won't fly in the uk. (fuel prices suck).

MotoMan, whats up with the "sadly, they are trying to lease a lot of these things" comment. Is it leasing in general and/or is it specific to this car or class? Please share. Thanks!
@MotoManTV
@MotoManTV 7 лет назад
As I have mentioned in MANY episodes of the show, leasing is the MOST expensive way to acquire a vehicle. I have released two personal finance related episodes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VKfNA_jA4HE.html&t ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-071XkCQyotM.html However, will be releasing an episode specifically about leasing and how it negatively affects your net worth. That said, as it relates to this specific car, if the lease v buy percentage - meaning the percentage of people that are leasing a specific vehicle as opposed to buying them - is too high, that has a very negative impact on resale value. It is the market telling the OEM, 'we don't value your car for what you think it is worth'. For example, Jaguars and Land Rovers/Range Rovers have a very unsafe lease v buy percentage 80 into 90 % and as such, they have abysmal resale value. That is my concern here for an otherwise stellar vehicle.

For me to consider a Genesis over a Merc, the Genesis would need to have a beast of a twin turbo V-8 with high torque from 2,000 thru 5,000 revs and a dual clutch trans...and a firmer suspension with AWD. (I drive a lowly E350 station wagon...but am waiting for the 2018 E63 AMG station wagon to see about a trade in.)

I'd be more impressed if you drove a Ford Raptor through the narrow streets of historic Venice Canals, since that is almost 1 foot wider than those luxury sedans! I would opt for the V8, for all the reasons the other viewers have stated, but some maintenance costs, such as oil changes, are about double the cost. After all, its over 7 quarts. I currently own a 2016 Mustang GT, and if I needed a family sedan, this would be it.

@ginoz531, so if Apple's lead designer goes to Samsung, and makes a Galaxy S9 that looks exactly like the iPhone 7+, you'd be okay with it? Lol. It's one thing to take design cues here and there. But you'd never mistaken a Lexus with an Infiniti, with an Audi, with a BMW, with a Mercedes. They all have distinct designs that make them what they are. You delete Kia and Hyundai from the history books, and show us this design, there's a pretty high chance you'd associate it with one of those aforementioned companies.

I love German engineering. just love it. the handling, the overall experience. reading all the maintenance horror stories, insane purchase price, & the low 3 year residuals have kept me away. I drive a RAM truck now. It has the V8 performance I like, it also has a huge roomy interior. The advantages are safety by being high in the air , sedans are at my tire level. plus trucks have fantastic resale value & can get a fully loaded luxury model for $45000. Try a RAM 1500 Longhorn sometime...its pretty awesome & a great value. I used to own LS460's & MB S classes before.

The only comparison I can make, on a personal level, to the comfort and amenities afforded on the G90 would be with my Lexus GS350. Although, I believe the Lexus LS460 would be a bit closer to the G90. I think Kumo made a good argument for the 3.6 V6 G90 as opposed to the V8 in this review. Personally, I'd stick with the V6 if I were in the market for that make and model.

Honestly at first I loved the car, it has all the options that are in the nice luxury full size sedans but for a lower price. Then I started to realize that Hyundai just took all of the styling from other companies. For example the back seats are very identical to the Audi A8. I won't be getting one, instead I'll just wait for the 2018 Audi A8.

You do realize that Peter Screyer, the mastermind behind Audi is with team Hyundai/Kia now right? A lot of people fail to realize this and then make accusations that hold no weight.. How can Peter copy Peter? The reality is, other companies are copying Hyundai/Kia now... Look at Mazda completely ripping off of Hyundai/Kia designs now... SMH.

I'll sell you my Audi. I spend at least $800 a month in repairs. The coil packs go out at least twice a year. The headliner is falling off after 3 years. I hate my fucking Audi so fucking much. I'm upside down on the loan though so I keep the piece of shit.

Is it safe to assume you're talking about 2013 or 2014 model? I ask because I was considering buying a CPO.

Video takes forever just getting to the point.Guy spends more time rambling about nonsense than about the car.
