Love your videos. You get straight to the point and you tell it as it is. You are naturally hilarious, I don't think you even try too . Please keep up the good work.

I just filled up. Trip meter read 39.5, but pump calculation was 44.1. I use the adaptive cruise control and it does help improve the gas mileage. The only negative I can say about the adoptive cruise control is that if somebody slows down in front of you, it takes longer to get back up to speed then if you did it yourself. Oh, and I'm in Texas so this is in 100 F heat

Hey Chad, your Honda Accord Hybrid is the THE BEST! There are tons of reviews on hybrid cars. And the primary reason why people buys hybrid is because of FUEL ECONOMY. One can spend a whole week on youtube and search for actual MPGs as claimed, BUT GOOD LUCK finding one. All they talk about is ride, comfort, looks and performance and etc. They never review the ACTUAL MPG. what a waste of time on non-sense review. WE don't need to know more about their looks and pricing. Anyone can figure that out. DEALERS wont let us test drive their hybrid cars for 80 miles to find out the car's REAL WORLD MPG. That being said, you have the BEST REVIEW of the accord hybrid. Now, I can't wait 'till I see your review on HYUNDAI IONIC HYBRID. I have already watched all the videos out there. All they talk about is the MPG based on the sticker. wasted my time watching and waiting for the actual MPG, with NO LUCK!

In terms of fuel economy it definitely won't beat a regular Prius, but given how quiet, supple & luxurious the Accord Hybrid is, I think a tradeoff of ~5MPG is worthwhile considering how much better of a 'car' the Honda is.

On average, I get 42MPG. About 70% highway, 30% city. Main commute is 42 miles going down about 350 ft in elevation at an average of 50mph, and 42 miles going 350 ft back up to home at an average of 67mph. On the highway, I set ACC at a max of 72mph, making sure to scan the road ahead and plan out any application of the brakes to maintain as much forward momentum as possible. Using this driving style, I average about 45mpg going to work, and 40mpg going home. Although, once I start to get spirited, subtract about 5-10 MPG from those numbers. My lowest was about 33mpg going home, going 75mph on average. Overall...slow acceleration, but not honking slow acceleration, was performed. If I knew I would be stopping at the very next light for a while, or have to stop for a bit, I would accelerate just enough to hopefully still be moving by the time the traffic ahead starts moving forward. My best in the city was 55mpg, with a temporary spike to 71mpg. Overall, the usual "Your mileage may vary" statement applies strongly here. Going down in elevation? Higher MPG. Going higher in elevation? Lower MPG. Slower average speed? More MPG. Faster average speed? Less. Getting higher MPG with hybridized/electrified vehicles essentially becomes a game of how well you can preserve momentum, using as little energy as possible. EPA estimates don't rate these vehicles accurately, which causes major outcry from those who don't know any better.

I will not argue with his is testing methods and results. I've had a Touring Hybrid since Nov 2016 in Wisconsin, a cold weather climate. When I take trips driving at 75 I'm getting 38 MPG with A/C 40 without. My driving is 50% Highway-50 Suburban with top speeds only about 70 mph. My MPG in the summer/tank is 49 mpg & 40 in the winter. I have tanks in the summer where I am getting over 50 MPG. There is a sweet spot of 40 to 60 mph without a lot of lights in the suburbs where you can easily get over 50 MPG on a tank. Cold weather and speeds over 75 basically negate the Hybrid and it turns into a regular car and you will only get 35 to 38 MPG.
@chadhaire1711
@chadhaire1711 7 лет назад
My Prius tests show 41 mpg in normal weather but 33 mpg in hot 100-120 degree weather, and 45 in cold weather and all the hybrids I have been driving have similar results so I don't know what else I can tell you. For me hotter is worse, cooler is better.

Vey good video and it is 100% correct about the MPG. I purchased the car last November and got about 3000 Miles in it so far and I'm averaging 39 MPG. What I do not understand is the gas tank capacity is 15.8 gallons and when you fill it up, the screen indicate that you have 620 miles to travel. If Honda estimating the average is 48MPG, I would assume the screen should be showing 750 Miles to travel. No one at Honda can answer my question.
@chadhaire1711
@chadhaire1711 7 лет назад
39 mpg x 15.8 gallons = 616 miles so the gauge is at 620 miles is accurate. The 48 mpg on the window sticker doesn't have anything to do with anything.

I agree highway mpg won't be in the high 40's especially in below 50 degrees weather. Street driving is above 50 if you are below 50mph almost all the time. I purchased this car in November. I have not taken it on the road for a long trip because of the cold weather. As it gets warmer I will do a long drive to see what mpg I get over all.
@chadhaire1711
@chadhaire1711 7 лет назад
Hybrids dont work well in hot weather--they work better in cold weather as you will see.
@map0824
@map0824 7 лет назад
I will keep an eye on it. Cold weather the engine turns on as soon as I hit start. Since fuel does not vaporize until the engine reaches temperature, fuel economy is not great on a short trip in cold weather. On a longer trip that may not be the same result. Have not had a chance to see what happens in hot temperature yet. I got my car in December and have not driven it on a long trip yet like over 200 miles.
@bryann28
@bryann28 7 лет назад
I think when it warms up a little, your mpg should go up some. Based on my 4 months experience with my 2017 Accord Hybrid, in a temperature range of 10F to about 75F... warmer temperature results in noticeably better mpg. It could be possible that above 75F, at some point, maybe it starts to go back down. As you eluded to, the engine has to run, in order to warm the cabin, in cold weather. Also, in my part of the country, at least, winter gas additives hurts gas mileage.

@eguess6103 7 лет назад
Michael, I've noticed the same with my 2017 Accord Hybrid...that MPG improves in warmer weather. Temps between 25-65F my MPG was between 38-42 MPG in modest city driving. Now in the spring/summer with temps at 80-90F, the MPG in the city is between 44-46. I've even gotten over a dozen ratings as high as 60 MPG (~ 20 miles driven in city). On highway roadtrips (>150 miles) at 70-75mph, I'm between 42-44. I'll keep an eye out on my MPG as temps climb to 95+.

Regarding your comment (at about 13:18), that if someone is claiming 49 mpg, they are lying or driving down a mineshaft... well, my most recent tank (710 miles), I averaged 52 mpg. My previous 2 before that: 50.3 mpg and 51.9 mpg. Since purchase, and in less than ideal conditions, I have averaged ~49 mpg. I have about 3600 miles on my car. In fact, I have monitored a lot of individual drives, and I can count on one hand, the number of average drives (even short ones) that are less than 40 mpg. Once we get off winter gas, and get rid of the need for cabin warming, I anticipate it will even be higher than that. There are lots of people that have documented mileage of 49 or higher, BTW.
@chadhaire1711
@chadhaire1711 7 лет назад

I got mine 10 months ago. At full tank, I only get 41-42mpg on ECO mode, & that's driving like like an old mama. On normal mode. I get 38mpg. No AC, no heater. very easy acceleration from a stop, and gliding (regen) as much as I could if no car behind me. I'm in southern California, sea level. Not sure if that makes a difference. 80% of the time just me, no other passenger. There was once that I was able to get 45mpg on a full tank, but never got that again. That was with more freeway driving than city driving. I now have 6500miles since I got the car. So his review is pretty much very accurate with what I'm getting. I'm not complaining even though I'm not getting what the sticker says. Once my fuel gauge lights up, I usually drive to the gas station within 25miles of driving. Which usually takes 12.3gal to fill up. 12.3gal/month of gas is not bad at all. I used to drive a V6 2003 Highlander. For fourteen years, I get only 17.5mpg on that small sucker. Had 75K miles of it, sold it, what a relief! Again, I'm a very conservative driver, with no heavy foot.

The Scion iA non hybrid gets 38 mpg in the real world and sells for only $18000 under the Toyota badge. I think it makes more sense to me....

Just filled up for the first time, 51.45 mpg over 665 miles (calc from pump). I have a unique drive, all highway with a majority through a metro area with 55 mph limit and traffic. I've noticed the mpg falls above 60 and plummets above 70. Appreciate the real world comparisons. More info is always a good thing.

good video overall, one correction the visors do slide. I know this because I own one. My MPG has being at 40 mpg with me trying to drive as fuel efficient as possible with mostly highway driving, which is not good enough. I was hoping for about 44 or so.

Not all cars have steering wheel controls and they are too slow on the volume--so a knob is still best

From photos of Certified Used Honda Accord Hybrid "base" models that I've been browsing on AutoTrader,, there is a panel of knobs and push buttons located where the lower screen is on the EX-L and Touring models, leaving only that recessed screen at the top of the dash. I agree that the lower screen should have physical knobs. Since I have an iPhone, I do appreciate the Apple CarPlay feature that is not (for now) available even on the 2018 Camry or Avalon Hybrids. (I currently own a 2007 Camry LE but was looking to upgrade to a hybrid in late 2017/early 2018.)

WRONG. If the tank fills at different levels, you can get false readings. If the speedometer is off due to tire size, you can get bad readings. If the speedometer is 5% high, and the computer is 5% low, the computer reading will be accurate, but tank will not. Bottom line, unless the computer has a design flaw, the difference between it and tank reading is rarely more than 3/5%.
