mrmajikjr he looked good first at Tennessee, considering he was the "back up ". you got to wonder how many reps he really got as the back up though. and obviously he was developed right at Perdue. Gators were rough on him but he saved are ass considering.
I don't mind Vern, but I always felt like he was always a play behind when he announced a Gator game. He's also called us Florida State several times....but yeah, CBS will not be the same.
I think what hurt Jim Mcelwain was the quarterback. He had a good one when he first came here in Wil Grier, but then Grier was suspended after Florida started the 2015 season 6-0 and that did them in. He had a real blue chipper in him. Grier then ended up leaving Florida and Mcelwain just never had QB play, which doomed him.
People gave Appleby a lot of hate for how he played as a Gator. But let's be honest here. A lot of the picks he threw weren't his fault, whether it was miscommunication on a route, or the receiver juggled the ball and the defender caught it. He exceeded my expectations and held it down. He lived out his dream to be a gator and went out with a bang. And because of that, he helped us get another 10 win season. (I know it's 9 wins, but let's be honest. The Presbyterian game would've been a W.) And he had an honest and respectable philosophy about the situation he was in. I applaud him and wish him the best with the rest of his life. Chomp chomp.
Jo Mo Appleby always either over threw or under threw the receivers or threw it to a guy getting double teamed. Probably worst QB in Florida history. It's either between him and skyler mornhinweg
John Vaughters that's very true, but consider that he was a graduate transfer from Purdue. Expectations weren't high to begin with. He was FAAAAR from perfect. Trust me. I know. Consider the defenses he played against, though. Lsu. Fsu. Bama. Iowa. All had great defenses. And aside from Deshaun Watson, Appleby actually had the best game as a qb against the tide all year. I'd say half the picks he threw were mostly the receiver's fault. I personally think he's an average qb. I don't however think he's as bad as you felt. Considering his situation, I think the guy did okay.
Jo Mo I was just saying Gators were rough on him. He was the back up...we don't know how the Coaching staff was planning to use him really. Obviously, they gave Del Rio the keys....If we didn't have Appleby, we'd be burning redshirts on freshman...
The best part about this video is the oh so subtle shitpost about Mcelwain. You can hear it in his voice how much these kids and this win means to Mcelwain. He always sounded like he was about to cry whether pregame, half time or postgame.
This was Jim McElwain's I would say last best moment for Florida. Even though he finished 9-4, he was feeling the heat. I think after the 42-7 disastrous loss to Georgia the next year, he was let go.
I'm reading this 3 years after your comment. Yeah, in retrospect, Franks was a good QB (and I wish him the best at Arkansas) and Trask is a VERY good QB. If we can get in any games in 2020 he MAY be a Heisman contender. Bringing in Mullen sure helped.
Great win!!!!! But for the love of all that's HOLY fix the quaterback and offensive line!!!!!!! Getting sick and tired of watching the defense do all the work!!!!!!
To this day, I'm still so pleased about this game's outcome. I had to hear these B1G and Iowa douchebags talk so much trash. I'm sure even they knew that Iowa would get thrashed, and had to feel big somehow, so they talked all month.
