2017 Rolex 24 Roar Testing 

I'm not too impressed by the way these new prototypes look. Nothing compares to the Corvette DP, the Lola Mazdas, Audi R8, or the good 'ol Ferrari 333SP. The ESM Patron car is definitely the worst of the bunch.

well to be fair i liked the corvette dp's but they were ancient.

VMIFerrari I'm with you except for the corvettes. The corvette dp's were ugly to my eyes, more like oversized gt's than prototypes. I'm a little bit of an aero geek though so I've always been drawn more to the LMP cars.

To be honest I really liked how Coyote incorporated a lot of the design elements from the road-going 'Vette's into the prototype design. The overall designs of the late-generation Riley's and Corvettes looked quite nice to me. A far cry from 2003 when the first DPs took center stage. I never thought I would see the day when a Daytona Prototype could be called "pretty", but with all the current LMP cars looking about as aerodynamic as a *brick* with 4 wheels, the times have certainly changed.

yeah i went last year as a christmas gift. i didnt think i was going to be walking thru the pits but i was photoing the deltawing and the fuel guy said "hey man you can get closer if you want as long as you dont get in anyones way" it was awesome.

I cannot choose one. I'm just glad they're both part of it along with Nissan and hopefully other manufacturers join in the fun soon.

Race of Champions in Miami, St. Pete Indycar, hopefully Petit Le Mans. Not sure what else. I try to travel out of state at least once a year for a race. Last year I went to Barber Indycar/PWC and the Indy 500 and I've been to Austin for WEC and F1 a few times. I'd like to get to Watkins Glen or Road America this year. Oh yeah, and I'm trying to go to the NHRA Gatornationals the day after Sebring this year!

i liked the look of the old dps in corvette bodywork a lot (mostly because i wish GM would have built a corvette DP for the street) but these new cars are so much better. the old dp's although updated, were ancient really. they sounded MEAN though.

Yeah that things loud as hell. Loudest turbo I've ever heard for sure.

The Pontiac GTR in the (2005?) race was the loudest then. I think they got less exhaust restriction due to a perceived BoP. Love all the new cars coming in this year.

True, I actually went to the race last year, the Corvettes and Porches sounded really cool. By far the most wiked sounding car out there was the Taylor corvette prototype.. its sounded like death! lol I guess I want to see more driver based cars, not make self driving F1 cars with 2.0L eco friendly engines...

Don't forget the Fords they've got anti-lag

yeah man i went to the roar last year. the corvette DP's and the c7's were LOUD LOUD LOUD and epic. but the 911's sounded incredible too in a different way. the cadillac dpi seems to sound very similar to the old DP's so that didnt really go away.

A Panasonic V750 for this video. I love the video quality but have tried everything trying to get the audio right to no avail. Will probably be upgrading to something else very soon.

You've done a great job so far, your equipment is failing you. I'd invest in a Canon 70D for the paddock shots and a Sony Camcorder for the action shots.

Yeah I've been looking at DSLR and mirrorless cameras like the Panasonic G7 lately but the Sony AX-53 camcorder is probably at the top of the list right now. I don't really have the money for 2 new cameras.

Oh yeah, great camera...thing is about the Canon 70D though is that it has a faster auto focusing system than the G7 and with some camcorders as you get the quality and depth of field working for you when doing shots. Just that the action shots will take a lot out of you in being precise in your footage. Other than that, the quality you would get from that, with a little fun in post would be amazing. I currently have a Canon T3i, and I am looking to upgrade to either the 70D or G7 (70D has faster auto focusing but does not have 4k). I already have a camcorder, which is a Sony HDR-PJ790V. I'm buying the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe that can shoot in 4k and as such will pair it with the DJI Osmo Mobile for my 4k shots/productions.

That's an impressive collection there! I'm really interested in a gimbal to smooth things out for me. I always bring a tripod with me but never use it. I like to travel real light because I like to just walk around and watch the track action more so than worrying about taking photos and videos, especially for the actual race. It's important for me to have a free hand for a beer haha. But I would love to get a 70D or other DSLR at some point and start taking actual photos with it.
