Benji is a true artist. I could watch him dance all day long. For those complaining about the style, go back and watch "Strictly Ballroom" to recapture the JOY of dance.
I'll never in a million years understand how they quickly cut Nicole from SYTYCD that season. I'm HUGE FAN of that show, but that had to be one of the BIGGEST FAILS they ever did.
I've been a big fan of Benji for years. That said, I'm not too fond of the recent direction of his dance. The music here doesn't feel like dance music and the dance looks more like cabaret than swing. The dance still is a great technical achievement, though. I wish the dance would move back in the direction of swing.
The choreography of this dance was amazing! Although I did not see why it would be in a west coast swing category. It looked like a freestyle or cabaret type style of dance. It was amazing, but just not West Coast swing. Also the Lifts and Ariel's were great but there were way too many of them. It just got way too repetitious.
I'm sorry, I did not enjoy this. I can appreciate the skill and work that went into it but it was all over the place. Their expressions didn't fit anywhere. One minute they were smiling ear to ear, then there is this big open mouth expression. I don't understand how they got from here to there. Then they did a trick and it was like they were surprised when something worked out. They had a couple of really interesting lifts, but I felt like there was so little swing, I kept waiting for her to sit into her anchor and it never happened. It was a cabaret number. Then. Hitting. Every. Four. Counts. Got. So. Predictable.
