Be patient, the sun does move into frame before the big moment.
This solar eclipse time lapse was filmed within the path of totality in Columbia, SC on August 21, 2017 during the Great American Eclipse. The time lapse was recorded with a Gopro camera in 4K at 1 frame per second starting at 1:40 pm and ending at approximately 3:00 pm.

I watched from Riverfront park in Columbia. The way the clouds built in the morning was scary. But we were OK by the time the eclipse happened.

Was in the parking lot of Hyatt Place when the eclipse happened. Was truly an amazing experience!

I got it! You were at Blaney Elementary School, six miles to the east of where I was. I used the position of the clouds to get a rough triangulation of where you were vs. where I was. :)

Excellent work! I was West of Lexington, SC at a middle school parking lot. You must have planned this shot the day before to get the sun in frame, at show-center for the main event. I was less organized and just pointed my GoPro straight up.

Chris Zinner yes, I did plan it out a few days before, although I was still nervous that the sun wasn't going to make it into the shot in time.

I started out the day trying for a shot like this, but after moving the camera a bunch of times to chase the sun, I chicken'd out and went vertical. Good job! I'm glad you got the shot!
