From its cheap plastic interior to the good AWD system, we check what's good and wrong with the new 2017 Subaru Forester!
For 2017, the Subaru Forester receives additional noise insulation and quicker steering response. EyeSight safety system adds lane departure intervention and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert,automatic high-beam headlight control, adaptive LED headlights and reverse automatic braking.
Do you like the styling revisions that include new headlights and taillights? The freshened front end and grille are more good looking than the previous version!
The interior, a lot of plastic but we like that X-mode button or the new fabrics! Radio could be improved but sometimes sober is better!
We were surprised how smooth that suspension was on grass, bumps and pothole road! Although the 2.5 is not that powerful, it's economic!
There is a lot of competition out there! Among the best the Toyota Rav4, Honda CRV, Ford Escape, Kia Sportage (Hyundai Tucson)!

I bought a forester in 2012 and by far and away the best car have had in 45 years..great to drive both on and off road..I have used it to tow the quick fill pump for our fire brigade across paddocks and rough terrain

You are very lucky .. because come 2014 and as best as I know to 2017.. they burned oil... I was the unlucky owner of a 2014 Outback... thing drank 1 quart of oil every 1000kms... I went Mazda and never been happier.
@Jay-qb5vg
@Jay-qb5vg Год назад
PS that was ALSO after having the small block replaced.. and it still consumed oil.. love their AWD.. but they lost me as a customer until they get their shit together.. but I like Mazda better, way way better manufacture.

I'm sorry but no one, ever, ever bought a Subaru because of it's interior, sound system or fuel economy (I stand to be corrected though). The Forester is built to last it's as simple as that. There is a reason why you can still see plenty of old Foresters (first model came out 1997) on the road. The interior is practical, solid and it will last, end of story. Besides if you are paying too much attention to the interior that means you are not paying attention to what's happening on the road.

Just In Beaver , they are reliable, but not Toyota level. The 2.5 is very unrefined and loves to blow head gaskets usually between 80, to 130k miles. To add to this issue, Subaru is too cheap to give you a temperature gauge, so you have no warning if an issue does arrive. However, Subaru approached Toyota for help. Toyota will have no control interest of Subaru, but will give them money to invest in better production methods and more money for future products. We will see how Subaru uses this opportunity.

Carlos Guevara Saying Toyota is on a different level of reliability is a bit too generic for me. I can name a number of Toyota models which are not reliable at all, mainly those made in Turkey. That being said some I would buy with very little hesitation (Hilux for example). My inlaws have an Auris which has been having CEL on for the past two years and no one is able to diagnose it. On the other hand I have a 13 year old Forester which basically has been unstoppable in any weather conditions and in the past 6 years the only things that have gone bad are 1 CV joint, 1 lambda sensor and I had to reseal the rocker covers.

Had a Solara with bad head gasket at around 120000 miles on it - run it to 160K plus miles then check engine started to show. I call the junkyard to get removed for a little over 200K. My friend with Sienna had also leaky head gasket issue, that means it too is unrefined?
@djkenny1202
@djkenny1202 7 лет назад
We had an 04. No head gasket issues in 150k. Sold it for the new 2017. Much earlier examples had the failure. In the 150k miles the only thing that went wrong was some fog lamp bulbs and a power window motor that was $200 to get repaired. That is it. Subaru makes very good quality cars. We only sold ours due to the rear seat not working well with a rear facing kid seats, the new 2017 has plenty of room for one, so m legs are not slammed against the dash. We would have kept the 04. So trouble free.

Really? Subaru customers are known for their brand loyalty. However, with its unimpressive reliability rating, the Forester may not last as long as your devotion. J.D. Power and Associates gives the 2017 Forester a score of 2.5 out of five. That means, over time, it's expected to require more service and repairs than most other cars.

2017 2.5L Non-turbo here: Mostly like, however with 89K miles it's going through a quart of oil every 5K miles now....we'll see how that goes. Small things I dislike: I want a REAL gas gauge, not little dots you watch disappear, it's like watching a time bomb! A REAL engine temperature gauge, I haven't overheated but I'm sure that red thermometer icon will pop up when it's too late! Other than that very happy!

Thanks for the review and I totally agree with your views on the Foresters interior materials. However so far as reliability goes Subaru is in the higher middle tier of reliability in most testing but when it comes to the SUV segment they are in the the top tier for that group. My older 2013 Subaru had constant oil leak issues and taking it to deal would work for about one month and it would leak again. Now we all know that every vehicle leaks but when a Subaru leaks it means smoke that also gets in the interior or cabin of the car, not a healthy thing to have happen. So I was not going to get another Subaru but ended up buying A 2016 Forester, I have 22,000 miles so far but I do not trust that it will continue to run as it should long term.

Reply to "JUST IN BEAVER" ... fuel economy was one of the primary reasons I bought my 2015 Forester ... we average 30.9 miles per gallon over 24,000 miles. With a light load and a strong tail wind we actually got 40 MPG on one 100 mile trip ... typically 34-36 on most highway trips. We avoid Interstate highways like the plague ... boring and fuel efficiency goes down at 70+ MPH. Most of our trips are on straight level secondary roads at 57 MPH. The standard sound system may not be the greatest but it's not too bad either. And my firm leather heated seats are very comfortable.

Thank you for the video! I have a question about the cabin noise level. I heard lot of people talking about great improvement comparing to the 16'. What's your opinion for the 17 forester comparing to other competitors, like Honda CRV and Toyota Rav4? Thanks

Thanks for the video. In Brazil we don´t have the 2.5l engine. We have the 2.0 turbo with 240hp and a cheapper version 2.0 150 hp. I don´t need performance on road but my question is if wiht an engine with 150hp and 20.2 Kgfm of torque I might have problems using offroad. Thanks!

@santhoshabraham1255
@santhoshabraham1255 6 лет назад
And what were the problems, if you may describe a few please. Subaru don't come with as many problems and if they do, take it to the dealer. If the dealers are not paying attention to your concern, then please call Subaru US (if you are in the US) and file a complaint through phone or email. Subaru as a manufacturer takes your complaints very seriously. They will act on it swiftly and in some cases even instruct the dealers how to go about addressing your concerns. This is for all readers - if have not followed this escalation matrix in addressing your concern, then please consider doing it. Here is what we went through - I visited my wife in the US and she owns a Subaru Forester 2015. She had talked about issues concerning her blue-tooth not connecting and the airbag/seat-belt sign turning on and off at times. Well, I asked her to take it to the dealer, and the dealers said that a blue-tooth software update would cost about USD 150 and the airbag system under the passenger seat requires replacement USD 800 (approx). They quoted a total of USD 1000 approx to fix all issues. I requested her to call Subaru US, as I stood firm in my understanding that all of these concern the drivers safety and do not relate to a normal wear and tear. They are not supposed to be occurring to a 2.5 year old car.The warranty on the car had expired as well. She requested me to draft a letter basis my understanding which I forgot and she apparently called Subaru US soon after I returned. The manufacturer has instructed her to visit the nearest Subaru Dealer and get all of this replaced as though the vehicle is on warranty. So if your concerns pertain to issues that are too uncomfortable to let go, please talk about it to the nearest dealer, if they don' hear you well, then write to Subaru. You are sure to be heard!

wantsanewvehicle. what's funny is sometimes when I look at car reviews I will look at the same car being reviewed, the same trim Level . One reviewer will say it had a cheap interior, another reviewer will say the interior is high-quality. I guess you have to decide for yourself by going to a dealer and sitting inside and make up your own mind. to me the most important thing in a car is reliability. that's why I like Subaru and Toyota so much.
