I rode the 2016 Suzuki SV650 today and made this review / test ride video to share with you all. It's a fun bike to ride - narrow and manoeuvrable in town, fun and fast on the open road, and it makes a really nice V twin sound. I think I would choose it over a similar bike like the ER6N / Z650 for the sound alone. Enjoy!

Bruh.. great video and thank you for all you do but.. too much music.. from the start to finish?! Especially during the ignition people wanna hear how it sounds.. not the music.. please..

Thanks for taking the time to leave some constructive feedback mate. I made this video some time ago but I agree watching it back now that them music is too much.

I have one and have had the stock seat upgraded by Viking Saddles near Brands Hatch which has made a huge difference. They insert extra padding and gel pads for about £160.

Cracking review. Have ridden most of the 650 SV variants including the V-Strom and by far the best in my view is the "S" If you can get your hands on one give it a go. I'll be test riding the 2016 in the next few weeks. Enjoying this channel, you're carving quite a niche in winter vlogs. 3 months in and almost 300 subs... well done sir.

+Christian Weller thanks Christian appreciate the kind words. It's tough going through the winter but it's better than getting the bus! They didn't have the S in stock and I believe it's discontinued now? V-strom looks cool - really enjoyed test riding the f800 gs a few weeks back so maybe I'll give it a go some time.

I put the optional roll top seat for my SV, which is part of the Suzuki accessories catalogue (at least in Australia). Much better than the OE seat, and it looks a bit nicer too (at least on my black SV)

@motobob

+喆 LI seems like quite specific information for me to know! Have you a) googled it and b) emailed a dealer? 👍

MOTOBOB Actually I just wanted to ask 'brain glendenning', cause he said he changed the OG one to roll top seat. Sorry mate, I just start to use RU-vid.

You're right it looks so much better in person. I'm torn between this and the strom.

I agree on the Seat, had mine for almost 8000km now and if you ride longer than 2 hours you begin to get the tinglies. Been looking for some aftermarkets, but nothing really grabbed my eye yet.

Some folks have told me gel seats are good for comfort but not sure if available for the SV - I usually check eBay for that sort of thing. My dad has a couple of BMWs that he's had the seats re-covered on too. I wonder if you could do that but get them to put extra padding or gel inserts in?

I've owned an er6n since 2009 but I ended up selling it last week. I'm considering the SV for my next bike.

Loved my 2006 ER6n. The SV feels a bit different with the v-twin and maybe sounds a bit better, but they’re both good bikes

I did my DAS on one of these and it was great, really easy to ride. The low RPM assist is a big help for new riders but the standard seat is grim. I'm quite slim and the seat killed my ass after about 2 hours, it became really uncomfortable. An upgrade seat would make this a great bike such that I'm thinking of selling my Street Triple and buying one.
@motobob
@motobob 6 лет назад
I only got to ride it for an hour so not sure I got to feel the full effect of the seat, but you’re not the only person to say it’s a bit harsh! Must be plenty of aftermarket options out there though...

Would have been a great review, but oh my Lord, WHY the horrible horrible music over the damn thing? I wanted to hear the bike, and everything was drowned out by that awful din!!! Sorry, don't ever like to be negative, but I have been looking for a good review on this bike as I am thinking of getting one myself, please please PLEASE next time, lose the soundtrack!!!!!!!!!

One of the most underated bikes out there, however the seat is unacceptable. too hard and uncomfortable. I loved the top end rush when you rev it to the limit.

Video ruined by atrocious music. Otherwise a very informative review. You really don't need the music. I'll give you a thumbs up. EDIT: Have you ridden the MT-07? I'm thinking of getting an SV and not an MT. Thoughts. One more thing: what is the SV's gear change like, please?
@motobob
@motobob 7 лет назад
+1990 that's my favourite song!!!!! It was first dance at my wedding 😉😉😉 Not ridden the MT. Contacted Yamaha dealers a few times as I want to try the XSR which is pretty much the same bike, but they never get back to me! Gear change seemed fine to me on the SV. I would try and get a test ride on each tbh and then you can see for yourself!
@scottfree9994
@scottfree9994 5 лет назад
It's always down to MT-07 or the SV650. From what I've gathered most owners will take either or without hesitation. The Kaw Z650 is inferrior and the Honda CB650F is WAY over priced for little bike you get. So apparently which ever has the best deal....be it new old stock or special deal with interest or free extra fill in the blank is the deciding factor. Bottom line when it comes to med size standard bikes there's only two competing company's Suzuki and Yamaha. The other two are just in the middle sucking on it. There's your raw truth.

SV is defo my next bike I want. But only coming up to 1 year riding/no claims, License since October, so the insurance is a too high for the moment. Have to stick to my 125 :(
@motobob
@motobob 7 лет назад
+duckeehhh insurance is crazy at the moment - prob due to bike theft levels. My bike only cost 1900 and cheapest third party, fire, theft I could get was 750 a year. So essentially they're estimating it will get nicked within about 2.5 years. Anyway def recommend the SV - super fun bike!

the long clutch pull is something i did get used to pretty quickly, but even now (after driving an hour and a half to work every day in DFW), if it crosses my mind, i'm still annoyed that i can't use just two fingers as well as i can on my last [first] bike. i could understand someone considering it kind of a big deal on something that's supposed to be a street fighter. but really, like i said, i did get used to it, and it doesn't hinder me, as far as i can tell. as far as seat comfort, i've gone over 6800 miles on it, and i would say, the maximum length of time it's ever been comfortable for me is an hour. by the time i get home (after an hour and a half), if i haven't stood up or gone into a low tuck at least once to take pressure off my ass, it's very uncomfortable.

Bar end mirrors and a tail are also nice mods. Two Brothers exhaust the next change.
@motobob
@motobob 7 лет назад
+brian glendenning the SV is definitely a beastly sounding engine which is held back by the stock exhaust (like almost all stock bikes). I bet it will sound epic with a two bros 🤘🤘🤘

Agree the sound is really nice. Everyone seems to think the seat is too hard. Wish it had higher grade brakes and suspension - 2019 did get four-piston Nissan brakes. Have you ridden a Ducati 797? Similar engine and looks...any comments on how they compare?

Would really like to see you test the new Kawasaki Z650. Considering that versus the SV650 and the Street Twin...you would be the guy to give me an honest comparison. Thanks and Hi from the U.S.!

Yeah I really want to ride a z650 and also the z900rs. There are plenty of motorcycle dealers nearby but Kawasaki is a little harder to find... maybe once the weather improves I’ll figure it out

I owned 2016 ER6N but I let it go because of the vibration on the handlebar make my hand numb within 30min. I am looking for new 2016 SV650 but you said in the video it has vibration as ER6N, may I know which vibration is more serious. Which engine is more smoother?
@motobob
@motobob 7 лет назад
I think the SV is a little smoother, but you should try out a test ride to see if you like it. Otherwise you might be better to look for a 4 cylinder bike?
@lucasoft1358
@lucasoft1358 7 лет назад
Thank you very much. By the way, there is very seldom a test ride is provided here. Anyway I have to find some friend who has SV to test. Again, thank you very much for you information.
