Another of the very popular dances that you will find at the Southern District obon festivals. Taken at the Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple 2017 Obon Festival on July 16.
This particular festival is held at the Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple (VHBT), which is located in Culver City, California. Most of the Jodo Shinshu temples and churches that are part of the Buddhist Churches of America hold obon festivals during one weekend of the summer. VHBT usually holds their obon festival in July.
@@RonGee , Thanks for the information!!! Here in Brazil we also have these festivals. I went a lot as a child in the interior of the state of São Paulo, which is the state that has the most Nikkei in the country. I am happy to know that in California there are festivals like these !!! I've heard that the Japanese in California have managed to make California's desert land arable. Are you nikkei? Let me ask you one last question: does the USA have undokai too? If you are interested, I will leave a link here for a Bom Odori festival in Londrina, Paraná, here in Brazil.

@@r77777ful yes, the Japanese were very well known for farming the central California area, although many of their children didn't continue working the farms. I am not Nikkei, but my wife is. I have not heard of undokai being celebrated here. There used to be many Japanese American sports leagues, baseball, softball, and basketball mostly. There are still Japanese American basketball leagues, but not as many teams as before.
