I did it! 🎉 It took about 6-7 hours of work but that’s typical for me bc of second guessing myself. I kept going back and rewatching each piece as I went so the time line is on me. I didn’t have the work space either so I was make shifting that. Ultimately this video saved me about $600- $750 on my Indian shop installing. Word of advice to everyone on the 2020 Roadmaster Dark Horse, the plug that he mentions that goes to the handlebars, it is the one he’s talking about on the left (when facing the bike) but it’s ran through the metal frame to the fairing housing and is zip tied behind it. Remove the right blinker, take the 3 screws out of the fairing plastics on the back & use the needle nose players to twist off the zip tie. You can then pull the whole handlebar harness out of the front. You’ll be relocating that to the top in the middle somewhere bc it likely doesn’t reach back to the original location. Don’t second guess it like me. I have no idea where the ambient air sensor plug came from but it’s got the clip to stick back into the frame somewhere but I can’t find it. No idea how or why I pulled it out.
My shop quoted $165 per hour for 4-5 hours! Thanks to this comprehensive install video i'm bolting on my new 6" Apache Baggers (shipped like grease lighting by the way) on my 2021 Chieftain Dark Horse in my garage as we speak. I smeared a little dielectric grease on the taped up portion of my pull wire to make that sharp bend go a little smoother on the bulky throttle side. Thanks!
This was a fabulous how to video. With the info in your video I was able to install new KST bars on my new 2024 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse. And with the money I saved doing it myself this video convinced me to go buy a DeWalt cordless ratchet.
Just bought a 2024 roadmaster darkhorse. Dealer said fairing has to come off completely. We dont have that front chrome cover like in this vid. Did you have to pull alot off to get to everything?
Just want to thank you for the video. This was an amazing help. I installed the 8" Klockwerks Ergo bars on my 2018 CDH. It took me a total of about 3 hours. The worst part was the right side wiring through the bars....after that, it was a snap. Thanks, Adam
Thank you Ret and team for this awesome video, well done and thorough. I installed the +6 Apache Baggers on my 2020 Roadmaster Dark Horse, took just under 5 hours to complete. It went exactly as the video, other than having to take the front fairing off because of the smaller headlight. Thank you again for the great video and the badass bars!
Finally got mine installed today. 2020 Roadmaster Dark Horse, the wiring in the faring was very different because it was all clamped and zip tied together with a small window to work out of. About 7 hour project at the end of the day.
Me too. Just bc second guessing myself on why I couldn’t get the handle bar wiring harness out as easy as he did. Zip tied behind that bar so need to undo the bottom of the fairing from the backside to clip that zip tie.
Great video. Pulling the wires through is a bear.. got about 2 hours into the wiring now... Trying to figure out how to get past where the wires get stuck. Tempted to remove the ends and try again.
Just did a 17 Roadmaster yesterday and it surely didn’t go as smooth as your install! The 17 had soldered connections at the switch housings so the wires need to be pulled up through leaving the housing intact. The wiring left through after the install is really short and the wiring needs to moved around inside the fairing a bit. The clutch cable need to be rerouted too. It all come together but not as simple as the video. That being said, I’ve done many Harleys and this install is still way better than having to change clutch and brake lines!
Had you installed heated grips bed I just bought some heated grips for my 2017 chieftain and I know the bars aren’t pre wired and I have the harness that run through the bars just wondering if I have to remove the whole front of the fairing to run them through the bars
Thank you so much ! Very clear and complete. I would like to change my bar on my 2016 RM, and after checking the connections on the handle, I saw there are not the same and not so easy or impossible to disconnected there !! Any other solutions ? Thank you for your help from France. Few year ago, I have done the same job on my HD Road King, I mean I should be able to change it myself... Thierry
Quick question can you not remove the bars with the wiring intact. Because when your installing the new bars. U r still feeding the wires in and out thru the headlight
I am just installing heated grips and contemplating pulling all the wires out and restringing it rather than trying to pull the heat grip harness. Can you pull all wires at once?
@@kstkustoms1324 Unfortunately the 2017 was not prewired. I followed your video and it was easy. Just removed all wires and pulled them through. Not as hard as I thought other than stripping the torx bolts on the brake, clutch c clamps. 😫
