Congratulations I’m stunned at how clean the car looks and how the detailing compliments but doesn’t take away from the statement. High design ,WOW WOW WOW
Deserved winner. That 57 Chevy is stunning! The paint work !! My God I thought they were photo flashes going off from the reflection of the car as it turned. Amazing !!!
I agree--he's a gentleman. I met him when the newly restored Jade Idol debuted (about 1980) at the Oakland Roadster Show. He generously let me sit in it.
One of the first jobs I ever had was body work at a paint shop. There's not a lot of people who can do work on this level, no matter what you pay. It takes a real skill and tons of experience. For those knocking the owners for not doing it themselves, you have to realize, no one can compete on this level all on their own. You need masters in each aspect in order to put together the best, and owners are the ones with the vision and connections to make it happen.
Personally speaking, it was an eight way tie! Firm believer in the old adage, if you can't do it right, find someone who can. Awesome each & every one of these eight!
Holy Heaven, the 57 Chevy is the absolutely big hammer. That is a very very fine car. Fantastic work men, this is the best example for that what people can make from older cars. The others are great, but this is my favorite. This is art, not car building. And they win this thing, a good day for me.
The paint work on the riddler winner is awesome anyone who knows anything about painting cars will tell you silver is the hardest colour to paint it shows everything
It's funny about the Ridler award--as a west coaster, we'd never heard of it before the www. It was all about the Oakland Roadster Show and the AMBR trophy. We still joke that the only "Riddler" we heard of was on Batman.
all beautiful cars, anyone of them could have won. The girl who owned the Ford truck really didn't even know much about what was done to her car though
The moment she began her romanticized recollection about handing her father a wrench I knew it was a script. It sounds like she googled "what's cool" and just reiterated it here. Just like the orca-betties, fake.
If you listen, not many car owners actually build a car/truck anymore, they farm it out to people with the talent. Personally, when that big MOPAR Plymouth lit up, that sound was awesome. Did not see any other Trailer Queens that come close. They are beauty but can and are there any that hit the streets, ever?
The complete gold exterior undercarriage 2018 won 8 th award took six yrs too build has to be the cleanest the best 67 - 69 camaro ss on the planet ,I shit you not
So much for using chrome cabinet knobs to accent grilles. It’s cool to see stuff that costs more than an average house that’ll never drive on a public road. I’d love to go back in time before people used CNC and billet everything.
I wasn’t surprised at the choice of winner - was def the cleanest, nicest example of such a cliche car that I’ve ever seen. All 8 were great, which is more than I can say for other years. I want to see that Mark II with the trunk closed though!
My two picks would have been the gold Camaro and a 56 Continental and not in any particular order I was surprised the 57 all those slick as snot was just a little to sedate on the outside yes it was heavily modified but that gold paint on that Camaro and the flake on the Continental was outstanding
I used to work with a guy who was a judge for this show. His specialty wasn't this category but the original stock. The level in which they verify parts and how they can tell by the smallest details what is original and what is not is unreal. He can look at an antenna and if the original has a little dimple in the base, that means is was supplied by the Cleveland shop and is between 1952 and 1954 for example. If it has a triangle mark then it came from Pittsburgh. No shit, that is the level these guys operate on. The only way you can get a 100 point car is to have bought it original, drove it straight into storage with all the paperwork and tags, then break it out 50 years later. He's only seen one 100 point car in his 30 years doing this. A 92-95 point car is rare. So if you do find that car that was put away and never driven, you'd have some serious bucks.
Guess the 34 Ford pickup owner doesn't understand that you earn no praise or deserve any either when you pay someone else to design and build your ride. The truck is sweet but she may as well have said she bought it because that's pretty much what she did anyway.
The gal who owns the truck said she acquired the truck from family and wanted it restored. She wanted a blue truck with a tan interior, she wanted pouches for her phone on the door panels, and a hood. The truck came with a quick change rear end... in the bed..., clearly this truck will haul nothing butt ass. The interview of the gal with the 1934 ford contains more information than the sum of her words. There is an an unspoken duality to her story. This entire car show seems to have a creepy vibe that escapes explanation on a RU-vid comment. Did anyone in these interviews mention Nitrous Oxide? ...or do they let that go unspoken of while competing for the $10,000 Ridler Award? The Autorama appears to be a cult of like minded people to me. The Ridler Award is not the prize here.... something else is going on.
You can tell that some of builds took the better part of a decade to build by their use of older and different brand engines. GM ZL1 Ram Jet in a Ford... that's so 2000-late.
1967 camaro had beautiful vent windows. Some people get rid of them. Mistake! Cruising us all about the elbow out the window and the cool breeze from outside.
TWO-LANE BLACKTOP PRODUCTIONS THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO & UP'LOAD... [ Danielle Lutz ] 34 Ford P-up..... FROM PENNSYLVANIA, I SEE YOU GIRL !!! CONGRADULATIONZ TO THE ( Grt. 8 ) 👏🏼 ( KNUCKLE👊🏽BUMP ) Ridler Winner, Greg.
I guess I'm a spoiled kid. My Mom was working the Western Union booth at the 63 Motor Rama and bought me a mild custom 55 cheve Bel Air 2dr ht. Blood red lower and pearl white top. Lost it from storage while i was in Vietnam a couple years later. Cool car.
The girl with the Ford pickup goes on and on about how "into" cars she is, then the story is basically, "Somebody gave me a truck that was given to them, somebody else built the entire truck for me, I didn't do anything, I don't know anything about it, I like the color blue." ( ')__( ')
This early. Older model continental is a very beautiful car and the 57 Chevy is a fine example of a tri 5 Chevy and shows some of the old classics can be updated and made into a beautiful custom and the 39 Ford sedan delivery and so is the 40 Ford coupe which both are fine examples of old school hotrods and and the 36 Pontiac is another example of an old school cruiser 😊😊😮😅😅❤😊
The roofline is definitely 59-Plymouth-ish like Christine. And squashing the front (section) does make it look 55ish. I think it was *heavily* influenced by Chezoom.
I am glad that 57 Chevy won. Finally somebody had the guts to knock off all the ugly off a 57 Chevy and turn it into a stunning car. This is the only 57 Chevy that I like. Out of the tri-fives, the 55 was the best overall, the 56 had some strange styling in the front but the best looking rear end, the 57 was always to gaudy.
I absolutely love this videos about cars 🚘 getting a face lift and looking amazing 😉. I only wish that maybe one day, I could have one ☝️ of this car’s before I die!🙏🏽😎
The nine that hit the thumbs down are just miserable people, even if you don’t like cars what is wrong with seeing the best & brightest or better yet just don’t watch!
Is it wrong to say I didn't like most of them? Especially the winner. The 57/55 chevy/Buick/Cadillac Hard to tell what it's trying to be. I'm sure the build quality is top notch, it just doesn't appeal to me.
I used to build cars like these...I sacrificed a lot of time building these cars for other people and made it to the great 8 one time while working for a company.... While it was gratifying it was also depressing..... A Fabricator can spend 10 to 15 hrs a day for months on end ...years go by to build custom parts for these cars and never once get mentioned for doing so in one of these interviews. And while I did learn a lot ,looking back I will never do it again I will only build cars for myself that can be driven. Trailer queen’s and cars that only run for 60 seconds at a time so the exhaust system doesn’t blue ...fuck that!
I know what you mean, I worked at a shop that had a hard time paying me and another fabricator for our work. Just didn't understand what it took to install a northstar engine in a 64 Cadillac.
I agree with you, been there, seen that, done that all for someone elses benefit. Now l've semi retired l can do my own. All l've got to do is make sure l stay alive long enough to finish them!
You can't enter a Ridler winner again for a different Ridler competition. For a car to be eligible for Riddler competition, it must not have ever been shown or seen anywhere... even in magazines, online, or any other car show prior to being on display in Detroit autorama for that years' Riddler competition.
is my honda civic eligible for this competition? it took me over 9000 hours to build it, it has a stock engine, racing stripes, a fartcan, a spoiler and gold 100 spoke daytons.
Some of these people (the ’34 Ford pickup as an example) paid money to have someone build a car and brought it home and called it their own. I would be ashamed to call someone else’s pride in workmanship my own.
is what the ridler is now a days, some go to a ridler winner shop asking for a ridler winner and bunch of money and after 6 to 10 years they have one. and the owner takes the credit. for a lot of them is just other investment, and will never actually use it . is good for the shops they can go way over the limit with the work.
You don’t understand what its about. If your a car builder this is the highest level of quality achievable. Yes these cars wont be driven, they are examples of art show casing the talent of the builders. If you use off the shelf aftermarket parts you wont be in the great 8 no matter how nice the build. This is to show what can be done with enough talent, imagination and money. As a car builder I like to see the extremes that people with insane talent can achieve. I then get inspired to build my cars that will be driven.
Don't think l've seen this show before. I admire people who put passion and hard work into any restoration, creation, custom but, this is just buying your way to a trophy . I don't think too many REAL enthusiasts can throw $500k plus just to get a disproportionate award. Think l'll stick to my classic 's.
