Diesel is that way to go in day to day driving. Low end torque and mpg is usually unmatched and they're overall durable engines. I love my Canyon with the 2.8 Duramax. So much torque and really smooth.
@JD-yx7be
@JD-yx7be 7 лет назад
Cory R hybrid would be cheaper and get the same mpg with cheaper fuel. hybrids are typically more reliable then diesels also. That is why taxis use hybrids.
@chokekoo983
@chokekoo983 7 лет назад
There is actually less torque per liter in the 2.8L Duramax than there is in the most modern turbocharged gas engines despite the fact the Duramax runs higher boost and has a longer stroke. And with emissions systems, reliability for diesel engines is actually worse the gas engines.

Nice review, Andre. Regarding the interior sound levels: The huge expanse of the sunroof, without its headliner cover in place, will always let in a bit more noise, even when the sunroof glass is closed. I have an ordinary sunroof in my car, and again, with the glass totally closed, at highway speeds when I reach up and employ the cover, the interior of the car gets a bit quieter. So your diesel version with the glass visible, at 60 db, might have come down a bit closer to the gasoline version of 58 db which doesn't even have a sunroof at all.

Great video review. I test drove the 1.5 turbo gas and it was nice to drive. I purchased a used 2018 GMC 1.6TDI. Mileage is impressive with the diesel. I hope that the drivetrain holds up with preventative maintenance. Would have loved it if they offered the 6 spd manual that was available with the Chev Cruze that shares the platform alas manuals are a fading breed in NA. Thank you.

Just get the Denali or option the 2.0l gas motor. The diesel can be made fun with a tuner, but the Denali is a hoot as is. When tuned that 2.0l gas motor make like 350whp and as much torque. My tuned 1.4 in my Cruze makes what the 2.0l makes stock. It’s crazy how much can be squeezed out and stay under warranty.

Nice! I hope the Blazer gets the 1.6 ecotec diesel I feel like it would be a good base model diesel the 2.8 Duramax would be good for higher trims. Also as for other motor options the current ones are lame I think for the 4 and 6 cylinder gas motors I think they should get the 2.7 turbo 4 and the 3.0 TT V6 from Cadillac. I also think the 4.2 tt v8 would be cool as well I'm sure it'll fit just fine with a couple of tweaks to the firewall it would be a good option for the RS considering the 3.6 is the only motor for that the 2.8 Duramax would be good for the RS trim as well 😉 I think the Blazer is fairly popular at this point it would make sense to have those engine options it probably would sell better with those.

My complaint is that 1.6 diesel is just too small. Fuel economy isn't the only advantage of diesels, they can also be great work horses, but the tiny displacement on this one negates that benefit. It should've been at least a 2.0, but I suspect that would've been harder to get the EPA's stamp of approval. They're scrutinizing diesels very closely since the VW debacle.
@dundonrl
@dundonrl 5 лет назад
Not too small at all. Hell, look at the 5.0 Coyote in the F150, not till it gets over 2500 rpm does it match the torque of this little beast. In my Cruze with the 6 speed manual, once I'm moving at freeway speeds I never downshift (going over any mountain pass).

With a $3500 cost increase over the gas, you will only see savings with the diesel after 10 years of typical ownership. (Based on today's gas & diesel prices and 12k miles per year)
@bmw803
@bmw803 6 лет назад
Also, you need to consider other maintenance costs that diesels usually don't have. But that might be different with modern diesels. Battery and glow plugs will last longer on a diesel car, but a diesel engine is also built tougher, so it will last longer too.

This is going to be a big winner for GM with twins offering a high mpg diesel in the compact field. Hybrids are good for city dwellers but are nothing special on open highways but diesels are made for the open road, and GM diesels are reliable plus efficient. GM knows how to make excellent diesel engines and this is just another straw in their hat.

In 50k miles, that's less then $500 in fuel savings. The diesel probably takes DEF too. The diesel is also a bigger engine, so probably takes more oil. My car has a 5 speed auto. For any kind of sporty use, or trying to accelerate into traffic from a stop is super uncomfortable. Couldn't imagine a 9 speed... Lately I've been manually shifting my auto... Like take off in 1st, then it will shift down and out of the power, just as I get back on the power and it wastes time and is very rough.... I think my next vehicle will be a manual because the auto transmission doesn't know what I'm planning to do or what is happening around me. Stop shifting!

if the A/C is on the start/stop won't activate. Also, you can bypass the start/stop by selecting L (low) and then goggling to the L9 position which will allow the transmission to operate normally but disable the start/stop. There's also the option to get the start/stop disable module and be done with that feature all together. www.smartstopstart.com/chevy-buick-cadillac-gmc-products.html

Looked into this vehicle because I have a GMC envoy that has been super reliable (230K miles on it) but I ended up going with a Subaru outback which is bigger(surprisingly), cheaper, and has more safety features.

We in europe drive mostly diesel cars. Because gas is so expencive. About 1.20$ per liter. That's why we drive diesels. I Drive Alfa Romeo 2.4 JTD and I get around 33mpg in city. It's really good and powerfull engine and also reliable and which is most important it doesn't drink a lot of fuel. Before I drive the Alfa with gas 1.8 l engine and I get aprox 25 mpg in city and that's drinking alot for the price of gas

it's the opposite in the U.S. Diesel is more expensive here than gasoline and the diesel engine option itself is usually around $3000 to $3500 more than the gasoline engine, so the small difference in fuel efficiency with the latest generation of highly efficient gasoline engines makes the equation not so good for the diesel option unless absolutely necessary such as where very high amounts of low end torque are required. Nowadays the MPG difference between the newest generation of gasoline engines and a diesel engine are only around 2 or maybe 3 mpg, and when you factor in the $3000+ price tag difference and higher price per gallon for diesel fuel, they just don't make much sense.

Andre, going by the computer is not real world. GM don't want you to turn off stop/start. They are going to make you have to buy a new starter.
@JA-rn5qv

They do it for the EPA ratings but yeah the start/stop feature can be disabled anyhow. There are several ways to go about it.

45K for a Denali?? That 3 row crossover money. I can think of several otions I'd prefer for that amount. CX-9, and Sorento for starters.

After 5 years that $3,500 extra diesel would probably only add $500 to the resale value. No way you will save three grand at the pump in five years to justify that much of a premium. Trucks maintain that price premium when it comes time to resell, but a CUV only rated to tow 1,500 pounds. No way.

Mazda just killed the diesel engine. Sparkless petrol engine is VERY POWERFULL AND EFFICIENT. And it reduces emmission by quite a bit over diesel.

The equivalent to the Mokka are the Chevrolet Traxx and the Buick Encore. All on the Gamma 2 platform. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Gamma_platform This one you see here is on a larger platform: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Delta_platform

How about the Opel Grandland X?
@bahamatodd
@bahamatodd 7 лет назад
The Grandland X is based on a PSA platform. Its related to the Peugeot 3008. PSA was working with Opel for a while before GM decided to sell Opel to PSA.
@onemansvintage

More in line with the Opel Envision though I imagine they stretched the platform a bit
