3 massive improvements I've seen from Osaka in the last 6 months. 1. Fitness and speed around the court 2. Consistency, plays with much more margin than what she once did 3. Mental strength. With consistent results at all 4 grand slams, she's a major grand slam contender
Absolutely! I had the same feeling about her as I did for Nadal when he arrived on tour. If she's consistent and dedicated, I see her as a future dominating slam champion!
paper wait exactly and about point construction: she said it herself that she is much more aware of what she's doing on the court. She's matured in the last couple of months.
this is a group of 20 year old players who are coming through at the right time for the wta. venus and serana are coming to the ends of their careers and doper maria sharapova is damaged goods.
17sunnyhour, You are correct Her inconsistency probably due to her being a rookie, I remember the Williams sisters started out that way too. She got the physical talent. The mental aspect of professional tennis is what she will need to improve to become a Grand Slam Winner. Did you know that she is half Haitian? That's where she gets that beautiful Tan.
The thing I'm grateful for is that I am living at the same time Osaka's career is taking off. Ideal would have been I discovered her around 5 years ago and watched her mature but I'll take this ride since the US Open and watch Osaka's life unfold. I am so happy for her.
J J He never was Serena's coach. He was her hitting partner and a good friend. I guess he wanted to be more than a hitting partner but Serena knew Mouratoglou's ambition was good for her. Worked out well for all it seems.
Congratulations Naomi for your first big breakthrough! My dream final would be Naomi vs V! She's a potential Grand Slam winner! Keep playing consistent!
Emmanuel N: Serena has had 3 coaches - her father, her mother, and Patrick. But, to be fair, Sascha was more than just her hitting partner evdn if he never rose to the level of coach.
i love that she doesnt jump up and down and scream when she wins.i think it is good for young players to keep calm and realize they have much more work to do to grab the title
with that win, I believe she's made it into the top 32 which means that she'll soon be seeded at grand slams if she holds it. No doubt she will. Let's see how she does on clay starting next month. Very excited for her and women's tennis!
i don't think that pliskova matches up well against naomi. while naomi also serves big and hits big, she moves much better than pliskova. naomi really does have a game that is much like that of serena's. halep might have a big problem against naomi if halep can't find a way to break naomi's spirit. the match against sakkari was good experience in adjusting to a player who mixes things up, which is something that halep does really well. i don't understand the negative comments about pliskova. lack of showing emotion does not mean that she is playing without heart or that it will keep her from being able to win. some of the comments about pliskova are not entirely unlike some of the comments about ivan lendl when he was playing. it didn't prevent him from winning. pliskova's biggest challenges are the limitations in her game: it's not clear that she moves that well; and she needs time to wind up for her big ground strokes. so a big hitter like naomi can make things difficult for her.
at 3:47, this girl reminds of Serena's movement back in the day. Amazing. If she maintains this level, dominating the top girls, she will win multiple slams. Probably at the least 5.
What's scary about Osaka is that, she can already win these matches and beat these players yet it's obvious she still has alot of things to improve on. And when she does, maybe she's the one to thank over the Williams throne?
Alex Bajin spent many years in Serena Williams player's box being the tennis great's hitting partner. Now he is passing on his knowledge and experience to the talented Osaka!
within a few weeks at IW/Miami she beat Sharapova, Halep, Pliskova, Kasatkina and Serena. In 3 of those matches she won by 6-3 6-2 and dominated the world no.1 6-3 6-0. That is amazing!
karolina-chan 2021 season has just begun, and the Czech chair is grateful for the words we represent Taiwan. Therefore, I give inspiration to karolina-chan .
Naomi es una tremenda jugadora, es fuerte, inocente, estratega y muy pero muy habil para levantarse y darle al juego una atractivo de querer verlo una y otra vez, gracias Naomi por alegrarme la vida, JuliaKHiga.
Naomi Osaka... she is the next super star in womens tennis... she has has everything to be the next one... WOmesn tennis has been waiting for one like her since Serena williams
to me she,s not like serena but like rafa nadal. she moved better than serena. serena has never been a good mover on court but she compensates by outhitting her opponents with raw power. naomi Osaka is like a female nadal without the crazy topspin. females dont just hit nadal like topspins but she has nadal like movenment and fearlessness on court.
Something in me keep telling me that Naomi Osaka is going to win this tournament!! I predict Naomi vs Venus in final and Naomi will defeat Venus. I am a strong Williams sister fan, but I will like Naomi to be the winner.
I think that I have never seen such a weak footwork. And Pliskova acts like she does not care. No emotion whatsoever. Winning is not due sweetie, you have to go get it. Bravo Osaka. Such a fresh and entertaining attacker. You are definitely the one to watch!
Whatever happened to pliskova who used to be scary with her serves and forehands.. guess the girls are figuring out her plays. She can be beaten when you play really well.
Lol I envy Pliskova, too lazy but still manages to be on top. She plays like me specially when the day before i got drunk i get to the court with no movement at all..not even bending knees before every shot..and giving a fck about long points...just trying to finish them early
Naomi Osaka & Daria Kasatkina - 2 refreshing change in womens tennis... bored of the same names ..most of them just above avg... who kept on winning bcs of a weaker field... these 2 new girls gonna make it big...
Everybody coming up with useless discussions about skin and nationality issues. I guess Naomi will have a laugh if she reads these comments, but I'm sure she's smart enough to ignore comments on RU-vid. I love her game and I love her personality and not since today, I've been following her for 1,5 years.
Brent Pham Yup, I think I read it in an interview before she started working with Sascha Bajin. I’ve been a big Serena fan since 2000 when I saw her play Venus at the 2000 Wimbledon. I’ve also been dreading the day that Venus and Serena will retire, so it’s fun to see a young player like Naomi emulate their playing style on the court.
All because she is brown doesn't mean she plays like a Williams sister. Venus and Serena by her age were serving and volleying and winning doubles slams. This girl just hits hard and can hit some fat serves. Pliskova does that. Ostapenko hits hard. So does Sharapova.. A bit too one dimensional to play a Williams style game. So can you please clarify what makes Osaka's game a Williams game as opposed to just hitting hard? Because the sisters have a whole lot of variety than they get credit for.
roter13 Naomi looks like she's developing into a great player (with some Serena-like attributes) and will be a contender in the future, but her serve isn't on Serena's level, which would be a foundation of Serena 2.0. lol
For Naomi to be Serena 2.0, she would have to be better than Serena. Serena has 23 Grand Slam Singles titles 13 doubles 3 Olympic Golds and I believe 2 or 3 Mixed Doubles titles... Naomi isn't even in her league.... And if we adjust for age... Serena had already won some doubles slams and mixed doubles slams with Venus by this time already....Does Osaka even play doubles?
