This is good, that Oprah is illustrating what Brian Stevension is doing, to reveal the truth, to remind the entire world that, all people are humans, so that the artrosities that was done in America, to non caucasian humans, in America, and also what Hitler had done, would never again be repeated.
Preach my friend 👋🙌!!! I agree 💯 percent with you on that comment!!! So damn sad 😢💔!!!! Take care of yourself and your family during this coronovirus pandemic 😷 ok. Peace out from Bunn NC.👋💖💖😀!!!!!!
“If we don’t acknowledge those things, we’re not gonna get there.” SAY IT AGAIN!!! Applause and praise for this man and his tireless efforts to educate America and bring about change. We desperately need it!
Honestly this happened well over 100 years ago . It’s time to stop feeling sorry for our selfs . This doesn’t help any African American . It keeps us stuck in the past .
@@davidvasquez4459 it wasn’t over 100 years ago, it was less than. I mean, these things were still happening in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and even 80’s!
You are so naive.....you have no clue of the dignity of the Murdered....Have you been helpless? Have you believed truth and find out it was a lie? You sound like a " spoiled rich little girl " Let's take a Reality Check.....humans have hate in our hearts....always have...only through fear of the law or choice to follow a peace path keep that hate in check....you know the word well " fear " drives hate.....and You have no clue if any of these people are innocent. I went to the Civil Rights museum and memorial back in January 2020. I fell to my knees. There wasn’t a dry eye in site. It’s a very sacred place. The atmosphere is very solem. You go in and come out an entirely different person. Every school and family should go. It is a powerful statement to the world.
@Tony Lopez Since you're such a historian then you must have researched the fact that up until the late '40s and early '50s the democrats were the conservative party and the repubes were the liberal party. You would also know that a shift started taking place in the '50s, ultimately leading to the parties switching platforms because of the civil rights era. What I suspect, and would put a large amount of money on would be that you never researched any of it and just parrotted some talking points you heard on faux 'news' and act like you know something others don't. Seriously, start using your brain before it's too late.
I know that it was a long time ago but when I saw the postcard of the burned body and they flipped it over and it said " the barbeque we had last night", I was horrified. It's appalling , it brought tears to my eyes, and made me rage at the same time. These are stories that need to be told, because in this country right now these are thoughts and feelings that are still prevalent. As a White man, I understand that I have had more opportunities in life, and have been treated better than other men and women. I understand that I have been privileged simply for being white. I wish there was something I could do to change the past, but there isn't. But I can change the future. This can never be a part of our current situation. As white people, we need to acknowledge and fix our feelings of "superiority". We are all people. humans. we all deserve the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Period.
Discipline and hold your daughters, wives, and nieces accountable. Stop protecting, covering and believing their lies and accusations against black women especially. I have horrible stories. Hope that helps.
I'm a black woman and thank you for your comment. Some races feel if they admit what you admit it about being treated better etc that we are going to want to dominate or hurt you no we respect you even more
When I talk to my daughter about this she said they did learn last year in history class about the young boy that whistled at the store clerk and was murdered along with several other similar instances. She said it was very graphic and horrifying to learn about. I was surprised they brought it up at all ... but pleased that they are starting to correct that lie about the past
That’s why I signed the petition with change.org to have black history taught in all schools because most young white kids don’t know about that part of history what their people did to blacks, native Americans on so on even some young black kids don’t their history as well.
Everybody's talking about schools don't teach true history but we as parents have to do our jobs to teach our children and let them know who they really are. It starts with us. The education system is for economic growth. Personal growth starts with knowledge, knowing who you are!
I agree. So much of what I know about how bad things were back then came from my family. From my Great-Grandmother all the way to my youngest uncle. They never shied away with letting us know how fortunate we are to be where we are but also how the place where we're at isn't nearly as far as where we should be.
Absolutely!!!! My mother, grandmother & great grandmother, uncles, older cousins all, taught us & told of their experiences. I loved listening to my great grandmother especially, tell us about her life. I’m a child of the 60’s and was also old enough to witness our history and remember. The difference between that generation that came after us, is many of them blew it off! They’d say that was back then, things are different now. They think because they can date whoever openly, go wherever, same schools, neighborhoods, etc that it doesn’t exist. Well, in the words of Malcolm X, “the chickens have come home to roost”! Karens & KKKminded folks are everywhere, in all walks of life! The new lynchings are in different, subtle ways. Voter suppression, police, judges and racial profiling….. the list goes on and on! Teach our children at home! I never let or trust the so called establishment to teach mine our full truth. Even mine are seeing the ugly truths coming to fruition!
Well said, Sister. Sahra, please read KJV Genesis 15:13-14/ ISRAEL is us or you a black people. Read the King James Bible version. Jeremiah 8:21; 14:2/ Then read KJV Deuteronomy 28:42-68.
@@candycoatedcyanide3267 Fools will make you a fool . Plans to shutdown Atlantic City ruined. Don't follow large crowds of idiots; how you gonna shut down something Larger than you?
My Great Grandfather was lynched in Mississippi in the early 1960’s. This is such a important part of American history! I feel like every single American no matter the race should make it their business to visit this museum! And you can say what you want but I marvel at the resilience and grace that African Americans have! ❤️
Marcus Burns...so sorry about the lynching of your grandfather...you never got to know him and I will keep you and your family in prayer because time doesn't heal but forgiveness can help a lot. We forgive but we still take a stand and insist that justice will be done!
GOD!! It disgusts me to the point I want to throw up. It makes me wonder if white people back than we’re human at all. I am white, my ancestors didn’t come here from Ireland until the 1940’s but still I feel responsible in some way, and it makes me mad, sad, embarrassed and ashamed that any human could do this to another human. I just DON’T GET IT. Smh I’m sorry to all of those effected by this behavior. As humans we have got to do better!
The reason "they" could do such horrific abuse to black people is because at that time African Americans were not considered fully human. We were considered ONLY three fourths human. Now today, if someone mistreats an animal in any way the outcry is deafening and the perpetrators do real jail time. Ask Micheal Vic!!
@@goalsandcashflows8476 it’s not in their DNA! This behavior is taught and learned. This woman poured out her heart apologizing for the pain this has caused and all you can say is, “It’s in your DNA”??? We all have to do better!

@@oliverhaze4878 OK. Please refer me to the history book that YOU wrote. I would be glad to read it, and give you a review. Meanwhile, have a great day.
There got to be historical writings acute and sensible director that can pull a movie together that correlates the happenings right up to Trump and and his administration to educate those Trump supporters to wake up
Wow that memorial is an incredibly good thought out process and sad project to create. I love how you can read everyone’s horrific ordeal and know what happened. The fact that people even subjected their children to this racism and to watch this horror like hanging someone from a tree is beyond me.
I remembered James Baldwin saying it has created “moral apathy” in the white man. It is time to have these conversations. I will not look away anymore.
@Renee Mechelle The black people have been given reparations over and over for several decades now. They have come in the form of affirmative action, college scholarships for the disadvantaged, welfare, section 8 government housing, food stamps, medicaid, head start preschool programs, cash assistance etc etc etc the list goes on and on. Lyndon Johnson and his administration in the mid 60's either created or enhanced those programs mainly for the disadvantaged black communities. GMAFB. should the white descendants of the Union soldiers who fought to end slavery have to pay reparations? Should white people who came to the US long after the Civil War, in the late 1800's/early 1900's and later have to pay reparations? Should black people who' ve migrated here after the end of slavery and all the way up to recent years, should they be included in reparations? Maybe you should read the book 'Losing The Race: Self Sabotage In Black America' written by John McWhorter, a black professor at the University of California, Berkley. In it, he discusses how all the social programs I've listed above has actually ruined the black communities instead of helping them as they were intended to do.
@@kleeamd8274 haven't you just disproved your own argument by listing all these reparations substitutes as you seem to consider and then admitting that they havent actualky benefited the black community? So in fact, reparations haven't really been paid at all?
And all were Democrats. The Republicans were the ones that died to end slavery and the Democrats were the ones dying to continue it. Not much has changed.
Nancy Stengel The Democractic party was the party of the south until the Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. That’s when the Republican Party pandered to the white south and they switched parties. That’s also how the Democratic Party garnered the support of the black community. You can say Republican President Abraham Lincoln fought for the abolition of slavery and Democrats fought for Jim Crow and ignoring lynching, but that does not reflect the current opinions of the members of the party. I can assure you that there are Republicans who still do not want a black man to marry their white daughter, reflecting the opinions of Democrats of interracial marriage prior to the 1960s.
This man is phenomenal! God raised him up for such a time is this! I have been told to forget it’s in the past. I will never forget the traumas of what black people have gone through and are still going through today! I will not forget those people!
And you wonder why when an injustice happens, or just plain ole mistreatment we holler about Racism. In 2020 they call it the Race Card, like it's a an excuse. 😩🇺🇸
Yes the absolute arrogance of the white man with his feet on the shoulders of that human being like that. I wonder is this a photo of an already hung man with noose around his neck - being displayed like a trophy? Or is it a man about to be hung that they're torturing by having his photo taken?
"This is like a disease, we need to treat it" very well spoken I agree that we cannot pretend these horrors weren't committed. We need to all acknowledge it to even begin to heal from so much heartache. It is heart breaking to think about but to try to forget would only allow it to fester.
Only God can touch hearts and minds to allow us to get over this and do better, just listen to some of Emmitt Till’s mother speakings R.I.P to all who have succumbed to the evil brutality of hatred in the past and now.
For what?...what benefit did slavery bring to our people?...there is a page missing in the history of slavery...RETALIATION...when we retaliate then they can make all the museums they want.
@@maritzadillingham4008 what else do you need to know?400yrs later and you still need more information? War was declared on blk people since the beginning of time...we to busy singing and holding hands...pitty display....there is one thing that violence do accomplish.....CHANGE.

Every American must take in and absorb the reality of our history. It does not matter if we didn’t live then. African Americans now need the living to help heal the wounds they have. May god be with us and help African Americans heal and be safe from the evil In this world.
And as you can see from the comments to your comment nothing will change due to the absolute hatered by some. Everyone screams for change but no one wants it.
john patterson were they lynched for being white tho or were they lynched for Terrible crimes? And only about 1,000 whites were lynched most of them actually committed the crimes they were accused of. If you really think white peoples actually lynched other whites for fun like they did blacks then you’re crazy.
One of the most powerful and important stories I have watched. Hate cannot be killed. But it can be fought to the end. If you see racism, do something about it. If you see discrimination, do something about it. Say something, write something, post something- record it on video for the world to see. Do it for the ones who could not speak for themselves because they were not allowed to. Do it for the ones who needed someone to help them back then when no one gave a damn about them. Their lives are as important today as it was back then. DO NOT forget them. Say their name.
Watching this makes me sad, can't understand how this was allowed...what gave the white people the right to take a life in such a cruel way? I don't blame them for all the protesting being done through the world.
I regret my ways back in the 90's I never harmed anyone but I was a member it took a few years to change but I did . And now I think I can redeem myself by educating kids how hate is so wrong . And we must end racism
I love Bryan . He’s been doing the work since he was practicing law. Thank you for not letting the system corrupt your vision or discourage you from your purpose .
Yep!!! Give it to us in a very practical way ... placing it before our eyes in an uncomplicated yet compelling way!!! That man has heart. What an amazing person.
I don't even imagine how taugh was the life for our ancestors back that time. It's even more sad that it still happens as Light racism. Iam From Mozambique- Africa
And this rapper name Akon from Senegal, Africa has the nerve to tell Blacks in America to forgot about slavery. But we can't, the brutality of police killing Blacks, their lack of punishment ensures slavery is still intact.
This 60 minutes is from 2018!!! I’ve never heard of this place in Alabama. I have heard about lynchings but I never knew the whole truth. This was a horrific thing to do!!!!and children took part in this evil practice, some are now the parents and grandparents of people still alive today(these people are now our teachers, doctors, lawyers, judges, politicians, neighbors, voters, etc.) This is why the racism is rampant.....it’s still in the blood. America did not know their history thus they continue to repeat it, and by “know” I mean acknowledge with an understanding of how the things done to Blacks in America were evil and the long term effects on everyone. It’s like the husband who cheats on his wife and she knows it and in order for them to repair their marriage certain steps must be taken but husband says yes I know what I did but I don’t wanna talk about..”you need to get over it so we can move on”. Dang!! After I cried now I’m mad!
As an outsider… I am not black, I am not American either. I am a Filipino, my ancestors may have experienced slavery, but I didn’t. Learning how Black Americans had been brutally enslaved made me think how may my ancestors had suffered under the slavery of the Spaniards. The more I learn about these things… especially lynching of the Black People in America, the more you get it… You get it that people are not innately good. You learn to be good, fair, respectful and responsible human being and you cannot learn without teachings, and you cannot teach goodness without recognizing what is evil. Human rights is not relative, it is absolute and universal.
That is beyond hurt in my heart, in litterly crying in my home right now and I didn't even know these people but they were me . LORD HAVE MERCY . I PRAY THAT God protect our people even the more.
Thank You Brian and Ophrah, This is cathartic something I had no idea was binding me. I knew about lynching but the fact that this is not well understood today made me feel that Indigenous Africa Americans were crying wolf a voice in the wilderness. This shows the world how this political and justice system is designed. Now the faces of all those connected with these murders should hang in a museum. The children should know who is behind the crime because minds will be affected in those families.
African Americans we are very strong people but as far as myself forgiving a white person what they did to African Americans what their ancestors did to African-American I don't think I could forgive them Emmett Till's mom was a very strong beautiful woman
In light of what's been happening right now, this is the most poignant video l've seen. It saddens me to the core as people march on the streets shouting Black Lives Matter because it's the history of underlying brutality and lack of respect and humanity for the gains of few that is erupting. If for generations, the colored people were kept oppressed, America must realize that this is what has led America to fall behind in every level. I've lived in Europe and Asia. They respect their citizens. In America, some people are kept down for the benefit of the few, systematically for political and economic reasons. Australia is similar in how they treated the indigenous people. This behavior leads to the destruction eventually of everything, including nature because there is a lack of respect for God's creation.
Continue to talk to your friends, family and associates about it and the need for reconciliation. You won't get everyone to agree but if you are able to influence at least one then that is good enough... one is enough Thank you for being part of the change
A personal interview will be given to each person at the day of their death, by our Lord Jesus Christ. Those who lynch will desire the rocks to hide them from God.
A victim doesn't have to hang from a tree to be the victim of a lynching. The last US government observed "official" lynching in the US was in 1981. There have been far more since; They just aren't recorded as "official" lynchings. Edit: I mistakenly put "1983" when, in fact, it was 1981. I have made a reply that explains why I have quotes around the word official.
&&&& the fact 100 men dragged west Johnson and beat him viciously is just mind blowing .. i will never understand how those 100 men went home nnn ate and went to bed that night .... nnn its very heartbreaking that a photo of him hanging from a tree is THE ONLY PHOTO his family has of him is very saddened . . Black men stay away from white women . .🤷💔🙏💯
THIS IS AMERICA! Our Government allowed, protected and enforced these actions. Ya'll better keep voting or this will be a full circle of history that'll be a huge slap in the face of those who died and fought before us.
My Uncle (my dads baby brother) when just 14 was arrested and lynched and his body never surfaced. A white woman tried to get him to come into her home but he refused so she cried rape to punish him for refusing her. His grave is thought to be the Bogalusa River. Pearl River Mississippi
The Jews stories were told the holocaust and they continue to be told and people feel empathy for those who suffered from that Cruelty! The Blacks have a right to let the stories be told!!
Why do u think Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson are so eager to get there first ?! So they could leave the rest of us behind to sulk in the twisted history their ancestors created !!
You can’t forget about it, because the trauma has lingering affects for generations, and the systemic part of history so deeply ingrained in our systems now, that it’s just like being lynched over and over again in the same way, without justice and with on lookers making excuses.
A great work! Young man, Mr. Stevenson, you have and our doing! And also all the people, that have and are helping with these projects, of a history we cannot forget about. So proud of you, all. Thanks!
I agree that this needs to be talked about. Our schools system talks NOTHING about what black people went through. Also we need to be taught about what happened to the native americans, the Japanese and give due credit to other minorities that help build america.
