I have the 2018 iPad Pro and no reason to upgrade. It's super fast, scrolling is smooth as butter... I am not bothered about an OLED display or better cameras.
@@faberge4818 ABSOLUTELY iPad Air it’s newer and better plus it’ll get at least 5 more years of updates it’s faster and overall a better bang for your buck but if u could get the newer iPad Air 6 that would be even better but yea no the M1 chip is already insane enough The iPad pro 2018 is absolutely not worth BUYING in 2024 if u already have it it’s okay but buying it now is such a waste especially if u can get the air 5 hell even the 10th generation is better
I agree my 2018 iPad Pro is great. I’ve used it as a computer for 3 years and after that, it’s been my go to for note-taking and media consumption. Over the years the battery has degraded but the iPadOS 17.4.1 update has nerfed the battery. It dies randomly regardless of the battery percentage and according to forums it’s not only me. I don’t want to get a new battery and the same thing happens because of the software update. That’s why I am considering upgrading
Agreed my air 3 can do almost everything the latest version can at a decent speed. 😂 they finally added a function key to the Magic Keyboard meanwhile ive been using the Logitech keyboard with my air 3 since release
as an M2 iPad Pro user. do not upgrade it's the EXACT same experience and i'm not even exaggerating, iPadOS makes sure to make the M chip as Obsolete as possible.
I use both, 2018 and m2, for working like illustrations not so much different, but for gaming m2 is definitely a beast, every game in appstore will be in highest setting
I'm watching this on my 2018 iPad Pro, and it still works wonderfully. The multi-tasking is meh, but it would also be meh if I spent thousands on a 2024 iPad. Love your accent!
I think I'm getting served up a lot of these older videos because I'm debating this, and while the 2018 Pro does about 95% of the things I want it to, I'm thinking about upgrading because I cheaped out on my 2018 Pro (256Gb WiFi) and am considering jumping to the M4 because I want to increase my storage capacity and get a cell-phone modem to go with it. And I think it speaks to Apple's engineering that the machine is so solid that it's still my daily driver tablet six years out. It's probably the longest I've held onto any single portable device, including laptops. Also, and I can't deny it, the OLED screen is gorgeous, and as someone who appreciates OLEDs for media consumption (and games), I also consider the upgrade worth investigating even though I am otherwise happy with the 2018's screen. Lastly, now that the 2024 has an upgraded screen on both models, I'm also debating between the 11 and the 13. I very much appreciate the extra screen space for media consumption but it's hard to whip out on airplanes, although I wonder if that has more to do with the Smart Keyboard than the tablet itself...
I have a 2020 iPad Pro 11" (2nd gen) for 2 years now. My question is, should I switch to the iPad Air M2 because the Apple Intelligent feature won’t be supported on my iPad? How big and good is this apple intelligent! Honestly that’s the only reason I’m considering
The problem is that all the arguments you are making apply to an M1 Macbook as well. Why upgrade if you are doing basic things. I have a 2020 iPad Pro 11” and one major issue is it’s not powerful enough to run Final Cut Pro so I’m stuck on Luma Fusiion.
Unless Apple ups it’s game regarding iPadOS there’s still no decisive motive to invest in such a expensive device plus accessories. If you can find a decently priced M1 or M2 iPad Pro, then go with that.
i’m a slut for display technology, so OLED is huge motivator. Also, my M1 iPad Pro ran those PS4/console games pretty well, so I’m kind of excited to see how the M4 will run those. also, I can’t tell you how many times my thumb was covering Face ID because I predominately use my iPad in the landscape orientation. also i will switch to my iphone or mac for facetime even if i’m using my ipad because i hate the off center camera. so as dumb as it sounds, I’m pretty excited for Face ID and the front cam to be moving to the landscape orientation. ever since the M1 and A17 Pro, Apple Silicon has had a lot of potential for gaming. I hope with every generation that more AAA developers choose to release on Apple Silicon, the M4 really increases that incentive. the addition of a full function row and escape key really lends to the idea that iPadOS 18 is gonna lean more into macOS capabilities
I hate how all reviews point to people using it like a laptop. I ordered the M4 13 inch. But I don’t currently own an iPad since I’ve been waiting for OLED. I too am a sucker for good displays.
As am i, but let me ask you one question. Can you change the contrast? Because that is the thing that completely through me with the M4 versus my 2018 m2. Never mind that they benchmarked almost identically! But the M4 does not give me any detail in the shadows. So good luck catching anything if you're watching something like game of thrones - you can't see it. Do you have velvety block? Absolutely - but you have no way to change it
I'm fine with my IPad pro 2018. I think that this will work for other 4 or 5 years more. I hope that by then apple deliver something that worth the upgrade.
I am upgrading from this state. I need more RAM basically. And it will be nice to have an external monitor for multitasking. Other than that I would never upgrade.
If you have the IPad Pro 2018 11 or 13 inch with 1TB it has 6 gb of ram. Mine runs perfectly smooth still also on games with the highest settings on *although some few games and apps might exclude this ipad since it’s not a M chip)…
Thanks for your video! Trying to avoid consumerism. It helped to chill. I also own a Pro 2018. Thinking about changing its battery at Apple. Any thoughts?
but I swear I really love how you think about the support of this iPad, everyone is saying 1-2 years left of software support, but then you say it has 4-5 possiblely which I love that someone actually thinks of the raw performance and comparing it to the other models and what their power is, very good review.
The iPad Pro 2018 will get iPadOS 18 (to be released this year) but will probably NOT get next year's version of the OS. RuggsTech is right in that Apple wants people to continue upgrading, and preventing devices from getting updates is one of the ways they do that. Sure the device will still run next year, but eventually apps will start requiring a version of the OS that the 2018 iPad Pro can't get. I'll keep mine until that happens.
