Maserati is a gentleman’s car NOT the sport car regardless of what Maserati claims for marketing purposes. It takes a different kind of mindset to understand it. BMW 5 may have more modern interior but Maserati is about classy and elegant design. If they want to push modern, it would be a Ferrari kind of interior against whom, let’s be honest, no other car stand a chance against in any way. Italians does it best. So stop comparing Maserati to other, cheaper brands. Get your Nissan GTR if you’re so much in toy interiors and 0-60 time and shut up.
True I was once into Maserati bashing and then I tried sat in one and I'm in love the handcrafted seats just shits on the mass produced crap that both 5 series and E class have. It felt like I'm sitting at home and then some made you feel like a millon buck inside. The interior have the right amount of sporty and luxury. Take the many quotes from Jeremy Clarkson when he reviews Alfa Romeo 166 and same quotes applied to this car.
Exactly. The haters keep talking about those couple of switches shared with FCA group... Like it was something so important. Like if BMW, AUDI, Mercedes had better switches or didn't share any part when they actually do (I can tell for personal ownership experience with all these makes). The haters also like to stress the point that the engine block is made by Chrysler in Kokomo, Indiana. But it is only "loosely based" on the V6 Pentastar, highly tuned and modified under Ferrari specification. And that factory was actually established on purpose for Maserati. And everything else is made in Italy in the factories near Turin and Modena. Is not even comparable with a Chrysler or a Dodge, and only who owns it can judge it. 99% Maserati-Ferrari vehicle, full of personality and wonderful style.
Fred Smith that’s incorrect. The engine is based on the Pentastar Chrysler block and assembled by Ferrari. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio’s engine on the other hand is an actual Ferrari engine made by Ferrari. The block is cast and machined to Ferrari’s specs by Chrysler. It is specifically made for high production numbers unlike the Quadrifoglio’s and can not withstand high hp per liter. It technically is a Chrysler unit, therefore, you are incorrect with your statement. Please do a little bit of research before you try and correct someone.
Jordan Banko. You are the one being incorrect. Have you seen the people at the Ferrari factory in Modena working on this engine? Obviously not, as more than likely you don't even have a passport. I have seen them and lived closed to Modena, Italy for many years. So shut up. My earlier comment states the exact information, if you are able to read it instead of being a hater and correct other people like a "know it all". If the block is made in the US under strict Ferrari specifications, in a line of the factory purposely created for Maserati, it doesn't make it "technically a Chrysler unit" as you wrote. Especially because the block is only "loosely based" on the V6 Pentastar, highly tuned and modified under Ferrari specification. The block is than shipped to Ferrari in Italy and it is finished by hands in all its other components. Everything else of the car is made in Italy in the factories near Turin. Is not even comparable with a Chrysler or a Dodge. And, BTW, I also own what you celebrated so highly, the Alfa Giulia QV, so I am not biased like you. I love both vehicles, they are much different. The Alfa is more agile and has quicker steering and jerky transmission. Obviously quicker because it's much smaller and lighter. The Maserati is a 4 door GT cruiser, more comfortable for a long journey and with a smoother engine power delivery.
Carlo I am correct. Chrysler makes the block and Ferrari assembles it with their parts. The Alpha has a true Ferrari engine as the block is built by Ferrari and is somewhat shared with the California and Portofino. That is the difference. The Alpha engine is made to push even more power where the Maserati is not. That is another characteristic that makes it less of a true F engine. Also, I do have a Passport. That's weird that you assume I don't as you know nothing about me. You don't have to be an ass.
The fact that you keep horribly spelling ALPHA, when everyone knows that it is actually ALFA Romeo, says everything about your lack of knowledge about this topic. I won't keep arguing over this. I already stated the FACTS. Who cares if just the block is made in the US, if it is under Ferrari specifications, and everything else is made in Italy by Ferrari and Maserati in their factories? Nowadays, every other sport luxury car brand, even the most exotic like Lamborghini and Bentley, share parts from their group and part of them are outsourced and made elsewhere! Yours are just another Maserati hater excuses.
Well, there’s a reason why they have depreciated so much, for starters they are rare cars, you don’t see a lot of Maseratis on the road, also if you ever need work done on it expect to pay Ferrari prices.
Yep, found out after the video was filmed. Mentioned in the written review. carbuzz.com/reviews/2018-maserati-ghibli-test-drive-review-fresh-face-with-the-heart-of-an-angel
The issue about parts sharing is redundant. The point is the switches feel cheap no matter what car they're in.Thats the point. Get into an Audi,5 series etc and feel the switchgear.Worlds apart.Even the switches in an E class and C class aren't amazing.
I am 55 yo and all my life I drive BMW serie 5. The new one is comming out next {2021} year and I have a big dilemma in my mind... I may consider to try Ghibli this time. The BMW is more reliable and overall the best choice in this segment but Maserati is a must own at least ones in a lifetime :)
I’m a 50 yo who has also mainly owned BMWs. I just got a Ghibli SQ4 two months ago and I absolutely love it. It’s a true driving experience. It’s the perfect balance of elegance and sport. If you are heavily into tech and the newer displays of the Germans, it may not be for you though. I actually like the simplistic nature of the interior myself, with the traditional tachometer etc. If you get a 2017 to current, the newer infotainment system has Apple CarPlay and has all of the tech I need or want, without making it overly complicated. The leather is exquisite and the exhaust note is intoxicating. I literally go for drives now just to shift and listen to it lol. I never felt this was in my BMW. I felt comfortably numb in them which is nice in its own way. The Ghibli is a drivers car, but it can’t compete with the bells and whistles the Germans offer. All are good options. I would highly suggest you drive one for a full weekend, even if you have to rent one. I would also highly recommend the SQ4 because it’s worth it.
@@jaquevius Wow I could not explain this better if I tried. I went from a BMW 3 series to an Alfa Romeo Guilia and that's exactly how I felt. The BMW had newer tech and felt more refined, with (slightly) nicer interior material use, UI interface, and the digital gauge screen to name some examples. However, it never excited me in the way the Alfa did. I never find myself just looking at it the way I do my Alfa. I always enjoyed driving my BMW, but I go out of my way to drive my Alfa. I never turned off my radio in the BMW to just listen to the exhaust note, I do it all the time in my Alfa. In some ways I felt like my 3 series was designed by a computer but the Guilia was designed by an artist. There is a personality to these Italian cars that really make them special.
@@emperormouse5487 Thanks. It's hard to explain, but until you have driven one for an extended time, you really can't describe it either. By nature, I am budget focused, and have never understood why people spend extra money on cars...I truly get it now, as the sound of this car is amazing. I actually go for drives and don't mind errands lol.
They should get a hybrid engine for the ultimate fuel economy (the crisis happening now) and the acceleration, handling, and more (it has near-instant lift-off)
1) The Porsche 911 has a very outdated design. I know that's the appeal of the car, but there is a way of modernizing and revamping the design without sacrificing that iconic look. Rolls Royce and Bentley have been doing it for decades. Porsche can too. 2) The Porsche 911 costs as much AMG CLS Mercedes but has only 2 doors, is half a second slower 0-60, and is at least 2 generations behind in tech.
I’m not gonna lie I’m not paying 80 grand for the that car. That’s why I chose the Alfa Romeo Giulia. If the Giulia never came out I would have gotten a used sq4 40 grand
I have have both the SQ4 and the Giulia. They are very different, meant for different target market, each of them have its pros and cons and I love them both!
They are very different cars, but I can see why you chose the Giulia (in fact, I have one too). But my lease is up and I've been looking at getting a 2019 Ghibli with under 20K miles. It's actually slightly cheaper than a new Guilia, but also slightly faster, has better interior material use, and a much better sounding engine.
Fun Fact: In europe you can opt. for "US sized cupholders". In that case they come without a lid since they are bigger then the opening. Anyway nice review!
You say one thing and then you contradict what you say right after it it's like the car sucks but it's really good but the car sucks make up your mind either it's good or it's not you can't go down the middle all the time
@@SuperLukiano I've owned FCA products and had no issues. Just buy a loaded top trim Chrysler 300 and save yourself $60,000 if you're a fan of Chrysler switchgear.
I am a Chrysler 300 fan but I'm not in Chrysler brand or anything if that's what you mean. And I don't want to save money, not my primary goal when buying cars. If you're in a Maserati range of earnings it means that 60K won't change your life in any way but the lifestyle and the overal feel in Maserati definatly will. However, if you scraped off together 100K to buy a car then Maserati isn't for you. Get yourself a 20K car and invest the rest of it in business to get there. Maserati is a big buck game. Not that I'm there yet but I get it anyway. @@JulezWinnfield
Ghibli is designed by Maserati and built in Modena Italy by Ferrari. Ghibli Maserati is a 6 cycl car with Ferrari F160 (Google it) built engine 425 hp with a speed 0-60 4.7 sec. That can go to 180 mph.......The window switch 2518200110 was a part of Daimler/Chrysler from (1998-2007) $65- $144dollars. The switch is in the Mercedes ML350, ML450, ML550 for example and also in the Mercedes-Benz ML320, ML63, AMG and also again, still used in today’s Chrysler/fiat cars. So, the Maserati Window Switch is the same as the Mercedes Benz part that was passed on to Chrysler/Fiat cars. ..........so who “really owns” the window switch? Modern Maserati are built in Ferrari plant. So, a Ferrari window switch is $450 dollars before a dealer get a chance to working on it. So give me the FCA switch any day and the can find one window switch of a Dodge Dart in 20 years from now.😉 Instead of having the dealer keeping the car for 60 days because they can not find a switch anywhere on planet Earth. The car roars from a Ferrari built engine. * Even the oil filter is by Ferrari Ghibli Transmission shift quality. The 8HP transmission from German supplier ZF is quick enough to serve sports cars and graceful enough for large luxury sedans, and it combines those elements of speed and smoothness whether it’s installed in an Aston Martin, a Rolls-Royce, or a Jeep. The entertainment monitor/system is by Chrysler installed by Ferrari and one of the best in the industry.
The haters keep talking about those couple of switches shared with FCA group... Like it was something so important. Did this guy just say cloth? Omg if u gonna review a car at least do your homework. They are silk inserts which is called the zegna package. Also he seems to be spewing alot of the same rhetoric that other car reviewers are spewing( like that kia reference ) and when he was showing the buttons on the door and in the front he had the camera record from the rear not giving the viewer any chance to see what the hell he was talking about. This review could have done better.
Yeah. Just some clueless dweeb who couldn’t be bothered to do any actual research. Instead just thought he’d regurgitate the same nonsense he heard while he was trolling other reviewers
