In this video I show my experience replacing the 2018 Mazda 3 Rear Brake Rotors. I accidentally let the pads wear out and therefore ended up with rusted rotors. After replacing the rear pads I wanted to see if regular use of the pads might wear off the rotor rust, but after a couple weeks effort it became clear that this would never happen, so I ended up at Autozone to buy some replacement rotors (roughly $60.00 a piece).
My vehicle had about 27,000 miles on it at the time of the rotor replacement.
Note: I don't show how to enter rear brake maintenance mode in this video, as I showed it my last video ("Replace Rear Brake Pads - 2018 Mazda 3...").
The written version is as follows (undoing this sequence is shown in the video):
1. Turn on ignition via 2 quick successive start button presses (for manual transmission don't push the clutch).
2. Push and hold the gas pedal to the floor, continue holding the gas pedal while then pushing down on the electronic parking brake.
3. Press the start button/ignition one more time to turn off the car.
4. Wait 2 seconds and then quickly turn the ignition back on (by again quickly pressing the start button twice).
When complete you should hear the rear parking brake mechanism contracting and you should see a warning light with a ((P)) on the dash.
Now you can let go of the gas pedal and the parking brake, and turn off the car. You are ready to perform maintenance on the rear brake system (don't forget to secure the vehicle against rolling.
