no joke, it felt like visitors were silencing the crowd when NU went up 17-0 lol. Ryan Field is barely bigger than some of the high school fields in the Chicago area lol
All of the bullshit calls have the result of keeping the game close / in the favor of the team that is more likely to lose at the time the call was made. I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I'm just pointing out the evidence. The evidence suggests that the game of college football is more likely rigged by referees who are paid to keep the game close by overlooking calls that go against the team who is currently more likely to lose, and calling nonsense penalties against the team that is most likely to win. Fact. Northwestern hadn't scored since the beginning of the game. The comeback was all but inevitable. Michigan was out-gaining Northwestern a million to one, so the refs prolonged the inevitable so the game would be close.
I’m going through the whole season again rn and watching this brought back memories of that holding call... I was shaking I was so pissed when they made the call.
Another note about the refs. Happy to see other concerned... How about the abundantly clear holds on their offensive line not getting called?? Over and OVER again. You’re telling me we just lived in the backfield for the better part of that game and they didn’t hold us ONE TIME?? Ridiculous. Winovich was an animal and that was while being held nearly every play. Of course holding was called on us! Call it BOTH WAYS. Rant over lol.
As an Irish fan I’m a little nervous for this Saturday’s matchup with the Wildcats. UM almost lost to these guys and ND and UM are very similar teams this year. Go Irish and thank you to UM for this game tape
NW is becoming the Syracuse to Clemson. Coach Fitzgerald gets his players up for this game. But the one thing that is very worrisome is our safety covering the slot receiver. They absolutely cannot cover a slant and that is exactly what both PSU and OSU run extremely well as you seen KJ Hamler run against OSU and took it to the house. I am starting to wonder if we bring Ambry Thomas in as the slot corner and take Metellus out. I am surprised how bad Kinnel is playing as well, he is struggling and has had zero impact in any game this year. However I am very impressed with the OL. They picked up multiple TE stunts throughout the course of this game. A major improvement and something to look forward to going forward, very impressed. But I still argue that the offense is too stagnant since Jedd Fish left and Pep took over, still unimpressed with Pep to this point as the receiver routes take way too long to develop and they need to seriously scrap the WR screen as it nets 1-2 yards every time we run it.
Michigan fans hate this win, but, especially after a second watch: give NW some credit. On those scoring drives, Thorson was on fire and the receivers caught EVERYTHING near them.
Can someone put together a video of all of Michigan's 1st and 10 plays? I swear it was tailback up the middle 98% of the time. Ridiculous play calling, JIM!
Just look at the official breakdown of holding calls per play for defenses! As aggressive as our defense has been we get one holding call per 180 plays (just during the Harbaugh era, but the same rate including the Hoke era) versus the avg in the big ten is right about one holding call per every 95 plays! We get about half the holding calls with the most aggressive defensive play in the conference by far. In turn, we get twice the pi calls with aggressive db play as the rest of the conference.
Why is it that Clemson gets a pass for nearly losing to Syracuse(who always plays them tough(beating them last year)), but this game is a referendum on Harbaugh and the mighty men of the maize and blue. Just a thought
Because one has a National Championship (now 2) on his resume and the other one doesn't. It's that simple. Once you climb the mountain, you are given the benefit of the doubt. But until that happens, a coach will not receive the benefit of the doubt. I'm old enough to remember when Clemsoning was a thing and Swinney was considered a clown. How times have changed... Winning it all changes the narrative. Winning it all two or more times gives someone teflon.
Wolverine Devotee Another screw job on Harbaugh by the refs. 2016 the facemask penalty on McCray that put Iowa in FG range, but if Harbaugh plays aggressively and gets a first down the game is over. OSU Barrett sneak screw job in 2016 screwed UM out of a playoff spot, but tackle Curtis Samual in the backfield for a ten or five yard loss in the backfield and they settle for a field goal and who knows...Check out "Michigan Podcast: Something is not right from last year if you haven't seen it. If you have I think he's spot on. Seriously I hope UM keeps on winning and wins big games. That is the only cure.
Yes Michigan has way to many real penalties, but you have to admit that some penalties are a bit screwy shall we say, be more disciplined too and that doesn't happen.
This is the game when you still knew something was wrong with Michigan's offense, if the Notre Dame game wasn't enough for you. Michigan missed Jedd Fisch something fierce.
It's not big ten refs, it's against michigan, every time. Ever since Michigan state complained that Harbaugh and Michigan was getting away with stuff that other teams got away with, the refs cracked down. Also, Harbaugh going berserk on the refs didn't exactly help improve their relationship.
I think Harbaugh pissed somebody off and the word is in to Fuck Michigan !!! These refs have been ridiculous against Michigan since he's been here. Watch the Wisconsin game last year and Ohio state before that it's even the Nebraska game last week ...Somethings not right...I 've been saying it for 4yrs now !!!!!!!!
''that's why they pay me the big bucks!!'' -Jim Harbaugh declaring himself ''Big Game Jim'' after the his ''signature'' win over 24 point underdog Northwestern
Michigan fans are notorious...blaming the refs for losing them games, but THAT call may be the worst call I've ever seen. I'm a Notre Dame fan, that's how bad the call was. Can't stand Michigan...but you got fucked on that one.
At 13:33 that pass was got nico. If he caught that it could have been a 1st down or td. But his big ass 6'5" frame wussed out when he saw that safety. #soft
Those refs did their jobs so well... they made sure the game stayed close until the end. Congratulations, refs. Football is rigged. That "phantom" holding call ended Michigan's drive, and kept the game close. This sport is not fair whatsoever. It's stupid and completely ruined by greed.
The comparative team stats say Michigan dominated. The penalty differential was egregiously disparate. Those are the facts. Conclude from them what you want.
Michigan fans complaining about 10 yards on a holding call are babies. Babies. 1-2 NW should never have kept it nearly this close. As long as they're consistent, I dont really care if the refs have a tight whistle. if Michigan needs to come back from 17 to beat NW it's going to be a long conference season for michigan.
It killed the drive and was a terrible call. If you look certain teams just struggle with certain teams they shouldn't. Nw is ours. Clemson has the cuse. Osu has Purdue and iu. Nw turned right around and beat msu. The big ten as a whole is down
I bet you all the money in the world if you have scored 13 unanswered, are mounting a comback, and a holding call when there was no holding that kills your drive and keeps your team losing, you would understand
